The best way Superman could ‘help’ humanity would be to start a eugenics program by which millions of human women could give birth to his superhuman babies, but that would destroy the superhero conceit of an endless power fantasy where one being’s power and abilities eclipse all ordinary people in society he inhabits without substantially altering it in any way.

I'm writing a novel about a random guy getting superpowers and I theorize that if you decided to help out in such a situation, governments (especially ameriisraelite) would start taking advantage of you obviously and even blackmail and threaten your family and friends to keep you from going ballistic. Is working at your maximum limit not enough? You could still alleviate a tremendous amount of suffering by just tackling the bigger problems that couldn't be solved without your powers like geopolitical conflicts like Israel-Gaza and help weed out corruption in governments and the political sphere in general. You could force the rich into redistributing their wealth which you know they would otherwise never agree to. You could force society to actually divert focus and funds towards issues it couldn't be bothered to address otherwise like the homeless. You could do a LOT of good (that would be pretty much impossible without your powers) even if you might not be able to save every single soul.

morals would be saving the world instead of making it worse.
the population of africa has been doubling every 20 years for the last century and will continue to do so for the next at least 80 years as projected by the UN.
not sure why you would want even more living there while you irrigate the whole continent and plant seeds.
you must have fallen for the "starving" meme. people who are starving don't go to 10x their population in a single century, that's a planet-killing locust swarm.

I didn't understand their logic why he couldn't hold up the plane. By that scene's logic he shouldn't be able to hold up stormfront while he's fricking her in the air but I guess maybe he's not strong enough to carry a plane

Planes are all aluminum foil except for a very intentionally designed frame made to support it only when all three tires hit a runway

I wouldn't have his patience. You talk even the remotest bit of shit to super-me and I'm eye lazering your face off. still doesn't make sense though. if he can generate the force to fly through buildings or travel at the speed of sound himself, he has the power to level out the plane to gift it natural lift.
as for the "he'd rip right through it" plebbitors, for reason they are so permanently stunted by wild sensationalism that they can't think outside of intense extremes - and are incapable of realising that gradually increased pressure does not cause things to explode instantly. he could just hold onto the front landing gear or spread his body out along a section of the front and gently ascend in stages.
        the plane would stabilise.
if he wanted to reduce weight and hazard, he could laser the engines off and poke a hole in the fuel so there's no fire risk.
it was just a meme scene that plebbitors blindly took as fact without the slightest bit of thought

Humanity never helped me. Why should I show it mercy when it gave me none? If I had the power, they would regret what they did to me.

      Anonymous

Thats a logical way to think about it. And regardless of whether the others in the thread will admit it who are talking about not trying to help anyone and just wreak havoc and serve their own interests, they're driven by the same logic. But just because something is logical doesn't mean its good or that you should do it. There's children out there who are just like you were once. Where you expected to be treated like you mattered but you weren't. If you adopt this mindset of tit for tat for humanity, you become the same person to those children that others were to you when you were also innocent like them. Thus perpetuating the never-ending cycle. This would be even something that needs to be said if society weren't so hell bent on forcing people to 'move on' and stop taking their traumas seriously. As this line of reasoning would occur naturally if the person sees what happened to them as being wrong and unacceptable rather than just 'meh' or 'whatever'. If something is objectively wrong, then you'll take steps to prevent it from happening to others as well. Whereas if you're told that its a 'you' problem, then the person is going to inevitably resort to thinking in terms of me, me, me and frick everyone else.

I'd go help out with major natural disasters, basically superhuman power to counteract superhuman events.
But otherwise I'd provide energy. I don't really know if Supes' heat vision has a limit but he's basically running on solar power and can transfer that power efficiently. I think most of the worlds human scale problems can be solved by a clean source of energy.
If not that then the whole flying fast to create water funnels and just go around putting water up hydro electric lakes.
If not that then the giant concrete block towers that lower on pulleys and dynamo's to store energy. Except I put the blocks up.

I'd prefer a way that allows me to have breaks, but putting a days work solving humanity's energy needs would be good.

Probably just fly around in my spare time since flying is fun.
