I've already seen 3 videos in my Youtube feed claiming
>Johnny depp one good actually
so I guess that's the new psyop of the month, last month was
>Star Wars Prequels good
what kid has watched the pure imagination scene of this movie and not daydreamed about being there in the candy forest.
meanwhile the remake is memorable for having a lead who looks and sounds like he shouldnt ever be allowed around children
im glad other people are noticing this phenomenon
The candy forest in 71 was plastic lawn decoration garbage and the chocolate river looked like sewage, 71's set design was god awful.
This looks like a prison!
Reminder that any and all wonka shilling is done intentionally by marketers to stealthily promote the newer even shittier wonka movie coming out. Similar to Star Wars, they're trying to convince people that new=kind of good actually, otherwise people are too set in their opinions. But they're all sheep anyways, so you just have to prod them enough and their opinion changes.
The Star Wars sequels were all OT nostalgia though, they didn't pivot to prequel nostalgia until they failed horribly and started giving Filoni more control. Prequel nostalgia simply comes from the fact that the kids who grew up watching the Prequels are in their 30s now, the perfect age for self aware memes and "hot take" video essays.
It is suspicious that everything hits at once, though. It could be a shilling campaign but it's also possible we're just more subliminally influenced than we think. Maybe some random meme made the rounds on Instagram that awakened some childhood memories in people, then they googled something about the movie or posted a comment or made a new meme, then the algorithm caught them and fed them more and more until eventually one or two decided to make a video essay.
Place your bets everybody. Which terrible movie is suddenly going to become a classic this year?
My money's on either M. Night Shyamalan's Last Airbender or Dragonball Evolution.
Crystal Skull is already confirmed KINO, kek
My guess is SW Holiday Special.
Gen Z is all about finding things that were unanimously panned because of how awful they were and saying they were "actually good."
>Willy Wonka
by Dahl
Didn't he write the screenplay?
allegedly some executive meddling allegedly happened allegedly
the book is fricking stupid. veruca salt being taken by squirrels is way lamer than what we got. the whole backstory of wonka and the oompa loompas, who cares? leave it a mystery, or explain it briefly.
Wonka
>beloved classic
Charlie
>instantly forgotten slop
Depps performance was like Jim Carrey impersonating Michael Jackson
wonka had funny cutaway scenes, charlie had hack burton ruining everything
I remember some critics at the time saying Depp’s portrayal of Wonka was very feminine so I’m surprised it’s not on transgender radars for him being some sort of non binary or whatever? And scenes like Wonka reuniting with his strict dentist father were very cringe, felt like some coming out of the closet dramedy. Wtf was Burton thinking with this?
elfman influence
Wait is Danny Elfman gay or trans? I thought he was straight albeit a weird nerd type guy?
He's straight as far as I know
there's really no sense of wonder or adventure with Burton's version.
>Chewing gum is very gross chewing gum I hate the most
This always bothered me, the loompas make fun of violet for chewing gum but they’re the ones making it like what the frick. If chewing gum is bad don’t fricking make gum then morons
imagine telling anyone but your close lover that, let alone Gene fricking Wilder at an autograph signing
theres a way to politely chew gum. "all of the time" isnt it.
>SHE EXPLODED
For the same reason the shining is better than the book. The director had a great stylistic vision and pursued it.
accurate to the book
You mean apart from the half hour they spend with Wonka's childhood?
How did the bad guy who was actually the good guy from the original find Charlie so fast after Charlie won?
The Golden Tickets had rfid tags in them.
my sister starting saying this and I know for a fact she’s watched neither. is it some youtube thing
DON’T TOUCH THAT SQUIRREL’S NUTS,
How do I know these are the Squirrel's nuts?
>SHE'S SWELLING UP
>Wonka ducks for cover
So Wonka is kind of a bastard for firing all his employees suddenly just because of his SUPER DUPER SECRET candy.
It is not my responsibility to like what the author likes, not hate what the author hates.
>dahl's estate profiting off an ip made by someone else
>loved it
didnt ask
I liked Burton's movie quite a lot, granted I was 4 when it came out. Even on a rewatch I still enjoy the music and style of it. I'm glad there IS an adaptation that actually has things taken from the book.
I always liked Charlie more. It's soul af and infinitely quotable.
by audiences, seen as a terrible remake
lol, frick off
FRICK RONALD DAHL FRICK YOU homosexual
I love Depp's Vietnam flashbacks. Both movies are good, but I think the praise for the first one mostly comes down to Gene Wilder.
It does have a cuter Veruca, too.
Dahl liked the remake better because it was clearly not as good as his book whereas the original was despite taking more liberties. Artists have insane fricked up reasons behind what they say they like and don't like that would seem neurotic to the average person.
I thought the audience generally liked Burton Charlie?
