>Yasuhiko: In the 1980s, Hideaki Anno and Katsuhiro Otomo started making animation, and Miyazaki anime became the national anime. Seeing that situation, I thought "there's no place for me," and retired from anime.
Why couldn't Tomino be humbled like this and instead made incredibly shitty anime through the 90s?
Even Anno eventually realized he is a hack.
>"If we compare according to the current moment, then perhaps I am capable of creating more interesting works than [the current] Tomino-san." - Hideaki Anno, 2002
Ape Out Shirt $21.68 |
Victory was his last good anime tbqh.
>Victory
hilariously shitty show people only like ironically
But V is better than your favorite anime
v was so bad it gave tomino depression
v was so good anno called it one of the best early 90's anime & tomino changed his mind about it admitting he was wrong. It also inspired Anno not to allow eva to be sponsored by a toy company..
Victory and Turn A are good.
>Anno
what interesting work did he produce after from 2002 onward?
he shat out trash like cutie honey and rebuilds
you are moronic, higher ups have the final say, they just don't care about contents of the show most of the time. They only care about sales.
>higher ups have the final say
>they just don't care about contents of the show most of the time
You're contradicting yourself.
Also, you're wrong. Tomino created the franchise. He has a degree of seniority and trust from the studio and network executives that not many directors could ever have.
>Turn A Gundam was broadcast on Fuji TV and according to many sources, it averaged a TV rating of 2.99%. This is higher than Gundam X‘s average after the timeslot change (1.21%), but lower than Victory Gundam (3.89%), G Gundam (4.11%), and Gundam Wing‘s (4.25%) averages.
>Fuji TV producers Kenji Shimizu and Yoshihiro Suzuki allowed it to air as-is despite the ratings, because they liked Tomino & Gundam and wanted the director to do as he pleased
Part of maintaining a business is keeping your employees happy, so I suppose giving them free reign on a show if they've proved to be commercially succesful before isn't unheard of. I remember disney did this with the director/writers that wanted to do Treasure Planet, they allowed them to the movie after finishing other projects the studio thought would sell better.
>Treasure Planet
You are aware that you can't mention that movie anywhere on Cinemaphile, right?
Don't see why that'd be the case, there've been multiple threads about it over the years.
You don't know? You honestly don't know?
Lol yeah I remember that, but if you wanted to post it you could've just done that without acting like a homosexual.
Honestly, I thought you'd post DisneyFan-01 or whatever the username was of that woman that made an OC to marry John Silver.
Never forget the laughing shoes
They let the show go on because it was anniversary project and Tomino's return to franchise after hiatus. He wanted the show to be run for 100 episodes but had to settle for 50 cause studio declined.
>what interesting work did he produce after from 2002 onward?
Shin trilogy is good
This is a worthless troll thread, so let's unpack.
1. Yasuhiko went from animation to manga because book publishing pays more. Even for a director, salaries in the industry are meager. And the economy was in downturn in the early 90s, so extravagant projects like Venus Wars or Giant Gorg were no more.
2. Tomino's psyche is a giant mess. While Victory utterly broke him, the man cannot stop working, even if his ramblings are garbage. The worst part is that, given his status on Sunrise, the higher-ups will not put anyone to filter his ideas, as Reconquista clearly proved.
3. Both Yas and Anno went back to the director's chair eventually, with the latter doing some pretty good tokusatsu movies.
Stop biting the bait. Just ignore it. Attention is what he wants.
You're still crying?

Korea is third world to you?
Koreans have no soul.
I assumed OP was from south america
Not really sure why you think Yas giving up is something to be admired. It's pathetic and sad.
He gave up on the animation industry because there's no $$$ there unless you work for Ghibli. Instead, he made a decent, successful second career as a mangaka.
Because Tomino is a tenacious old weirdo and that is what makes him so likeable and what helps his stuff be fun
