Does diamond call pearl her soulmate or express that they are deeply linked in terms that imply greater than friendship, or is Pearl just fricking Severus Snapeing on her crush?

Again, even if this is an actual example, which I still don't think it is, this is from the actual woke show about queers by queers

If you accept Anime as an answer then Gundam Witch from Mercury. Having a higher-up exec, not even someone from the team that worked on the show, deny the pretty heavy implications from the ending and subsequently saying that both girls found husbands was a pretty big frick you to the /u/Black folk that a company could pull. That guy managed to cause the single largest shitfit on this site, Cinemaphile, /m/ and /u/ were unusable for three straight days due to all the seethe and shitposting.

Ok. I'll accept that as maybe true because I have no interest in finding out.

So that's one. That's probably newer than op's comic.
Which is probably actually complaining about Tangled Adventure, which it doesn't describe accurately at all.

What is this fanfiction? The exec said it was "open to interpretation", not that the characters married dudes. It was dumb, and obviously a cowardly way to try and avoid committing to the gay marriage, but anyone with a brain could see the ending for what it was. Of course, shitposters will latch on to anything

I see that point but their relationship always felt somewhat more unrequited. SU definitely did this with Lars and Sadie though, where seasons worth of building their relationship were tossed aside in SUF for a character that no one ever met.

I can't think of an example that this comic might be referring to specifically, because either the girl and guy get to know each other and delve into each other's personalities over the course of the movie/series or if it is a romantic work, then the "soulmate" person is usually missing and is just a good friend.

        >people can't be close friends, the comic

two people can be friends and love each but not be romantically in love. Why people don't get this

In this specific context, it's because in a TV show, everything has to build up to something bigger. So when you have two characters in a (presumably) romance story with a lot of chemistry, naturally, you just assume they're going to end up together. This isn't because in the real-world it's impossible to have close friends, but in the fictional world, why WOULDN'T these two characters get together?

Take Ron and Kim for example. Audiences spent four seasons watching them have failed relationships but continue to be extremely close best friends. They're both attracted to the opposite sex. From a story point of view, what reason do they have to NOT get together? "Kim thinks Ron is ugly" is a valid reason, but it also makes your lead character look superficial and unlikable. Writers tend to want their protagonists to be likeable.

Difference is Kim and Ron are straight and the opposite sex

You don't need a reason for a character not be in love with another character.
Some people just don't click together.

If the answer to the fictional characters in the OP comic is that, "They're not in love because they're not gay", that's also an answer. But if you're writing a love story, you would want the two characters falling in love to have the best chemistry. I mean, it's a fake story and these are fake characters, you could just hit backspace and make them gay.

Again, I'm speaking mostly for romance or stories that use romance as a major building block of the story-- such as superhero or slice-of-life stuff which (almost) need romance as a drive. I mean, there's a reason why people ship Elsa and Anna together and completely ignore Kristoff. It's not cause they're sisters-- they would ship those two even if they weren't related. It's because it's a love story and people hone in on the two characters with the best chemistry. There's a reason why people got pissed when Hermione ended up with Ron, or when Korra DIDN'T end up with Mako.

What countries allow for male intimacy without it being romantic? Women friends in America can hug, hold hands, lean on each others shoulders, sleep in the same bed, or even share a blanket and nobody bats an eye. You don't see that same relationship with male friends.

Obviously I don't mean "allow" as in legally, but social stigmas and whatever.

In some Middle Eastern and South American countries it's common for male friends to hold hands and greet each other with a kiss but that's the extent of it. Your best option is to get a time machine and go back to a period where male camaraderie was more common and socially acceptable.

Most homophobic countries allow for close friendship between males. With the rise of the LGBT movement in U.S. this behavior would make you look gay.

Every country did this before victorian england. Toxic masculinity is a laughably narrow concept applied to the entire history of humanity.

      Anonymous

Funnily enough it's countries that do have laws against homosexuality where this is socially acceptable.
My theory is that it's not correlated to homophobic directly but to heteronormativity.
When the only possible type of sexual interest is towards the other sex, it's only necessary interactions with the other sex to signal a LACK of interest.

Think of it this way. Everything you just described regarding skinship and intimacy would just be flirting if it were between a man and a woman right? You cannot do that and still be considered platonic.
Women must set boundaries with men, to signal that they aren't interested in them romantically.

In sexually open societies, men must also set those boundaries with other men.
In extremely heteronormative societies, the idea that male intimacy could signify lust is so far from the imagination that no signal is necessary.

The fact that women can do it is just a testament to how passive our view of female sexuality is.

do you ever feel like leftists pushing this agenda of "close platonic love" is actually romantic is gonna damage friendships in the future especially for men? I didn't really think about this until the New Spider-man game and seeing how Harry and Peter interact, it was a great healthy way to show thier friendship, but everyone online all of sudden thought it meant they were gay (yes I know Yuri said "they totally had a thing" but it felt pandering and markety as frick and besides when the guy that played Falcon in the MCU got asked the same thing with Falcon and Bucky he said no and got shit for it).

it feels like people are gonna be afraid to be open and personal with thier own friends if it's gonna come off as "romantic interest" and it'll have the effect of emotionally closing off people

Forget friends. There were more than enough freaks who insisted Anna and Elsa were lesbians because they were two women who loved each other. The fact they were sisters meant nothing to these people.
I assume everyone with this mindset will go on to molest their children if they (heaven forbid) have any. They’ve so entangled sexual attraction with any kind of affection that they won’t see any other way to love their offspring.
