If the movie had ended with the diner scene and Riddler having "beaten" the bat it would be a 10/10. The entire 3rd act disaster part brings it down to a 7/10 at best.

unironically, yes. the first time I saw this I thought it sucked. then I randomly watched it again without an agenda and got sucked into its hypnotic pacing and sound design. i think the filmmaker managed to swing above his weight. good cinematography, too. asmr vibes here.

I found it pretty forgettable and uninteresting. I just don't know, the Riddler is just not an interesting villain to me, and I don't particularly like how he's depicted in this movie.
I don't really like how janky Batman is either. I understand what they were going for but I still don't like it. Just the general aesthetics of Gotham are OK but it's still quite generic.
The things I liked are Batman being a detective and doing some detective work, and the fight scenes in general are pretty great. Otherwise I just don't like the story or Catwoman.

Burton movies are still better IMO. Burton understood that in order for Batman to exist Gotham needed to be timeless city that embodied corruption and madness. He understood that maintaining the suspension of disbelief required to embrace and incorporate the exaggeration and style of comic books.
Reeves take is still more than respectable though as it embraces the traits of neo noir and makes it genre piece. He clearly takes after some plot elements of popular stories like Hush, year one and some fragments of the long Halloween and to his credit he masterfully plays with stylized compositions and illumination. The way i see it his intention seems to be to make a version purely through elements specific to the cinematographic language. It´s a good take but it doesn´t leave much room for some of the most ludicrous elements of Batman.
Nolan version suffered of a similar problem. It was just too grounded and too realistic for an immortal Ra's al ghul or villains like the Penguin or the like. Reeves version counts with the freedom of genre but i´m not sure those kind of elements would fit.
