I wouldn't say it is worse, because in a vacuum (when you don't know who that is), it's very well drawn. The problem arises when some furdyke decides she should be the one to dictate to the artists behind the movie how to do their work.
See I think it is worse then the original design cause while Zhen is definitely simpler then a lot of the other character designs, you get a fair sense of shape and personality from her while this has a lot of unneeded patterns and mostly loses what the animal she is even meant to be now from a front view, like the artist has a misconception that all the KFP designs have tons of patterns when Kai, Monkey and Mr Ping have fairly restrained designs that focus on the body shape or what the character is about

99% if you count the pandas, but most of them have some sort of marking on them
sure, not every character in their universe is super detailed, but i think a major character should definitely stand out and look more unique than she currently does. not every detail from her wanted poster needs to be brought over, but i would love for the more prominent whiskers or completely black-tipped ears to be present in the final design.

I don't inherently dislike the concept of aprentice/replacement charcter. I'm just dissapointed they did this while still ignoring the Furious Five. If they made like a spin-off film with them or something I'd probably react to this better.
by biggest issues are
1) It's basically the 3rd film again with Po having to learn to teach an unlikely hero(s)
2) The Furious Five as you mentioned. The annoying thing about this is that it was an issue even in the first film and has just gotten worse.
This is partly why I liked the old Legends of Awesomeness show even with all its issues since it gave the other members some attention.
