A good plot? The fricking story is about how some neet inherited a bunch of money and then wanted to colonize a planet with artificial people. Everything else is just the same exact themes told differently, but just as poorly.

Leto's character is embarrassing in general, but the retroactive super-speshul significance of Deckard and his robo-waifu feels like George Lucas-tier nonsense.

I was trying to articulate this, but you put it pretty well. It's one of those films that you just let wash over you as an audio/visual experience, rather than getting caught up in the intricacies of the plot as if you're reading a wiki. It's sort of the same mindset that one must get into while watching a David Lynch film, though BR isn't quite as surreal as a Lynch movie. But still, a similar mindset nonetheless.

                >Akira
Was conceptualized, produced, and written before Blade Runner's release, though the first volume wasn't published until December of '82.
                >Ghost in the Shell
is closer to Neuromancer in concept, and Blade Runner was never quoted as an inspiration.
                >The Matrix
                Never seen it.
                >Cyberpunk 2077
Arguably the closest representation because Pondsmith has quoted Blade Runner as a direct inspiration. However, people have assumed Neuromancer as a major inspiration due to their similarities, but Pondsmith has also noted that he didn't read the novel until well after Cyberpunk's release.
So if anything that actually proves that Blade Runner is an unoriginal piece of trash with wooden acting and a horrible story that stole all of its ideas from novels and actual artists.
No offense to Dick, Do Androids Dream(...) is a really good short, and the movie "adaptation" is fricking embarrassing compared to it.

the entire movie gets carried by the visuals and the ending, tears in the rain is certified kino. The rest of the movie is just "ok"

      >The rest of the movie is just "ok"
its a stunning visual representation of an important perhaps pivotal literary examination of the nature of artificial humanity, every prescient now in the era of extant AI

Cinemaphile is "filtered" because you're all morons, the great unwashed masses, phoneposting moronic unthinking opinions shat into the void
      you are the great filter

Please. This movie has nothing profound to say about AI. The fact the "villains" are robots is almost inconsequential

Take away the special effects and the sci-fi setting and it's literally just a boring old 1940's hardboiled detective story.

In fact, it's not as good as those old noir films. Harrison Ford doesn't really pull it off.

You couldn't understand the context. An old frick like me remembers urban sprawl before and after this movie. It was outstanding because it was incredibly prophetic. Not to mention that it influenced all of manga.
