It's X-Men. Cinemaphile will just claim they made it "woke" while pretending to understand the source.

Are you one of those people who pretends "woke" doesn't exist, or that there's no separation between "sensible civil rights allegory" and "modern wokeslop"? On 4chins? Jesus.

          Anonymous

"Modern wokeslop" is just the natural evolution of "sensible civil rights allegory".

            Anonymous

Modern wokeslop is the hamfisted, middle school writer's workshop version. It's spiritually the same as "very special episode" after school special writing, but being executed by upjumped fanfic writers.

I've been watching and more or less every episode so far has a scene where the show stops for one of the X-Men, usually Storm, to give a 'bigotry bad" speech.

I mean the original. It's obnoxious the reboot can't be anymore hamfisted.

X-Men as a metaphor for racism was fine. It's a good message that you should not hate people for immutable traits they are born with. It's largely a problem that has been solved at this point, however - generally no one is not getting hired purely because they are black, no one has crosses burned on their lawn for dating interracially, etc. Black people still have problems but they are not due to currently existing prejudice. It's okay to keep the racism metaphor as a reminder that we should not hate people for inborn traits. However, Claremont never intended for mutants to be a metaphor for every identity issue. He didn't intend for them to represent homosexuals, never mind transgenderism, etc. The metaphors don't really work either. Like with transgenderism the closest analogy would be humans who declare themselves to be 'trans mutants' and tape laser beams to their glasses or kitchen knives to their hands. A la the U-Men in the X-Men anime.

          >we should not hate people for inborn traits

Those "traits" are just a heads up that you're probably dealing with a violent, impulsive, low-iq animal.

Makes it an even better allegory for muties then.

          >generally no one is not getting hired purely because they are black

No it's not solved because now people are not getting hired because they are white.

And mutants are a bad metaphor for diversity hires because their powers could be used to be overqualified. Like superstrength getting someone a job at construction.

Mutants were always a terrible metaphor. A black person is a person who happens to be black. A mutant is a person who can strip away your free will, or accidentally level a city and kill a million people because his glasses came off.

How does a legal system function in a world where literally anyone can say "it wasn't me, I was being mind controlled" and there's every possibility that they really were? There'd be reasonable doubt in every case. What happens when Ed Gein is born with Storm's powers and can wreck the climate forever?

Hating mutants is 100% sane and logical if you think about them for more than ten seconds.

I don't know why they do this. They've been trying to align comics and not-comics portrayals of their IP for three decades now, and the only result has been a constant and consistent downward spiral of comic sales. The average fan doesn't care if it aligns to the modern comics or not, because the average fan doesn't read modern comics anymore. Even people with a graphic novel shelf in their home are largely leaving the industry behind.

You're probably right, I just don't get why.

The Killgrave episode was really funny and sad in 2023.

                >Killgrave is tired of being oppressed

                >Adopts orphan mutants
                >Ties him up in his dungeon and and grooms/brainwashes them

white male leads will all be side lined and written as weaklings and idiots so that women/minorites look extra competent.
the show will mostly focus on the old women taking over as leaders and leading a new group of only non white and female mutants.
white mens will only be there to be resuced or beaten up by women, sexually explited and to be humiliated for cheap jokes at their expense.
