It's a vibe. Basically it's kino until the last act (you'll know exactly what I'm talking about).
Batman looks a bit goofy at times. But as a whole it just looks and sounds amazing.
Its biggest flaw was its reluctance to have Batman be overly violent. He's supposed to be raw and unhinged but he spends the entire film talking about how killing wrong

It would've made a descent detective kino if they just removed all the capeshit and made it more like se7en or something.

One of the biggest problems for me is that its a detective movie with no real mystery because as the audience you know who the killer is the entire time.

Se7en already exists and it sucks
It should have cut out out all the muh mystery bullcrap and just been Year One

That's not fair either: sure, we know that Edward Nigma is the one doing the killing, but why? And who, for that matter?

Two thirds of a passable Batman film. It’s about an hour longer than it needed to be.

Imo it had incredible pacing/tone for the first ~20 minutes or so but they legit ruin the movie when they introduce cat Women and it goes downhill FAST afterword's. The character was cum-bait for lonely nerdy males in the comic books and they try to stretch her into a deep and interesting character that she simply is not. I don't mind her being in the movie per se but she did not need such a prevalent role and her scenes destroy the pacing. There are so many more interesting female villain's in the Batman universe they could have explored but they shoehorned her in and it felt really fake and forced.

It also doesn't help they turned the Riddler into a legit alt-right incel. The Riddler is a literary genius who uses his intellect to creates games of whimsical violence and chaos and I felt like they made him too 'modern' and realistic, just like what Nolan did with the Joker, which is a general complaint I have with all comic book movies today. What ever happened to them creating new worlds for me to escape to and being true to the characters? Now they shoot everything on-site and there is minimal production design and world creation these days, they alter characters to suit modern conceit and ethos, so much so that they barely resemble themselves in the end. Besides the 'Riddles', Dano's character was NOT the Riddler. Say what you want about the Tim Burton Batmans but at least he created worlds we could travel to and escape in. These modern super hero movies are too realistic by comparison and too 'here and now', and generally try too hard to make false philosophic political statements.

I do still think it's worth the watch because it does have it's moments. Ferrell's Penguin is a great example of proper portrayal and interpretation of a character: He is still 'the Penguin' as he was originally conceived but he makes it unique, personal, and his own. He's probably my highlight of the movie.

looks like you were filtered by what i thought was pretty straightforward writing. catwoman is there to challenge bruce and force him to see things from a different perspective (literally through her eyes). i could go into more detail on why you are wrong and clearly didn't pay attention to the film, but i wouldn't expect much from someone who cares more about style over substance

It's been a while since I saw it, but I didn't get that impression. I thought it was really confused writing and bogged down the energy and pacing of the opening sequences, which were really fantastic. Bruce was in an orphan too who saw his parents murdered, so I fail to understand what realities she opens his eyes to. He even mocks her at the end for only being in it for herself and the money. If you got something out of the character great, but I didn't and felt her inclusion lengthened the movie unnecessarily (a common complaint with most people, of which her character was most guilty) and her use in advancing the plot could have been done without her. We don't have to agree that it was good writing.

One of the basic requirements for character studies is nuanced and multifaceted characters. I didn't see any in The Batman but hey, maybe that's just me.

And I actually gave an example of the awful writing in this movie. It's hilariously bad. "Even with the rain." Who talks like that? And "The city is under the water." These sound like a 5 year old wrote them.

The writing is hilarious, but it's a fun movie. Good cinematography. The whole al rata alada thing was fricking stupid, especially since this batman is supposed to be a "master detective".

The first two acts were solid, right until Riddler was caught. Everything after the titledrop was extremely disappointing. The third act fight sequence was unnecessary and obviously added during reshoots.

To me, the final action scene felt like they made a detective thriller movie but knew that ultimately they were still capeshit and people would feel dissatisfied if the ending wasn't a big action set piece, even though it was out of place.

Shit movie. Good performances, cinematography and stunt work.
I feel like there's a good movie hidden under all that shit script bloat. Except for Riddler. That character kind of ruins the movie. I like Dano and he does what he can with the material, but the take on the character is shit and cringe.
The B-plot about Carmine and the Penguin was better.
