i remember this movie seeming heartfelt as a child
but it is absurd as an adult
you can't let a moron take care of a kid and the movie's justification is that she's a smart kid and basically takes care of herself
i do think it is important to keep families together whenever possible.
a good story would have been them fundraising money to hire someone who can take care of both the tard and the kid.
The antagonists of the movie were actually correct. Visitation is fine but he was not fit to be a full-time parent, and all the court battle did was make things more painful for everyone.
