I have always loved other people, even through my teen years. To call this era a time of greater empathy is not the truth. The average person now has a head swimming with ideologies to justify the devaluing of others. It is a sick time, certainly no better than others

This. Even if cinema wasn't dying (which it is), it couldn't even hope to begin to recreate the anticipation for Episode I. There was nothing like it in history. Batman '89 and Jurassic Park were probably the biggest before that, and they didn't even come close to the excitement Star Wars generated. It will never happen again.
