Math doesn't describe the world, mathematical equations are a means of calculation those calculations are applied to observably and theorized physical phenomena to explain their properties.
to make up a BS example lets say A = apples, H = how hungry I am and F = how full my stomach is
So A - H = F using this example it takes A amount of apples minus how hungry I am to equal how full my stomach is. Obviously its not all that simple and there is a shitload more to other equations but the basic concept being that these formulas can be applied to everything in the physical world to determine how it functions.
