The glaring problem here is that the movie made money because Pitt and Jolie were an IRL celeb power couple. A random plain Asian woman and the white man's black guy aren't it.

Amazon has so much money that it's flooding the market with garbage just to collapse the other studios to buy them up. That's the only reason they would throw away money like that. There's going to be a big studio consolidation much like we saw in the '70s and big tech companies will each have their own studio.
Amazon, Apple, Meta and all the other tech companies have basically infinite money and can take a loss to either gain a foothold or cripple another company who can't compete with their bottomless moneybags and then absorb any valuable assets. Microsoft and Sony basically sold their consoles at a loss (and still do) when they entered the business. Nintendo was so dominant it never really sold any console at a loss for any period of time. When Sony and Microsoft entered, they lost money with the console with hopes of recuperating it with game sales and lower costs in the future. They dinged Nintendo off its pedestal and practically annihilated Sega from consoles. Simply because they were willing to lose a shitload of money in the beginning to severely damage the competition. 95% of early XBox and Playstation games were complete shit, but they did a good job of flooding the market. Uber loses a shitload of money but it has enough money that no one can compete and will eventually make money.
