You ever think about leaving?

You ever think about leaving Cinemaphile and other related hobbies because nerds are the worst?

Like do you ever just get tired of it?

Just the needless arguing and one upping? The obsessing? Being hateful to each other?

Like you can research stuff and actually know your shit. And dorks will still argue with you and be smug.

Example. Black suit spiderman. Was talking with a guy at work about him. I pointed out that blacksuit spiderman was to sell toys. He was debuted in Secret Wars, which was a series made as part of a contract with Mattel to make the secret wars action figures. In a funny twist, between wave 1 and 2 of the figures, Marvel also got hasbro to allow black suit spiderman into the transformers comic, which was also to sell toys, because the black suit figure hadn't been made yet, not putting hasbro at odds with mattel. Then Mattel released the second wave of SW figures with black suit spiderman and spiderman would never be shown in a marvel transformers comic again.

This is all easy to find info. The wiki page for secret wars points out that the comic was crafted to sell toys. The wiki page for secret wars toys details the agreement. The wiki page for spiderman in the TF comic talks about how marvel licensed the character to hasbro before mattel made the figure.

bruh just hand waves it as "eh, everyone got new looks that year. I don't think it had anything to do with toys."

It gets exhausting. There is nothing some nerds will not argue about. Like bro, just shut up. You don't know. You don't have to give your opinion.

I'm a nerd, but not an insufferable nerd. I didn't argue with the guy. I just let him have his opinion and changed the topic.

Yeah I am tired of autists like you op who can only think in a straight line.

Yes it helped sell.toys, but it was also to make the story more exciting. You are the one trying to one up your friend.

"The black costume originated in 1982 from an idea submitted by 22-year-old fan Randy Schueller, after Marvel ran a competition for aspiring writers and artists to elicit new ideas for the Marvel Universe."

See you are a fricking autist who cannot.accept.that things can happen for multiple.reasons.

But you will probably try to argue over this even though the wiki says that you are wrong because you are autistic and cannot accept that you are wrong.

The more you know about something the more exhausting it becomes to discuss with others. I tend to just stay out of threads that pertain to subjects I'm a turbo autist in.

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Wars_(toy_line)

"Some of Mattel's choices for the toy line impacted the look and direction of Marvel's superhero characters. Shooter introduced the idea of a new, black costume for Spider-Man,[3] which was not intended to last for long, but Mattel was very enthusiastic, because it allowed them to sell two versions of the same toy.[1] The "alien costume" was revealed in The Amazing Spider-Man to be a living creature, who separated from Spider-Man to become a new character, Venom."

"The line was a reaction to DC Comics' 1984 deal with Kenner Products for the Super Powers Collection. Mattel, concerned about losing the DC account to Kenner, made a similar deal with Marvel. Mattel's request was that the line would be supported with an event comic book that included the words "secret" and "wars", which Mattel's market research found worked particularly well with children in focus groups."

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_Wars

"Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars, commonly known as Secret Wars, is a 12-issue American comic book crossover limited series published from May 1984 to April 1985 by Marvel Comics. The series was written by Jim Shooter, with art by Mike Zeck and Bob Layton. It was tied in with a toy line and a role-playing game of the same name from Mattel."

      https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Spider-Man

"When Marvel approached Hasbro about the prospect of including Spider-Man in the third issue of the Transformers comic book, they initially turned the idea down, since Spider-Man was currently licensed to rival toy company Mattel for the Secret Wars toy line. Marvel convinced them to permit the appearance by putting Spidey in his black costume, whereas the Secret Wars toy was clad in his traditional red and blue, and therefore wouldn't be "advertised" by the comic.[4] "

Even if some kid came up with it, it was approved and used to sell toys

have you read anything in this thread, mother fricker?

What about " "eh, everyone got new looks that year. I don't think it had anything to do with toys." is right?

Did you read your own link? Randy Schueller's idea for the suit was never used, just the idea that it was black. Shooter then sat on it for 2 years until he pitched it to Mattel who liked it because they could sell the same figure twice.

Everyone is just a bot who clings on to the first piece of information they find and repeats it constantly like it is interesting while providing no real insight. You repeated your "fact" why? Did you want a cookie? Someone disagreed and then you got upset about it enough to comment on it here rather than getting over it. And here I am commenting on it in a meta way as if I am not also engaged in pointless revelry. We are all engaged in pointless shit. Repeating pointless shit. The people who just blindly enjoy shit are truly the enlightened ones because they don't have to engage in this attempt at discussion that really is just the parroting of other shit to momentarily feel clever or feel something.

"Good" threads tend to be people just agreeing they like x or y. No real insight or analysis. Every other thread is just the same, trolling or misunderstanding all descending down. I have seen nothing original. I could go into every ATLA thread right now and do a checklist bingo of what opinions people will have. All hobbies are slowly regressing into solitary pursuits because of this.

The only good conversations I have are in passing with some people at my LCS who actually understand how to "shoot the shit" without getting upset or making everything a debate. And it is really fricking tiresome that this is the case. Otherwise you'll just have to listen to someone's opinion that is taken from some Youtuber.

You're pointless, they are pointless, I'm pointless. But here we are.

No, but I do think about leaving comics because comics are the worst. Nerds are fine, some of my best friends are nerds in fact.

Comics though - there just doesn't seem to be any sign that they're ever getting better.

they are pretty bad. I was reading that joker generation white knight comic and the story and art was about like one of those 90s fake anime comics
