Like a lot of the jedi who turn to the dark side, Dooku allowed himself to get tempted in to doing sith shit and quickly got in over his head where he could never get out of it without putting himself in greater peril. He doesn't really like being a sith but he feels redemption is out of sight for him. Like all sith, he's planning to kill his master so he's laying SOME cards on the table to try and gain Obi-Wan's support.

Either because it leads to an increasingly strong line of individual dominating Siths who each must be better than their master, or because Darth Bane who created the rule was soul-hopping to his murderer each time

They need an apprentice because in case one of them dies, the sith legacy continues.
They are also stronger as a pair, the master can send the apprentice out without worry of his own personal safety.

Why do so many idiots say this? What feats do any Jedi in the prequels not named Mace Windu, Yoda, or Anakin have that even come close to Obi-Wan's? Qui-Gon was killed by the guy Obi-Wan killed. You have the dinosaur guy who was killed by Jango Fett. The "masters" who were killed by Palpatine in about two seconds. Ki-Adi Mundi and Aayla Secura were killed by clone troopers. Obi-Wan was far above average.

Maybe I’m wrong but I always thought it was the dumbest level of reverse psychology. Dooku told Obiwan that, knowing that Obiwan could never agree to listen to him because Dooku is a bad guy. Dooku can therefore totally control Obiwan’s actions. It’s Opposite Day-tier shit.

I was 12 when AOTC was released and even then it was pretty obvious Dooku was just being 100% honest with Obi. The jedi dont believe him because they think the dark side is full of shit

It's kinda fricked up how Star Wars was designed to turn generations of children into good loyal Democrats, what with the Empire/Sith just representing Republicans. So when you have a character like Dooku that has noble motivations, almost everybody just denies that there's anything to him because he's on the bad guy team, so really he must just lust for power.

        >Defends democracy
How could the libs do this

A sane message would be that it's the people themselves that matter, not the form of government itself. For example nobody can reasonably complain that Charlemagne was running an autocratic dictatorship. The issue with the Sith is that they're just blanket evil and there's no countercurrent to that, it's like Palpatine's takeover of the Republic is straight out of the transition of the Roman Republic into an Empire, but it doesn't show any of the complexities of that situation and just plays Caesar as a completely power-mad tyrant.

It's wrong to teach people to think in such black and white terms.

          >but it doesn't show any of the complexities of that situation

No, it only showed shallow complexity. As in the technical details of the conflict like it being about trade taxation and the senate being locked in procedural minutia. But Palps was just controlling the whole thing and the Nemoidians were simply pathetic and greedy.

The only real complexity comes when Padme decides to say frick the senate and go free the planet herself, but then in the next movies she's the postergirl of the true Republic in opposition to Palpatine. If after TPM she was actually opposed to the Republic and supported a secessionist movement, that's more complex.
