Most likely, shows intended for an explicitly male audience are handled extremely poorly, leading to a perceived lack of interest. Ergo, had they made her the MC (with a few adjustments to her character), it would've sold better since they'd actually put time into making a decent female lead.

What do you mean by this, like shows mainly geared for boys like regular show or kick buttowski? I love female leads but I feel like if they just wrote the male lead better it would of gotten more love
The few people that bothered watching Subterranean Summer did not like Billy at all because he was annoying to the audience.

Least in the beginning, before relationship drama seeped in, likely to draw in more female fans just like Adventure Time around the same timeframe. Kick didn't get the love it deserved til much later when the zoomies had their inevitable nostalgic phase.

I think having Genndy Tarkakovsky as part of the creative team would have helped more like Periwinkle and Koroth.
But Genndy and the mouse sounds like matchmade in hell
Now that you bring it up I don't think Genndy has ever worked on any animation for Disney TVA or even Nick. He only does series for CNS/WB and movies for Sony.
It definitely would have helped if the main character didn’t look like a fat ginger vegana.
The show's MC was so disgusting to look at that literally anything different would've probably saved it.

>Show has 22 minutes like The Owl House and Gravity Falls
>Show focuses on Marsha and like every DTVA protagonist, she is awkward and quirky but the twist is that she is a "yes man" type of person,easy to manipulate which leads her being paired up with Billy and Zeke for the school science fair by the school's newspaper
>Billy is just the comic relief of the show, Zeke always looks at Marsha as a lonely girl seeking attention and trought the series they become loyal friends and a found family with Billy being a lonely kid and Zeke being a trouble maker.
>Going to Subterra-tania plays as usual
>Show is about Marsha learning all summer that she dosn't need to be an "all yes" type of person, each episode has Marsha meeting the cast of the final series and finding the scraps to go back to Earth.

Not bad, the show really would’ve worked better if it was about all three of the kids equally in the whole run instead of Billy being the most prominent protagonist.

Springer's a great cartoonist, I think it's sad that his legacy is largely his post movie SpongeBob episodes. Even if you dislike Billy Dilley, he worked on Gravity Falls, wrote and boarded in SpongeBob's golden years and created Korgoth and Periwinkle Around the World.
Then what the frick happened with Billy Dilley? Why did Disney even find the show and allow it to turn out the way it did if they were just going to shit out all 13 episodes in less than two weeks with little to no advertising?
