No. You're gonna get some loops and some 5 second animations from commission/follow farmers and that's it.
The good programs for animation already exist.
Some of the "game changing" features people are losing their minds about are a bit comical (like dragging layers around and capturing that as movement keyframes in real time, with is something pretty trivial and not particularly useful that other software could already do decades ago), but I guess the real biggie is how cheap it will be (if you ignore the overpriced exclusive hardware it will run on) considering the drawing and painting tools will surpass even TV Paint if the implication of the Procreate engine carrying over is fulfilled.
Well what makes Procreate work and appeal to artists is the drawing and painting engine, which hinges on the pen/touch functionality of the iPad. Still, though the Procreate company is cultivating a good relationship with the community and they may not pull a picrel, locking your entire ability to perform your work on a specific hardware brand may not be the best idea.
I will never pay a single cent for anything made by Apple but ngl I've envied the exclusivity of ProCreate for years, and this one does look great too. Oh well.
You could call Blender "better" because it does a shitload more different things that this one will do, but it's arguable regarding the specific things this soft is made for; and specifically in Procreate's selling point of drawing functionality Blender is not even in the same ballpark.
I'm not an Apple guy so I can't and won't ever use this, but I acknowledge that it's looking like a fantastic product for the specific use it's designed for. Also, they're doing a great job in shilling it; they got a legion of prime influencers months ago to push the product after the surprise reveal. Here's Aaron Blaise's short made with it for example:

many studios aren't that open to using software that isn't already industry standard. but it seems like it will help hobby animators
A take I've seen is that it will "launch studios", specially indies, because of the token price. Still there's the cost of the hardware of course.
>launch professional studios
>only available on a mobile device
sure.
they could have at the very least ported it to mac os. it's easy as hell nowadays.

that could also happen
No subscription and only 20 bucks, based i fucking hate subscriptions, it might not be the most professional app but it looks good enough for me

i'll definitely use it. can't wait to use it for my personal projects, including fan animations 🙂
>Procreate Dreams
what a fucking name
They know their audience.
that limited timeline shows how bad this is for any serious project
Limited how?
Blender is the better software, they just need a mobile version.

>affordable non subscription based animation software
>need a $500+ tablet to use it
the ipad is actually consider a good deal for art, since it's as capable as high end wacom tablets, but you don't need a computer to use it
