Yeah it is super weird how their og plan was to raise Korra themselves as an Avatar for the Red Lotus but then decided somewhere down the line that the Avatar needs to be extinguished in it's entirety. Gets even stupider once you realize Zaheer had no way to coordinate this new change in plan with the other lotus members since he was locked up for 13 years.

I think he was right about Zaheer's cell being kind of bullshit made just to build him up as a super bender villain while he doesn't even have bending.

Also, now I wonder... how would one imprison an airbender so he can't use air without killing him.

can one person explain why exactly zuko didn't kill these superpowered mega evil villains instead of letting them sit as a checkhov's gun on the shelf for 13 years inviting disaster, or why aang didn't take their bending away?

They're not the only members of their organization and they were trying to get names out of the four of them, they just never cracked. And since they were arrested for trying to kidnap Korra there's a pretty obvious reason Aang didn't take their bending away.

after all the bullshit we saw in the series, blood bending is still the most broken bending second to energy bending. What good is flying and creating a fricking volcano if you can't move to begin with.

        Anonymous

Frankly the thing no one seems to recognize as a a massive power upgrade while all of Korra gets ragged on for increasing the power floors. It is FRICKING INSANE is that Yakone was bloodbending as well as he was.

The most we saw in TLA was Kana puppeteering two people: one with each hand. That was probably her limit and Katara never bloodbends more than one person at once because her wrath is always more focused.

But Yakone Bloodbent an entire fricking courthouse worth of people. If literally the avatar wasn't there I'm sure he could have done something lethal like pressing all of them into a heap or squeeze all the blood out of their bodies.

I am pretty sure that Tenzinknows best about Air nomad philosophy than Zaheer whose pretty much an amateur and his technique is self-taught just like Zuko's firebending at the start of the series up until the beggining of S2

Zaheer achieves the apex of AirBending in a few days to getting it. The only person better then Zaheer at airbending is Avatar's in the Avater State

Are you moronic? There's nothing saying that Airbenders can't have families, Aang never mentioned anything like that. How tf do you think they reproduce?

            Anonymous

They frick, the men leave, the kids are born and once they're old enough they are separated by gender and raised in the different monasteries

The Air Nomad children aren't raised in traditional two parent households. All of the monks at the temple take part in raising them

              Anonymous

Well obviously they cannot do that same system anymore now that there no more monks to cultivate the young. Tenzin's the only airbending master in the world, there's no way he could expect to raise up a new nation of airbenders by just pumping and dumping.

He has air acolytes in enough numbers to rebuild each air temple and start a new one. Instead of dooming them to failing to live like air benders, he could have had a hundred or so kids and restarted the Air Nomads properly in a decade.

I meant that the White Lotus kept Korra locked up at a compound in the South Pole for 16 years. She was exposed to bending teachers but that's it

She had no exposure to failure or culture or life outside of that compound. That's why she struggled so much with Airbending.

If Tenzin had raised Korra instead of spending him time dumping Lin for a breedable Air Acolyte, maybe she wouldn't have struggled as much

Tenzin was a jobber and disappointment to his father. Zaheer was a true air nomad who achieved the pinnacle of airbending after just a few days. Tenzin failed to understand the teachings of Guru Laghima and was a complete failure who tried to make Korra in to a warrior for the globohomosexual Republican City

            His eldest daughter.
She was more spiritual than the person raised by Aang.

They wanted the Avatar to reopen the Spirit Portals so they were going to take them under their guidance and raise them as their own so the Avatar would do what they believed was needed for the world. Reopen the portals, and then eventually sacrifice themselves for Balance.
It's a stupid shortsighted plan since humans tend towards systems of order much like other animals in the animal kingdom.

I really hate how they made spirituality (and the entire bending system in general). A giant diceroll where all that seems to matter is innate talent instead of careful discipline and study. Tenzin who meditated for years to try and enter the spirit world gets mogged by his own daughter who got it on her first try, holy shit frick this show.

They turned Bending into the X-Gene. Some people are just randomly born with superior powers, despite displaying no reason to have them, while all others are required to undergo intense, soul-wracking trials and enlightenment, and life-long training to be pretty strong, at best.

Meanwhile, some random frickstick can just be born with powers that exceed anything the best benders in the world can do and his kids can also just get lucky and inherit the God-level bending power, just because.

Azula had the entire wealth of the Fire Nation and the country's best teachers behind her. Why do you think Zuko's only average ability came as such a disappointment? The royal family does nothing but train to bend fire and do whatever pseudo-important bullshit the aristocracy does in between mismanaging their generals.

Combustion man was given no explanation, but that ability was the ONLY thing he did, so it's safe to assume it was the one and only thing he ever practiced. A case of "I fear the man who has practiced the same kick a thousand times".

                Anonymous

Plus Combustion Man's power is a reasonable extension of another power we see in the series (heat redirection), so it makes him and P'li even more believable than the fricking stupid psychic AoE bloodbending

just another reason atla is better than lok. lok fricked the powerlevels for everything. it took katara ages to learn relatively basic waterbending, and then you go to korra and every mook off the street is using OP boss moves as party tricks

                Anonymous

Katara went from nothing to master in the space of at most 2 months. Then she reached grandmaster in another 2 months. Bending is shit easy to learn if you have the time to train.

                Anonymous

It was never an airtight system, but there was clear that time + effort = results. Katara in an earlier episode was slower to take to Waterbending than Aang was but fast forward a couple episodes Katara now has outpaced Aang thanks to her hard work. That kind of dichotomy doesn't exist in Korra, they just hand out bending like it's Halloween candy

they would have tone down her rudeness and ego and made her understand that being the avatar is not something we have to "deal with it" but what's her role in this world as one. Zaheer would be more stricted than tenzin and perhaps he would at least achieve in teaching the avatar how to airbend, it would've been more of am honor for him to give back them what the air nomad taught him

Aang didn't start talking to Roku until he accepted his role as Avatar, and at first it required Heibai the spirit panda, a portal to the spirit world and/or the Solstice

It took time and a lot of personal and spiritual growth for Aang to learn how to summon Roku and Kyoshi and the others at will

Literally anything besides what they did to Korra would have made more sense. Instead of raising an enlightened world leader to unify all nations, they turned her into an anxious psychopath with a massive ego.

Somehow the wisemen of the Avatar World decided that not working with Korra at all so she could overcome her weaknesses and impulses before she got released into the world and instead just nagging her so she hated them was the best way to raise the fricking Avatar. So the Korra we got in the series feels like she wasn't trained or raised at all... and honestly, THAT WOULD HAVE MADE MORE SENSE. Instead of her being locked up her whole life, she was some wild butthole who never got to integrate with the world or interact with enough people to learn how to tamp down her feral bratty instincts.
