X-Men can't work in the MCU

It makes no sense. Why would the world love other superheroes but for some reason hate mutants? Why not just let the franchise rest with Logan?

I agree. In fact I think the only mutants in the MCU should be Deadpool and X-23 to wrap up their storylines and only semi-canon (no influence on the major plot arcs whatever they turn out to be).
Then reboot the X-men as it's own thing.

Capeshit has been around since 1939. There are comics out there about everything, it's just that capeshit is the blockbuster of the genre.

Inclined to agree but in a world where inhibitors collars, telepathic blacks and the like are a thing, you don't want a heroine who jobs because she can't fight street level either. She should at least be toned, though not overboard like that.

Mutants aren't all heroes, some are villains, some want to live regular lives despite not looking or acting regular. An Avenger just beats up bad guys, then mostly goes back to having a regular human life. A mutant 14 year old from the house next door unknowingly possesses your body and accidentally causes massive damage and trauma. The first Fox movie did a good job showing how mutants are an epidemic plaguing communities around the world

Stan Liebowitz wanted them to be an analog to his kinsmen pushing foreigners on Americans after Kennedy's assassination.

It doesn't work because mutants are humans + superpowers. They would have the greatest upward mobility, be admired and praised.

The analogy's predicated on the lie preferences are arbitrary and baseless. That to suppress or invert one's instinctive antipathy towards an invader is enlightenment. This's a lie Jack Kirby and R Crumb sorts tell.

Superheroes are government approved, while X-Men just pop out without control of their powers. Since most of them are teens, they are basically school shooters.

Pic is civil war starting point in comics, a bunch of teenage wannabe heroes try to take a minor villain, the guy explodes and take a whole town with him.

Indeed, I should have paraphrased better, I meant msm/industrial complex/goverment approvied. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, you can't touch these guys for a number of reasons. Spider-man is your average joe and gets a lot of shit, specially cause of the Daily Bugle. Lot of people see him as a menace, same with minor heroes like Ghost Rider, Daredevil or crazy shit like the Hulk. Fantastic Four, Alpha Flight and Avengers are pretty much the only public approved heroes, everyone else is an abomination.

Also most of mutants look like monsters, even among the X-Men, or can't properly control their powers, like Cyclops. That's is cause of concern to everyone.

It would might work if they led with all the freaks with absolutely useless mutations, like a leg growing out of their shoulder, the ability to determine what a person ate 5 days ago from sniffing a fart, or pubes that grow at Rapunzel speeds.
Make it known that that’s 99.95% of all mutants, then the 0.05% identifying with them even though they have useful mutations - superpowers even - might just wear a believable freak tarring.

They don't care about how most supers exist because it doesn't involve the chance their kids will be born with random powers, or go to school with others that do. And other supers aren't going to replace the human race.
This is so easy to explain that it's really NOT an issue.

  15. 2 years ago

Fun fact there's a running joke in marvel comics that some civilians think Spider-Man is a mutant

  16. 2 years ago

Humans hate mutants because it's evidence that they are not the superior race anymore. Seeing a mutant child be born proves to humans that no matter what they'll always be less than a mutant at a fundamental level. They can live vicariously through Stark or Rogers knowing that they are part of the same race because they rose to their super status through human intellect but the rise of mutantkind is evidence that humans are inherently defective and will eventually be obsolete due to their inferior genetics.

If I was going to introduce the X-Men to the MCU, I would establish that they have been around for decades and Professor X has been using his powers to erase people's memory of mutants. Then have Prof. X temporarily taken out of commission while Magento tries to take over the world, foiled by the X-Men.

This would then leave people with very mixed feelings about mutants and mark them as distinct from heroes like the Avengers.

in the MCU everyone loves the Avengers and treats them like celebrities, that's actually more of a Justice League thing. Avengers used to be C listers nobody gave a shit about. Spiderman and X men were the A list and the general public thought of them as a menace. It worked back then in the comics but not anymore.

Capeshit is stupid anon, even the civil rights analogy is moronic. It was supposed to be an analogy to civil rights in the comics, and gay people in the movies. Which is nonsensical because what can one black or gay person do, they are just people, politics aside, the individual physical power they hold is within human range. Now take someoje like Iceman, the guy could cause havoc to a whole city by himself if ever wanted to, look at cyclops, same shit, Magneto, even worse. Its a shit analogy because gays and blacks were doing civil rights movements, one single bad mutant on the other hand is a national security problem.

Why do people celebrate soldiers, fireman, etc. but still discriminate against them if they're minorities?
Besides which, most superheroes are normal humans who've been "gifted" in some way, where mutants are seen as something other than human. Even then. look how the average man on the street reacts to someone like The thing at first sight.

  26. 2 years ago
    Anonymous

Easy. Make a distinction that other heroes have full control of their superpowers. Mutants on the other hand mostly do not. Which is why they need to go to Xavier’s school in the first place. They need to learn how to control their powers. Meanwhile someone like Spider-Man has full control of his powers, so he isn’t seen as dangerous as Cyclops who could blast a room full of people just because his sunglasses falls off his face.

marvel tv was laying the groundwork for years. people like the avengers as an idea, but in reality, they're scared shitless of people with powers.

mcu movies are written by children, so no one needs a secret identity, and all supers are loved.
