I watched this when I was young and enjoyed its imagination. Interesting to think what Jones would have done if he were alive during a time more welcoming to creator-driven animation (not now lmao, I mean like a few decades ago).
I was going to bring up Gay Purr-ee, until I realized that it was directed by Abe Levitow- one of Jones' frequent collaborators. Still, it's basically a Chuck Jones film otherwise: he and his wife wrote the story, and you can recognize his art direction and character acting from a mile away.
Is there anyone here who watched the film WITHOUT having read the book prior?
I've never read the book, just saw the movie for the first time a few weeks ago, actually. I saw snippets of it on YouTube years ago and thought it looked pretty neat, but never went out of my way to watch it.
The Phantom Tollbooth was the first chapter book my son read completely independently. I thought it'd be fun to watch the movie with him, and at the end he had to explain every difference between the two.
But are they normal?

He created a flash cartoon
One word surprisingly can anger an entire people into a murderous rage.
Trump
Am i the only one who was creeped out by the doldrums?
No, the concept creeps me out too. Reminds me of the Swamps of Sadness in the Neverending Story or the poppy scene in The Wizard of Oz.
DUMB FRICKING HORSE HE LOVES YOU
>sobs
Christopher Robin?
Oso de caca
Maboroshi no ryōkinsho
the phantom tollbooth. Chuck Jones did the animation, and the kid who was the werewolf on the Munsters was the star.
Is this the only feature film Chuck Jones ever directed?
It would seem so. Dang it, now that song is in my head again.
What song? This one's been stuck in my head lately: https://youtu.be/mKMdJEiS5qo

God, I love how soothing the music from this era could be. Makes me wanna watch The Phantom Tollbooth again. It really has been ages.

Honestly, this movie sucks. Doesn’t even come close to capturing the feel and wit if the book
>what is any book adaptation ever
Read more books, kids.
The Harriet the spy cartoon is a pretty good adapt
Great meme material

Nice. You're raising him right, anon. I wish you all the best.
That's pretty cute.
This might be one of the worst promotional images/thumbnails I've seen.
Or the best.
Why is a child driving
Because everyone is born with a license to drive(people crazy)
Toy car, like a Power Wheel, but old. Think it might turn into a more functional car when he passes the toll-booth, but I can't remember.
Dude the more I look at this image, the more I get "Fear and Loathing in Los Vegas" vibes from it.
This is Numbers Country. We can't stop here.
It’s accurate to the book
I remember reading the book and loving it, still haven’t finished this movie yet
>Alice in Wonderland if it was written by Principle Skinner
Goddammit now you're gonna make me wanna rewatch that too. Painting the Roses Red is already playing in my head
Those Chuck Jones ‘frick me’ eyes

>Bugs says protect trans kids.
>bug says I got into bed with a US senator but I won’t tell you which.
I knew a dude that had a thing for the twin princesses at the end.
And?

I had no idea it was based off a book when I was a kid. I do remember liking the movie alot though.
I can’t read… 🙁
Are you a Yu-Gi-Oh player, by any chance?
Saw it on Cartoon Network. Read the book years later.
Ah, okay.
Slenderman?
