The comics were as bad, if not worse than Korra.

Because they just traced an image of a normal fricking forklift instead of coming up with something unique.

I've literally seen art posted in one of these threads before where someone actually came up with what a bending powered forklift would look like in the style of the show and it looked great. As much as I give Korra shit for some of the stuff they included they at least tried to paint most of their technology with the Asian aesthetics brush instead of just giving us regular ass european cars.

It's completely idiotic to implement it like this. This shit is overall moronic, no matter how steam punky it is and logistically impossible and they so happened to move this shit through the whole dessert.

I like how this doesn't even make sense considering the Fire Nation takes great influence from both China and Japan. China is basically the only country throughout most human history to be more or less okay with same-sex relationships (namely because the population is so massive a handful of gays aren't a risk), even if they aren't public about it. Hell, Japan historically speaking was in a similar position (only that it was exclusively a privilege the rich could afford) at a few points throughout their history and culture, and even today it falls under the same "don't make it public" thing.

It makes no sense for ANY ATLA nation to be homophobic considering ALL of their real world counterparts allowed same-sex relationships in some capacity. This just exists for the sake of making the Fire Nation more evil.

As much as burgers talk about the 1%, it's more like 0.001% in China and Japan. So yeah it's good reason to be pissed if virtually everyone in your society can't have that luxury.

I justify it as a way of the Fire Nation becoming more and more militaristic. The Fire Nation were probably the second most populous nation so they didn't really need to worry about the population. As soon as they focused on world conquest, they changed their minds because doing such a thing would require a huge and perpetual population. Sozin probably didn't really care about gay people but he must've thought that even it was vital to enforce the rule on like two percent of the population at most for the war effort. It's the same reason why there's Fire Nation female soldiers and guards.

          Anonymous

I can kinda see the reasoning behind this at first, but historically the most important thing is producing children and it isn't like gay lovers couldn't also have a heterosexual spouse for the purpose of having children, pretty sure that was the norm for most of history in places where people weren't just killed for being gay.

Because they embraced the moronic idea that only Aang and Katara had a happy life in Korra so the comics followed up with that. I know in real life teens don't tend to end up with their high school love or whatever but at the end of TLA everyone had a happy ending. Further material had no reason to destroy that.

            Anonymous

Honestly if I were Bryke I would’ve had Aang have a harem out of necessity to help bring his people back. Reveal that he and Katara knew this was inevitable and break it off on good terms, hell, have her still be Tenzin’s mom.

We never even find out who Zuko’s daughters mom is do we? They really did just keep that shit vague as hell. And other than a single flashback we get absolutely nothing on the life Sokka led. They just fricked that man over.

1: Izumi's mom is Azula, thus why they don't come out with it.
2: Sokka is clearly just a glorified comic relief they had no clue what to do with long term, just like they had no idea what to do with Suki so they memoryholed them.

Where does the steam engine fit? Why does the water tribe which is by far the least advanced nation have access to this tech? Where are their rubber factories? Do they even have trees on the poles? How do these ice monkeys know how to operate a forklift? Is it water tribe tradition to get your forklift certification alongside your wolf's tail and face paint before going into battle? Where is all this processed metal coming from? Why use rubber wheels on ice? Gasoline? Electricity? Why use forklifts when you have benders and all of your architecture is made of ice?
