Pre release ticket sales are a very strong indicator of opening weekend performance. Walk up volume is generally predictable when compared to it.

Elemental had the Pixar name, which is just about as powerful as the WDAS name. They're definitely going to be advertising this movie is from the same directors and writer of Frozen.

          >The Goat Talks
One of the things Encanto got right was not having the animals yapping wtf couldn't Wish do the same?

Because Jennifer Lee is moronic. She is trying to give a canonical reason as to why the animals in Disney films talk. What she doesn't realize is that only Cinderella could talk to mice, Ariel was part fish, Iago was literally a parrot, and Tiana was temporarily a frog. Other than those animals don't talk except maybe to other animals.

It could literally be two hours of HD footage of Harrison Ford taking a dump and it would make more than Elemental solely off the Indie name. They know this and probably have spent way more on marketing, which with the baloonned reshoots budget means they might take a bigger loss when all is said and done.

Honestly it's shocking how almost every movie is flopping tremendously right now. The ridiculously high budgets of these movies has a lot to do with it.

No it didn't. OP is making shit up.

They should go back to 2D animation, or better yet Cel-animation. Maybe have some VFX in there like in Tarzan or Beauty and the Beast or something, But going full 3D-Animation was a Mistake, they should've Stayed with 2D and leave the 3D stuff to Pixar

They'd need new blood, I can't stress how bad it is that the metaphorical inmates are running the asylum at the moment over at the mouse. It's either they start hitting up unused scripts and concepts written in the glory, like I'm certain that they could either try and tackle some wild west/greek mythology/ fairy tales/classic literature that haven't been adapted yet (I know that there was talk of The Nightingale getting adapted in the 1970s that never got off the ground, they could do it if they wanted given that it's set in China) or they could pick some older books for teens that were popular awhile ago (My Teacher Is an Alien and the like) and could have a good run of material for D+. However, this would require the people running the show actually wanting to make new things instead of rely on existing properties.

Trolls also has I think all of Justin's old bros coming to voice his bros in the movie.
Honestly World Tour was great so I have hopes for 3.
Still won't get to see it till streaming (2 1/2 yr old, no where near theater ready)

That's what being reported by some sites. There's also reports of a special 80-million dollar ad campaign and people aren't sure if that's additional to the 140 million or part of it.

Our Ariel didn't flop. Try again Chud.
          >Break even in box office
          >+estimated 80 million in rentals
          >+estimated 100 million in Disney plus value
This isn't even including Merchandise and Halle Bailey's limitless increase in popularity.

It's hilarious to watch Bigoted Chuds celebrate tying the battle, but losing the war

toys from the movie are already at discount stores for not even half the price of their original.
also how the frick are they gonna make 100 million off it on D+? It's a $14 a month site that for the most part streams toddler shows and movies so parents don't have to play with their kids. Kids are going to pick the original over live action.

With Walt Disney Animation Studios’ upcoming Thanksgiving animated movie “Wish” also with a $200 million budget and Pixar’s 2024 original film “Elio” likely to do the same, both of Disney’s animation houses may have to face the prospect of belt-tightening if these films continue to struggle theatrically, even given Disney’s ability to turn their films into fountains of merchandising revenue.

I genuinely see frick all advertising for Disney or Pixar films even when watching kids' entertainment and taking kids places and only learn about them from Cinemaphile. I know they're advertising them somewhere but I remember when I wasn't ever watching kids' entertainment or much of anything really and would still somehow see a ton of marketing for each film. It feels different.

I don't doubt the films are also bad I just also don't see marketing for them.

Little Mermaid is inching its way towards the breakeven point; it's not a success but it's not doing anywhere near as badly as early predictions thought it would.

It won't even be the worst performing live action remake since it will likely pass the second Maleficient film which had a budget in the same neighborhood.

      Anonymous

With a budget of 250 million and 140 million marketing means it needs to make at least 780 million to break even.

Some say 560 million is break even, but that's assuming a bunch of ancillary sales and streaming rights licensing that's just cope.

        Anonymous

$140 million marketing is extremely unlikely and, since I'm not seeing a specific source for that amount, is likely based on people extrapolating from the budget based on some outdated notions about how marketing for motion pictures works.

The old rule of thumb for marketing being half to roughly the same as the production budget doesn't take into account the collapse in advertising costs over the past few years. Sure, Super Bowl ads are still outrageous but that's thr exception and not the rule.

Plus there's the simple fact that a lot of advertising money spent for a film by a company like Disney is really just being shifted around internally. Like Disney paying for advertising on ABC.

Again, it's not a success but calling it a bomb is stretching things. It's not a Lone Ranger or John Carter disaster by any stretch of the imagination. Especially since those came before the decline in advertising costs.

          Anonymous

That's what being reported by some sites. There's also reports of a special 80-million dollar ad campaign and people aren't sure if that's additional to the 140 million or part of it.

But Black Little Mermaid did something worse it further damaged the trust and good faith customers have in the Disney brand. And that's something money can't fix. Race swapping popular characters is asking for trouble some people are starting to realize Disney is a Leftist Factory of shit.

And Wish is going to damage the brand further. Boys won't care about this shit and girls don't like shitty princesses like Merida or black princesses like Tiana and people are getting tired of shit skins being spammed for this year and Wish is the final movie about blacks for this year so by the time it's released people will be burned out.

I think they’ve just done a bad job designing the black princesses. Tiana’s official dress was IMO not a winner. The Wish girl is really cute by I don’t like how her dress looks either and I don’t think Disney really knows how to strongly appeal to black female audiences’s sense of taste. I think they are inclined to like more color and dramatic looks while this new princess looks bland. If they want to make strongly appealing black princesses they need to hire like, models or fashion designers or something to give them pointers.

Due to them being fricking stupid and thinking corsets are sexist, they can't do close fitting dresses otherwise they look terrible. This results in tissue paper dresses or just scruffy looking ones.

I’d be curious to see the concept art. Pretty much every black female artist I follow has a keen sense of fashion and that taste isn’t reflected in the films Disney makes for them. I remember reading a Victorian era memoir that had a short aside about fashion in the city the woman was visiting and even then the woman remarked on how colorful the black women were and all the different accessories they liked to wear so it seems to be a really long standing preference.

I think Spiderverse did a better job reflecting the sense of aesthetics black women might like and not because it’s a ‘black film’ but because of characters like Lyla and Byte and stuff like the color schemes. I think Disney’s core aesthetics are just overly suffused with traditional European influence where I can’t see them plausibly being ‘cool’ or designing cool looking characters let alone cool looking female ones and that hurts their black female leads most because I think that’s what audiences would want from them. A dress that might work for a white princess just doesn’t work on a black one and makes her look mid.

I don’t know if I’m expressing myself well or seeing patterns that aren’t there. I just swear there’s some different aesthetic sensibility in what black audiences want that you see reflected in their art. Wish’s Asha looks like she was designed by a white person or at least her design was approved by one.

              Anonymous

Asha needs to have white girls and Latinitas to sell. Black girls is too small of a market.

It's amazing how Disney chooses the worst of both worlds- they want an authentic setting and accurate costuming but modern social sensibilities.

Beyoncé is popular with everyone. There have many many successful black female artists in Latin America and some of the most well known runway models in history were black. But they’ve all had energy and panache that’s lacking in Disney’s designs. What I’m saying is that the aesthetic preferences of black women influence what other people expect from black female characters and they don’t want to see a reskinned white woman.

The Barbie outfit is precious. I know Barbie herself is white but I think the aesthetics of the upcoming Barbie film are more fun and playful in a way that black girls would enjoy. It’s not just the actress but the clothes, the color palette, the way the sets look.

The live action remakes have been steadily damaging the brand for years. The Jungle Book remake rubbed a lot of people the wrong way by changing the ending (and missing the entire fricking point of the story in the process), Beauty and the Beast was a massive collision of miscasting and bad directing, Aladdin's domestic box office was only a little over half of BATB's and the Bollywood draw overseas was the only thing that let it draw a big profit, Dumbo was a bomb, Lion King was panned, Pinocchio flopped, and now Little Mermaid.

Combine that with all the lackluster Pixar movies, fumbling the Star Wars franchise, and all the problems with their parks and merchandising and Disney has had an absolutely appalling decade.

TLM remake really is more of a flop than a bomb.
I think beyond the controversy of the film itself people were so confidant it would do Aladdin numbers so when it fell short of that (and so dramatically internationally) people started assuming the worst. It's still not doing well but compared to Elemental or how Indy's looking it might end up being Disney's second highest grossing film this year.

This depends on the level of survival you're willing to accept. If it's simply a matter of Disney existing, sure, they can "afford" another bomb or 10. They may have to sell some stocks. They may have to sell some intellectual properties. They may have to reduce land holdings. They may have to fire another 25% of their workforce. Who am I kidding, layoffs would be the first thing they'd do.
If cartel videos have taught people anything, it's that you can cut off and eat many pieces of a human being before they expire. Disney is the same way.

It's amazing how the worst thing about Encanto is the protagonist Mirabel. Even her song is ignored.

If they really wanted to make money they’d make a good 2D movie and surprise nostalgiagays with it ala Coca Cola Classic.

Why in the frick would you make a CG feature that tries to look 2D? The CG normies are going to think it looks cheap because muh detail muh GRAFIX and the nostalgiagays and autists aren’t going to get the dopamine hit of a 2D feature. I swear Disney is run by mongoloids now.

Spiderverse does not look like 2D, it looks like stylized 3D.
This looks like it’s trying and failing to pass itself off as an homage to Renaissance Disney.

You know what I hate? Because of all these shitty movies that Disney has been making including Wish? I dread to see these films as worlds in Kingdom Hearts.

The appeal of Kingdom Hearts is that you are exploring the worlds of beloved movies. I don't care about any of this modern trash starting with Frozen which is a disgustingly overrated shitty movie. From Frozen until now? All I see is garbage. Kingdom Hearts doesn't work if the worlds are based on shoddy media. Sometimes I feel that Kingdom Hearts would be better off sold to Square Enix so they can make collaborations with different companies instead of being stuck with Modern Disney.

It could work if Sqeenix had more freedom in how they work with the worlds, allowing them to maybe take a decent concept that was done poorly by Disney, and try and work it into something better.
But Didney would never allow that. The Frozen world could have been so good if it wasn't for their meddling.

I haven't really played Kingdom Hearts, but wasn't the Tangled world really well done in III? If that's the case, it would seem a little unusual given how it's a newer film. However, I could totally see Lee being possessive of the Frozen franchise and not giving a frick about Tangled since it was released before she was brought into the studio.

The Tangled world was almost a straight retelling of the movie but with Sora, Donald and Goofy as the awkward third, fourth, and fifth wheels. They're not participants in the story so much as they are spectators to it. Not as bad as the Frozen world where they only interact with the movie's characters in a whopping two entire scenes, or the Pirates 3 world where they're just a sideplot goofing off wiht fake-Jack while the rest of the characters are off doing the entire plot of the movie off-screen, but still a worse implementation than every single Disney world in KH1.

Byron Howard seriously should have been made CCO after Disney terminated Lasseter. He's an actual animator with several successful features under his direction. He pretty much saved Bolt and help Glenn Keane save Tangled.

    THANK YOU

Lee acts like she's so clever. For Wish, she gave Asha a group of friends collectively referred to as the "teens" and openly stated they're based on the seven dwarfs. I don't think she understand the dwarfs were made to be cartoony with their one-note personalities. She's trying to make these friends supportive without the charm.

I bet you Grumpy's nonbinary too.

    >Who knows, she's a shitty woman and a symbol of the modern era. But if I have to guess she probably felt threatened by Kingdom Hearts because it could have risked how Frozen is seen. If Kingdom Hearts depicts Frozen badly it could ruin the sacred image that she feels Frozen has. She's one of those self opinionated individuals who thinks only her opinion matters because she's the director in question for Frozen.
    >I heard that the idea of the Frozen world of Kingdom Hearts was the old prototype idea of Elsa being an antagonist. An idea that was dropped for the Disney movie itself. And Jennifer Lee seriously hates the idea of precious snowflake Mary Sue Elsa ever being seen as a villain of any kind. So that may have contributed to her hatred of Kingdom Hearts.
    >But at the same time during the making of Frozen 2? Jennifer Lee's "brilliant" idea is to kill off Elsa to promote Anna to take the spotlight because it seems Jennifer Lee worships Anna as her self insert and is disappointed people don't care about her compared to Elsa. Disney naturally blocked her Kill Elsa idea. Jennifer Lee is nothing more than a difficult "C U Next Tuesday" to deal with a pain in the ass from what I can see and the day she's finally ousted from her privileged job at Disney will be a good thing. Oh sure we could get a worse replacement but right now all we know is this terrible "C U Next Tuesday" is shit.

Wow, so Jennifer Lee was the one behind the whole KH3-Frozen fiasco, and why neither Anna, Elsa, nor Kristoff were made party members?

I don't know, but maybe somebody knows more than I do. I wouldn't be surprised though. There's nobody else with the power to demand otherwise. Chris Buck had no problem with Tarzan, Lasseter allowed for pretty much everything, so who else could it be?

If it's true, it's kind of ironic Lee worked on a video game movie. She totally seems like the type to blindly hate video games.

I don't think sanitized as much as boring like the rest of the movie. Making the cis white Chrstian male with showmanship the villain? Just seems too easy. So far I don't see any flair.

Look closely at that design. He's going to be secretly good all along, like a reverse Hans.

The princess sings an entire song about how she wishes everybody knew how corrupt the king is. Yes, that's the wish the entire movie is built around.

is funny how Netflix indirectly caused the entire industry to switch to failure model such as individual streaming services because all the companies were too damn greedy to keep their shows on Netflix and took them away so they could get their own part of the pie but since no many are willing to pay for multiple services most just pirate everything and now even Netflix is bleeding money fricking kek
