Cigarette commercials still legally aired in some countries, even after they were banned in the US, but then they eventually got banned as well

      >Cigarette commercials still legally aired in some countries
They're still legally aired here. EVERY "movie" and "TV show" with smoking is nothing but an advertisement.

Why are you not allowed to advertise cigs, but can advertise alcohol and prescription drugs?

      >Why are you not allowed to advertise cigs
It is allowed, ads for smoking are all over TV

Last time I had a Winston was 2009 or 10, and they were one of the few cigarettes left that didn't taste like total ass or chemical compounds (even though that's what they were at that point). Glad I stopped smoking, but man I swear it helped me write like an actual writer should.

Those commercials are nothing short of terrifying.
        >undetectable
They might as well be saying, “Here, take this so you can go infect hundreds of other people over the course of your lifetime, so that we can make them dependent on our drugs, too!” There should be laws against this.

Because any mention of the negative effects of alcohol causes people to kneejerk respond with references to Prohibition and icky religious fundamentalism. As for pharmaceuticals, it's because most people see medicine as "magic science juice" that can't hurt them, and therefore completely unrelated to the "wicked evil pushers getting youths addicted to drugs and causing them to do the criminality to each other".

Alcohol is advertised in Europe too, obsessed-kun.

They likely knew it wasn't too healthy though. At some point you'd notice that the smokers are the ones having respiratory issues more frequently.

Yeah which is what caused those studies to happen. That doesn't change the fact that doctors are people too and susceptible to the same vices. There are doctors out there today that still smoke, go to any ER ward and look for where the surgeons are on break; more than one of them will be smoking to relax his nerves and focus. Regardless of how unhealthy it is, nicotine does have its uses.

Only Americans are dumb enough to cry about smoking while loading foods with harmful chemicals and high fructose corn syrup, especially in food marketed towards kids. Then there's the fact that America is the only country where advertising prescription medications that have debilitating side effects is legal.

All food has chemicals in it, you don't know what HFCS is, and all western countries advertise prescription drugs on TV.

Is that an actual lie, though? The studies on smoking-related cancer didn't really exist prior to the 1950s, and most people (including nonspecialist doctors) didn't know about them until it went public in the 60s. I have zero doubt that a significant percentage of doctors smoked back then, and have no reason to not believe they smoked Camels over anything else.

When I was 19 and trying cigarettes for the first time, I bought several brands. Winston's was by far the most gentle. Camel and Marlboro were rough on my virginal lungs.

I never picked up the habit because cigs are expensive as heck.

              >Why is it only tobacco that gets so much propaganda dumped on it?

I think I know what the reason is. It's because they need wagies to be strong and work as long as possible. They don't actually care about your health, and they just want you working longer before you die.
