It's low key making fun of the soapy television shows of that era (1990ish). It blends supernatural sci-fi with several other elements. It's cozy and white, and the FBI are the good guys as opposed to present reality.
I understand both what he was doing and how he was parodying soaps at the same time.
Calling him a wrong millennial doesn't make you right. In fact, you didn't offer an alternative explanation. I don't think you know "what he was doing".
Making fun is the wrong word but he was making a commentary on the duality of modern society. Being so wholesome and corny yet with massively seedy and evil undertones
That's why she is murdered. She's like the homecoming queen and is actually a prostitute who gets murdered.
It's pretty fricked up and true. And the style of sortve a generic soapy show that has a wholesome digestible element while being a very troubling murder mystery symbolises that
According to the self declared intelligent anon here, this isn't a parodying statement and not supposed to be funny at all. It's serious. He literally has lots of white friends. Why would you laugh at this increasingly realistic show? It's beyond my imagination.
Why does everyone keep saying it’s a parody? It wasn’t a parody. It’s just a soap opera touching on shit most soap operas didn’t touch on at the time. This parody shit is such copium.
Also just cause something is a parody doesn't excuse it being bad. Being bad on purpose is still being bad. You seriously can't tell me that everything involving the mill and all those characters involving the asian chick are boring and cringe on purpose and that I'm supposed to enjoy falling asleep watching it
The ONLY good parts of the show are the core mystery and the Audrey Cooper romance. Everything else is pointless and gay
>Not parody
Never said it was. It's meta. It flirts with the 4th wall in it's own unique way. It's a television show within a television show wrapped in layers of alternate reality. This becomes even more evident in season 3. Audrey's dance ends with a bar fight then Audrey flipping the frick out before slipping out of "reality" into an empty room screaming into a (dressing room?) mirror (her story ended).
what is it if it's not a parody? you're telling me it's a soap opera like any other, while most people can tell it's not like any other..
this is getting to the point where you're claiming those paintings of solid color is more than just that. at some point nobody really cares, it's a parody. there are no "layers" or "subtleties", just emperor's new clothes level of depth.
It's not making fun of them, that's just your terminal millennial brain completely unable to understand what Lynch was doing.
You're both wrong. I doubt he felt anything either way about that format. The supernatural shit doesn't serve as that much of a subversion. Plus, this implies a close-minded view of Lynch's style if you think it's just le weird nonsense out of nowhere.
The original two seasons are good. I can't get through the 2017 season though. I just get the feeling that Lynch has no idea what he's trying to say and is just wasting time with pretentious shit. So I shut it off around 10 episodes in. I've tried twice and given up both times because of how much it drags and wastes the viewers time.
Yeah pretty much. Although I'd argue the last few episodes of Season 2 are all great, not just the finale. Like the chart says, do not skip the bad episodes, the rest of the story will not make sense to you
Holy shit dude that's why this is so moronic?
I'm literally in the middle of my first ever watch and I cant get over how bad the show has gotten post mid s2.
The dropped Audrey romance is just awful writing
She saves his life with those pictures, she literally kisses him, they dance together, then they never talk again and all of a sudden Audrey is with this new guy that just shows up. That's just fricking awful
And you're telling me that it's because the actor's gf got jealous?? They literally ruined the show over some dumb b***h's feelings?? Fricking morons holy shit man
How do you drop the ball so hard?
I'm fricking pissed.
I literally don't even care about the rest of the show anymore. It ended at the midpoint of s2
The rest is not canon
Audrey and Cooper get together and have babies. THAT'S canon.
Frick you
Nah it worked out for the best. Cooper fricking a high school student was a moronic idea.
Wrong! It's a based idea and literally the ONLY thing coop did wrong in the entire show was refuse her prime, virgin pussy. She literally served it to him on a silver platter and he went full >SHE'S ONLY 18 YOU SICK FRICK
on her. Cringe
Should've slammed her seven ways from Sunday and put a bunch of lil' coops in her barn. She was BEGGING to be breed by him.
I just checked
That's the actress who played donna
So those two were dating in real life and she got jealous because cooper was planned to end up with Audrey instead of her. They didnt even end up marrying or anything after the show. This is just plain moronic
Exactly. And she got bogged and fugly and disappeared. Wasn't worth it, Coop, wasn't worth it at all.

I just looked at some pics and Audrey pretty much smashed through the wall and still looks pretty good for being almost 60
Didnt look up donna

Don't look up Boyle it's gore. But haven't you seen Season 3? Audrey is in it.

I havent even finished 2
I have like 4 more episodes
I said before in this thread
As far as I'm concerned the show ended with the midpoint reveal of s2. I don't give a hoot about the rest but I may as well finish it. Learning that audrey and coop dont complete the romance pretty much killed any interest I had remaining
First season was comfy enough. 2nd season I heard is awful so not having the patience for that sit-through. Not sure of third season. Pic related is the perfect dish for a great viewing experience.
I like Lynch's movies but this one Lynched me, I watched till early season 2, it was months ago so should I watch a summary and pick up from there or start from the beginning?
I've tried to watch this like 5 times and I can't get past the second episode. I've tried it just doesn't hold my interest at all. On paper it seems like it should and I'm not a zoomer.
The Fireman is Lynch and Dido is Frost. The idea of Laura Palmer comes from the Fireman's mind and forms a golden orb. Dido then directs it towards the projector screen where it enters into the world. They are in a structure on top of the giant ocean which is the ocean of subconsciousness (as stated by Lynch himself in interviews) and that is where their conscious minds live.
I really don't get how people have trouble "getting" David Lynches work. I feel like he is the most accessible honest unpretentious arthouse director. Him being the first arthouse director I watched actually gave me unrealistic expectations of what the typical arthouse movie is. While Davids movies can be enjoyed just at face value for the visuals and mood a lot of the arthouse movies I've seen are boring and feel like a school assignment where I have to pay attention to everything and afterwards analyse what I've seen instead of just enjoying the movie.
>be donna >betray your best friend by falling in love with her boyfriend >her boyfriend then thinks he falls in love with your best friends cousin who happens to look exactly like her >forgive him for this >then he runs off and leaves you alone after begging him to stay. He LITERALLY KNOWS that there is a serial killer on the loose that just killed two(attempted a third) women donna's age >he still leaves >shortly after this almost get murdered by your best friend's dad >weird how no one was there to protect you, but whatever >then your boyfriend almost gets framed for killing the husband of some bawd that seduced him >forgive him for this, too >let him run off to mexico like a coward running away from his feeling and problems
Is donna the ultimate moron, bros?
Oh yeah, also I forgot she drove an incel to suicide because she wasnt patient with him and wanted to read laura's diary right away instead of convincing him that if he turned it over they might be able to catch the killer
Oh yeah also she reveals that she stripped naked infront of 3 men when she was 14 and that was the first time she "fell in love"

It's not making fun of them, that's just your terminal millennial brain completely unable to understand what Lynch was doing.
When you parody something you're essentially making fun of it moron
No, wrong again.
moron with not a single original opinion.
Even Lynch agrees the rest of season 2(he stopped working on it at that point and only returned for the finale) sucks
Lynch doesn’t like anything except the pilot, and FWWM onward
>your opinion is unoriginal therefore it is bad
You'll never get to frick any of the cute girls on the show. You don't have to defend it
I understand both what he was doing and how he was parodying soaps at the same time.
Calling him a wrong millennial doesn't make you right. In fact, you didn't offer an alternative explanation. I don't think you know "what he was doing".

She was only a prostitute because she was molested by her dad her whole life tho
Wow I just realised there's not a single non white character is there? Apart from extras
You’re forgetting someone
According to the self declared intelligent anon here, this isn't a parodying statement and not supposed to be funny at all. It's serious. He literally has lots of white friends. Why would you laugh at this increasingly realistic show? It's beyond my imagination.
It’s a joke because lucy’s sister is an annoying white liberal trying to make Hawk into a victim
1 Asian woman and 1 Indian man. Very white still.
Why does everyone keep saying it’s a parody? It wasn’t a parody. It’s just a soap opera touching on shit most soap operas didn’t touch on at the time. This parody shit is such copium.

The ONLY good parts of the show are the core mystery and the Audrey Cooper romance. Everything else is pointless and gay
Is it the story of the little girl who lived down the lane?
>Not parody
Never said it was. It's meta. It flirts with the 4th wall in it's own unique way. It's a television show within a television show wrapped in layers of alternate reality. >reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Yes yes anon we know "reeeeee"
what is it if it's not a parody? you're telling me it's a soap opera like any other, while most people can tell it's not like any other..

Which soaps? Should I get into those too?
I'm on S1E7. I keep waiting for it to get good while the lexicon agrees it gets worse than this.
You're both wrong. I doubt he felt anything either way about that format. The supernatural shit doesn't serve as that much of a subversion. Plus, this implies a close-minded view of Lynch's style if you think it's just le weird nonsense out of nowhere.

Your not mentioning FWWM speaks volumes. You skipped from D to Z.
I liked that too. Didn't help with the 2017 season though.
As far as I'm concerned the show ends when the murder plot finishes mid season 2. Everything is after is godawful
Agree.
Same, one of Bob Iger's better decisions.
It’s pure kino
Is this accurate?
Yeah pretty much. Although I'd argue the last few episodes of Season 2 are all great, not just the finale. Like the chart says, do not skip the bad episodes, the rest of the story will not make sense to you
Kyle truly dropped the ball there for fricking up the Audrey romance. And for what, Lara Flynn Boyle? Kek, sad kek.
Nah it worked out for the best. Cooper fricking a high school student was a moronic idea.
Lynched. It would have been the epitome of television.
Lame. It would have made it a masterpiece.
For Heather Graham actually. A pretty even swap if you ask me.
That's why I'm looking forward to the second half of Season 2, peak Heather Graham.
Oh yeah I am marathoning the entire series right now, just got to Season 2.
No, it isn't. Annie was shoehorned in, it was forced cringe.
>introduce a new character a few episodes before the end of the show
Has this EVER worked? Ever?
>checks Frasier, the greatest TV show of all time
No. No it has not.
Holy shit dude that's why this is so moronic?
I'm literally in the middle of my first ever watch and I cant get over how bad the show has gotten post mid s2.

Well, they do have a baby, sort of.
But yeah.
Who is lara flynn boyle?
Wrong! It's a based idea and literally the ONLY thing coop did wrong in the entire show was refuse her prime, virgin pussy. She literally served it to him on a silver platter and he went full

update for season 3 please
all of s3 is worth watching.
The white supremacy itt is disgusting. I will wait for the multiracial Amazon Prime remake.
Holy shit don't give them ideas!
Is Peyton place any good? They say it's the biggest twin peaks inspiration
First season was comfy enough. 2nd season I heard is awful so not having the patience for that sit-through. Not sure of third season. Pic related is the perfect dish for a great viewing experience.
The Return is peak Twin Peaks
Dale Cooper is the greatest fictional character of all time, unironically
>I don't get it
At least you admit you're an uncultured idiot.
Fpbp
It's not... about... the bunny. Wait... Is it about the bunny? No. No, it's not about the bunny.

you have to watch in it's intended era and purpose you philistine
Yeah let me just go back in time to the 90s to watch it

Never liked Donna. She always reminded me of the dude from the movie Mask.

FWWM Donna is best Donna. Different actress.
I just want more comfy pre 2000s shows like this to watch.
