And right after that is when the whole crash sequence gets going IIRC so it's kind of a perfect demarcation between the harlequin romance first half and disaster-thriller second half.

I avoided it for years because it was seen as a movie for teenager girls, some I knew who went to theaters 4+ times to see it.. I finally secretly rented it from blockbuster. I loved it.
Same. Recently just watched it again (because of the missing sub) expecting to hate it, hadn’t watch it since I was a little kid and they showed it on tv. Not only I loved it but it made me cry like 3 times.
I love Aliens but this is Camerons opus.
Yeah that while montage with the sad music is rough, and the chaos with the guy killing himself
Also, when Rose leaped back into the ship from the boat to be with Jack, yes, I’m a fricking homosexual
I still maintain that the back half is a masterfully crafted, legitimately exciting disaster/action movie on its own. I'm not going to be a cynical c**t and say there should never have been a sappy romance at the heart of it all, but if that part had been more smartly handled the whole movie would've been far more cohesive and watchable. Cameron is a very poor dramatic writer when he does it alone, but someone else could've made it work.
this was no different than any soap opera i've seen other than the brief flash of ONE titty
if she showed both breasts at the same time, would that have increased the rating?
My cousin went and watched it 3 or 4 times, she got this Titanic poster with Leo and Kate hugging, and she took a pair of scissors and cut Kate's face out and just kept Leo. Also we had to book tickets like 10 days in advance cause everything was packed.
I remember turning around and watching people crying when Kate realizes Leo is dead tells him never let go and he sinks into the Abyss.
The thing I most remember about this movie as a child is not the movie itself but the 30 sec bunny version kek

no passenger would have seen the iceberg or heard it properly, so inside it probably did sound like a bomb. it's the same with car mufflers sounding like glocks.
They struck the iceberg at night when most passengers would've been asleep, the ship then traveled for several miles before stopping so it would've been out of sight given there was no moonlight that night
i watch the 2nd half from time to time
everyone watches the titty and sinking scenes
What’s the point if you don’t get any character development?
oviously you think i'm a big sissy. and a poor leader
wtf an actual woman on Cinemaphile?
Always has been
But do you know the truth?
>cameron repeating the ismay slander on the telly the other day
he just doesn't learn.
He's been at it for decades. Jim's never gonna stop.
There was a moron here yesterday who believed Jack and Rose and everything they did was based on a true story.
don't be so harsh on yourself, anon. we all learn from our mistakes.
It wasn't me, his only reason for thinking it was a true story was "women are prostitutes"
>It wasn't me
telltale sign it was you
>his only reason for thinking it was a true story was "women are prostitutes"
No. The overlong sinking part isn't worth sitting through the painfully generic love story
I remember the VHS release was split between two tapes so you could watch the second half without having to sit through the first.
And the split was right after the sex car scene, if I recall correctly.
And right after that is when the whole crash sequence gets going IIRC so it's kind of a perfect demarcation between the harlequin romance first half and disaster-thriller second half.
>boat splits in 2
>movie split on 2 tapes
bravo, cameron
I though it switched right after the collision
Yes it's worth.
The nude scene gave me my first ever boner

Old couple in bed with the ship sinking?
Gentlemen it's been a pleasure?

>yes, I’m a fricking homosexual
everyone here has a movie that does this to them, don't worry.

coward
One of Mr. Plinkett's best reviews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHiceVim9Wg
Agreed. He points out that the film is a technical masterpiece whose only fault is a terrible script and terrible performances from the two leads.
I still maintain that the back half is a masterfully crafted, legitimately exciting disaster/action movie on its own. I'm not going to be a cynical c**t and say there should never have been a sappy romance at the heart of it all, but if that part had been more smartly handled the whole movie would've been far more cohesive and watchable. it is good, I was into it the whole time
help me i am under the water
You are now aware Rose and Jack were “““““““in love”””””” for only 4 days.
Remember when 400mil was considered a lot, lol
It still is if you don't waste $400 million on shitty cgi. Men in Black cost $90 million to make. Lost World cost $73 million.
I think what kept it going were women that went to the theathers many times to rewatch it, I remember the news saying that
it was quite the phenomenon
Avatar was basically a repeat of this phenomenon but with male nerds
Everybody was seeing it multiple times. I saw it in theaters twice and I way an 8 year old boy.
I remember people going apeshit when the LOTRs almost broke 400
i'd still rather watch Batman And Robin over anything there.
Watching right now too, first time in probably 20 years. they're boarding now
I prefer the German original
What makes this a Kino Video?
Do they blame the perfidious Anglo?
the sinking is kino, rest is girly trash.
Anyone want to have a watch party stream thing?
No I'm not going to set it up, just enjoy the fruits of someone else's labour.
That sounds fun af
What website is good for that?
I'm in
ROBERT, FIRE UP THE KINOPLEX. IT IS FRIDAY AFTER ALL.
MAKE IT HAPPEN YOU homosexualS
Robert, please come home.
Interesting. The girl slipped so suddenly but you had time to remove your jacket and shoes.
best part of the film. played exactly perfectly
qrd?
new money
fat people are unsinkable
Um, yeah, she was a little someone called THE UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN!
this was no different than any soap opera i've seen other than the brief flash of ONE titty
if she showed both breasts at the same time, would that have increased the rating?
have sex

This reminds me, there’s evidently some scuttlebutt about a missing sub and the titanic? Anyone else hear about this?
dunno what you're on about lad, no such event took place earlier this week
The thing I most remember about this movie as a child is not the movie itself but the 30 sec bunny version kek

None of the survivors mention an iceberg anywhere in their accounts. They do mention the ship sinking because of an explosion though.
no passenger would have seen the iceberg or heard it properly, so inside it probably did sound like a bomb. it's the same with car mufflers sounding like glocks.
They struck the iceberg at night when most passengers would've been asleep, the ship then traveled for several miles before stopping so it would've been out of sight given there was no moonlight that night
Could the Capitain have pulled a u-ey and let the passengers off on the iceberg, or sailed toward or in front of the California?
no
-50,000 social credit score for asking a dumb question
It’s so fricking good.
>imdb rating 7.9 heading to 8
damn, I remember it like 10 years ago being at 7.4 or something.
James Cameron, he does it again.
only midwits hated it when it came out
avatar is still crap though
people pretended to hate it in the early 00s, because it was cool to hate it, it was so popular.
I came here for submarine jokes not discussion about the actual movie. Forget this. Hopefully there's an Oz thread on the go.
Now James Cameron can make a sequel..
why are you guys old
Spoilers!
Now I know what happens why watch it?
