100th anniversary should be a celebration of the company's past, for the audience who has been watching.
Instead, it was a celebration of the company's management and what they felt they could market to people.
It's doing so much worse than Elemental already. Even with it's small opening, Elemental was making 3mil+ daily in its first week. Wish is already dead.
The only thing I can think is that Disney+ and Hulu have killed any interest in seeing Disney movies in theaters anymore but FNAF outperformed The Marvels despite releasing on Peawiener the same day so you can't just say streaming killed the box office.
Honestly, unless you're a poorgay who's stuck renting, why even go to a theater anymore? Setting up a home theater isn't exactly rocket science, and you don't have to deal with the downsides that come with being in a public space.
It doesn't matter what the concept would be if it's the current creative people in charge. They would just have bombed a Mickey movie and tarnished his character forever if Disney allowed these hacks to use him.
Couldve been a 3D Fantasia. I suppose once upon a studio fills that role (kinda) but I’m not sure since I didn’t watch that. That said, I wouldn’t trust Disney with making impressive or fun animation in a Fantasia 3. Not even if it was 3D.
Woke activist diversity hires with no talent brought in by Iger destroyed this film, now Iger is throwing them under the bus for doing what he told them to do kek
>Bland looking movie, plot is presented as generic and nothing new. Cast is also another generic quirky woman with a safe, uninteresting personality and their cute animal sidekick. >Princess is wearing a genetic purple dress that doesn't make her stand out against other princesses, which is bad for the Disney Princess brand >People got to hear the songs before the movie and they sucked. Were written by someone who makes pop slop for celebrities and not by someone who writes songs for musical. All of them end up sounding like they were written by an AI >Supporting cast all look bland and generic as well. Only the villain is hot but since his song sucks it killed hyper for him >Recent Disney movies have felt lower in quality and audiences are less immediately trusting in the brand to produce something good >People who have seen it comment on the story not making much sense and the villain having a point, this makes the word of mouth for the movie not in its favor
And this is just the audience side of things, there is a lot that went wrong in development as well. Disney are going to really have to learn a lesson from this failure, but I have a feeling they are going to learn the wrong lesson and continue to keep making the mistakes that make their current movies suck so much.

That's because this movie was made in about 6 months due to the strike killing any chance to edit it in post. The crew basically had from November 2022 - May 2023 to do the entire film.
Yeah, hence why I mentioned there was a lot that went wrong in development as well. The movie definitely needed more time to cook but they needed to rush it out for their anniversary since that was the apparent point of the movie.

Apparently the songs were written before the script was even finished, which I assume means the four demo tracks. Those four were I Wish, At All Costs, I’m A Star, and Knowing What I Know Now.
Also, looking at the various concept art for the film, I’m struck by how vibrant Asha’s earlier designs are. Some of them go beyond generic and look like they do belong in the culture she’s supposed to be from, the Amazighs. Yes, Asha wasn’t just supposed to be a generic black protagonist, she was supposed to be a specific ethnic group. good luck telling which based off just her clothing. Also, Allison Moore worked on this film with Jennifer Lee. Her best known work is a single episode of Manhunt, about catching the Unabomber.
I wanna see earlier drafts of the screenplay, see how it evolved into this current mid-tier trash.
Frozen 2's soundtrack had the same issue, with Into the Unknown being written for another movie entirely. Disney just doesn't know what they are doing now and were riding solely on their image.
They've basically sucked up all of their good will in a few short years.

Frozen really fricked things up long term for this company, didn't it? Let it go being this pop-y song that didn't even match the original script that they then decided to write around probably influenced how they wrote songs for their future projects, leading to shit like this with wish. Trying to rely on breakout popular songs that can be played on the radio instead of musical songs worked into the story. It's actually kinda weird "we don't talk about bruno" was the most popular Encanto song when it's the weirdest one to listen to out of the context of the movie.
I didn't watch the movie so maybe the queen adopts her, but is it a princess movie if she isn't the king's daughter and doesn't fall in love with a prince?
>what went so wrong?
Creation through committee. The creator is being denigrated and business bros think they know better. Who would have thought that unimaginative buttholes who specialize in making money would fricking suck at coming up with good creative ideas?
> What you have to remember is that in the movies there are two types of people: 1) the directors, artists, actors and so on who have to do things and are often quite human and 2) the other lifeforms. Unfortunately you have to deal with the other lifeforms first. It is impossible to exaggerate their baleful stupidity.
They spend hundreds of thousands on studies and surveys to find out what targeted demographics like and take all of those answers and force them on the director.
So we end up with a plushie friendly star
talking goat
forest full of more talking animals
the seven persons of varying sizes, races, and genders
don't need no man
main character who is a college revolutionary type
pop songs
>generic title >generic tag line >generic villain >generic black girl >generic animal sidekick
Yeah, what could possibly lead people to not want to watch this?
I don't really know what to say. The textures on everything were awful, I've seen better textures in early 2010s video games. The songs were pretty bland and had weird rhythms, the only one that got my blood pumping was the revolution one. Overall, it wasn't bad, just kind of bland. I understand why it's not doing so well if I'm being completely honest.
>Be careful what you wish for >The movie is about a girl trying to ensure everyone gets their wish regardless of the consequences
Bravo Disney, I see you really put effort into this one.

I thought it made 50 million domestic. If that's WW then it was worse than I expected.
No character has a good design, Asha only had a single porn pic before the movie release.
It was the projection, for the 5 days weekend.
Has it even been released internationally yet?
Yes
Not all markets. It has a staggered release like Elemental. If it's still doing this poorly, then the fake legs of Elemental isn't happening.
It's doing so much worse than Elemental already. Even with it's small opening, Elemental was making 3mil+ daily in its first week. Wish is already dead.
Removing the love interest and not making the Queen evil in favor of a generic plot. Also forgetable songs that arent even catchy like let it go.
The only thing I can think is that Disney+ and Hulu have killed any interest in seeing Disney movies in theaters anymore but FNAF outperformed The Marvels despite releasing on Peawiener the same day so you can't just say streaming killed the box office.
It's not streaming, it's rejection of the brand
Honestly, unless you're a poorgay who's stuck renting, why even go to a theater anymore? Setting up a home theater isn't exactly rocket science, and you don't have to deal with the downsides that come with being in a public space.
The Star was going to a dude. They took that away.
The goat is a terrible sidekick
The 100th Anniversary movie should have been a Mickey Mouse movie like A Goofy Movie style.
It doesn't matter what the concept would be if it's the current creative people in charge. They would just have bombed a Mickey movie and tarnished his character forever if Disney allowed these hacks to use him.
It should have been a third fantasia movie
No one cares about Fantasia.
🙁
Adjusted for inflation, Fantasia 2000 did $160 million at the global boxoffice. Baring a miracle, Wish isn't hitting that.
Couldve been a 3D Fantasia. I suppose once upon a studio fills that role (kinda) but I’m not sure since I didn’t watch that. That said, I wouldn’t trust Disney with making impressive or fun animation in a Fantasia 3. Not even if it was 3D.
The other two were financial failures, they were not about to go for a third
Disney won't use Mickey beyond toddler shit because they're scared of making a bad film and harming "the brand". Disney is truly soulless now
Woke activist diversity hires with no talent brought in by Iger destroyed this film, now Iger is throwing them under the bus for doing what he told them to do kek
Woke woke woke woke woke woke? Woke woke woke woke. Woke woke, woke woke woke.
You aren't wrong. It was ESG sponsored wokeness that killed the Disney beast.
No no, you're not supposed to deride or deny woke yet. You're supposed to say "real woke-ism hasn't been tried yet!"
Why did you just copy his post?
Iger just says and does what he thinks shareholders want to hear
to even give him the benefit of the doubt that he actually has sentience is silly
>directed/screenplay by three women
>one being Jennifer Lee
Hmmmmmmmmm

This seems very plausible
There are rumors of the movie being barely rendered by October, those badly looking trailers were all that they had.
>appears out of nowhere
>blocks evil magic
lol
lmao even

And they still at least made Into The Unknown fit into the film.
This whole film is so lazy I feel insulted.

Disney princess movie with NO LOVE INTEREST. Frick that
I didn't watch the movie so maybe the queen adopts her, but is it a princess movie if she isn't the king's daughter and doesn't fall in love with a prince?
Mulan’s a Disney princess ain’t she?
Moana and Raya, also didn't have a love interest.
Merida had a scrapped tease with Young Macguffin
Yeah, and those movies were shit too.
I wonder what lee has been feeling like ever since it all came out.
>what went so wrong?

Should have made the queen the antagonist of the film.
>generic title
>generic tag line
>generic villain
>generic black girl
>generic animal sidekick
Yeah, what could possibly lead people to not want to watch this?
tag line
The tag line is completely different from the movie plot.
Maybe people didn’t see it because they assumed they’d seen it already
I'm a THIEF!
>barges into the board
>posts this
>refuses to elaborate
>leaves
hey that's what happens when Disney tries to bury the corpse of a movie so revolutionary.
You know what. I wanna see a 3d Thief and the Cobbler.
No you don't
I actually had ideas for a 3d version of it, kinda like this thing here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVco1ABVsgY
Okay, so I saw it.
It was.... okay.

"Welcome to Rosas" is so dumb that even the slotslights bobbleheads are dissatisfied with it.
the slotlights cutaways were the highlight of watching this movie for me
Jennifer Lee is a one hit wonder and Disney is finally learning that
no they aren't, they got Larry Fink sending them monies.
I've noticed a few people trying to rewrite this film. What if we did the same?
What?
>Be careful what you wish for
