So is indie animation finally reaching the point indie games reached back in the late 2000s, where it’s finally getting more common and even somewhat sustainable, I swear I just keep seeing tv long animation on youtube now
This is both good and bad at the same time. Like the writing is almost TV quality but the animation and voice acting is so weird. Some shots look cool but some are terrible. And it's obviously DeviantArt-y.
But this looks really trashy. Bad art, shoddy animation, bad writing, iffy voice acting, just a completely random premise. Frick, I'm impressed they got nearly half an hour's worth of episode. This feels like an early webcomic turned into a cartoon. So yeah, I'm totally going to watch this in its entirety later on. I love trash like this.
OK, I've watched both episodes. I'd say I was pretty spot on with my first interpretation. This is a janky ass show that somehow just channels the flavor of early internet content, except it delivers it in decently long episodes. It's kind of like old Newgrounds and old webcomics had a baby. The only thing that isn't scuffed about this is Charlie's voice, and Mr Vag's arm animations for some reason. This thing is way, way more ambitious than it has any right to be and it makes good on practically nothing of it. Writing is all over the place, too.
But I kinda like it. Maybe it's nostalgia, or just because it's its own, unique thing. It got a few chuckles out of me, too. And the big fluffy dog is a plus, too. I've always had a soft spot for bold amateur projects, and this reminds me of every shitty webcomic I've ever vaguely enjoyed.
It's not good but I can see the passion in it I think. The guy clearly has more ambition than skill. I saw a good number of movements that looked like they were...not traced obviously but referenced from real human motions. Without understanding how it works of course. I gotta say however, I had fun with it. It's funny because it's bad. And I'm really looking forward to seeing more of this. At least as long as the creator has energy left.
