Actually the fire and sound weakness is psychosomatic, exposure builds resistance and some symbiotes are born with its radically decreased or even absent.

Yeah they forget it often enough because otherwise Symbiotes kind of have a billion ways to mog the frick out of people, along with them inheriting things from hosts or their parent's past hosts, but it's a thing. Originally it was not a goo monster at all but actual fabric and flammable. It was just semi intelligent fabric that could reshape itself into any kind of clothes.
It also had the ability to absorb powers from any superhuman it latched onto for a while. A mid 80s What If had the symbiote attaching to Hulk and becoming stupidly powerful.
