I grew up with teen titans as my exposure to the DC universe and thought this character was forever one of those mysterious "faceless" types where you will never know their true identity until I discovered deathstroke which killed all interest in the "mystery" behind this character cause it's just a one eyed old guy
same shit with Dr.Claw from Inspector Gadget. >Is he a robot? >Is he a cyborg like Gadget? >Is he Penny? >Is he a cat human monster?
Nah, he is just some old guy with a goatee
oh i guess it was judas traveler
anyway he just fricked around with spider man and there was a big damn deal about how mysterious he was and never any good answers as to what he wanted
>Mysterious wacko whose basically a schrodinger's paradox bullshit character
>really wants robin as a apprentice for some reason >robin hates him and will not join him willingly >manages to get him onto his side by infecting robins friends with nano bots that he can use to kill them with the flick of a switch >robin agrees to be his apprentice to protect his friends >now robin has to follow all of slade’s orders or his friend die >slade’s mission for robin?… to kill the teen titans
>slade really wants to take over the world for some reason >doesn’t achieve this because terra kills him >goes to hell >makes a deal with trigon so he can be brought back to life and escape hell >except trigon also wants to take over the world and turn it into hell >if slade is brought back to life he’ll just be going from real hell to earth hell, only to die of old age eventually and go back to real hell
Now don’t even get me started on Terra and Trigon
Terra's a b***h and trigon's a spiteful butthole. Next!
Hell, when I was watching Teen Titans for the first time, I didn’t know anything about DC. So when I saw Robin I thought to myself “wait, THAT Robin?” at some point. It didn’t solidify in my head until they brought in aqualad who I thought was aquaman for some reason.
Starfire was my favorite, she was just so innocent yet so beautiful.

I always thought his motives were well implied. The show's "Slade" wanted power, control, and a apprentice. Sort of like a sham version of what Batman had. Now, I know that's not like Deathstroke, but I think its neat enough for a villain.
>overarching mystery throughout the series >never get an explanation
it really says a lot when these frickers have 3 separate origins trying to explain who they are in the show >evolutionary endpoint for all life >The Swarm from G2 trying to repent after killing humanity >shadow beings from the previous universe that evolved after alls shadows got removed
The whereabouts of Zuko's mother. For all the praise avatar gets few mention the massive cliffhanger it ended on, as if they've blocked it out of their memories >b-but the comics
Were a lazy cash in and it's obvious they had no real plan for where the story would go.
In Titans' case, I literally didn't care. They kept it stupid simple for everybody.
IIRC the producer even said as much in an interview at one point that they didn't want to go into details about the characters that weren't obvious just watching them. That's why everyone got so excited when Larry's intro basically confirmed Robin was Dick.
OP You're hack, that's what made him good in the first place, delving under the surface would ruin his presence.
He's not a character that needs further inestigation.
We’re talking about motives here, not his backstory. I don’t need to know who he is or where he came from, but you have to give him a good reason for wanting apprentice and wanting to take over an empty city.

Yeah, they really make sure he's a real mystery in Teen Titans so seeing he's not really one in everywhere else could be a surprise.
>Who is Slade?
>WHO IS SLADE?
>He's... A guy named Slade. Slade Wilson.
Slade is a cooler name than fricking deathstroke. The latter sounds like something you experience after eating too much grease.
same shit with Dr.Claw from Inspector Gadget.
>Is he a robot?
>Is he a cyborg like Gadget?
>Is he Penny?
>Is he a cat human monster?
Nah, he is just some old guy with a goatee
there was some butthole from spider man who was like this
his name was judas priest or something like that, idk
oh i guess it was judas traveler
anyway he just fricked around with spider man and there was a big damn deal about how mysterious he was and never any good answers as to what he wanted
speaking of judas this guy is also one of op's mysterious buttholes
>Mysterious wacko whose basically a schrodinger's paradox bullshit character

Why can't they just straight up say he's Judas and leave it at that?
I thought Phantom Stranger was DC?
Judas from the Bible. The one who betrayed Jesus.
Fricking F.A.C.A.D.E.
I always thought it was neat that he claimed to be omnipotent, but it turned out he was just a telepath that convinced you he was.
what does he keep in his bags on his belt?
Candy corn and circus peanuts.
I mean, would it be hard to adapt his son's death in the show?
They adapted his other son, which is bizarre. He’s just there without acknowledging his past.
2004 just kinda throws you into shit.
They sure did.
You know what else? “Go” is JAPANESE FOR FIVE. That makes the theme song by AmiYumi make a lot more sense. I just figured it out a few days ago.

ONE TWO THREE FOUR GO TEEN TITANS
Wait, that was from the 2nd to last episode which aired in 2006 I think
Yeah. Later seasons made it seem like they expected you to know who Trigon and the fricking Doom Patrol are
Before the internet getting good, no less.

Can I say Darkseed or does it have to be pronounced Darkside?
Darkside.

Is that bionicle?
sure
no, its the beings running the "Experiment" that was prehistoric earth in beast wars.

Were a lazy cash in and it's obvious they had no real plan for where the story would go.
They'll PROBABLY do something with it in the new shit... Twenty years after the original series ended.
Snoke
The atmosphere and voice acting did a lot of the work. Remove all that and he's a shallow villain.
To be perfectly honest, he was carried hard by Perlman's performance
