The treatment of peaceful indigenous tribes by many white settlers was beyond reprehensible, but like all things in life, it wasn't an absolute. There were far more friendly white settlers willing to get along with the natives and live peacefully than there were ruthless murderer conquerors, and the narrative of the noble savage completely fails to address the very large amount of warfare and hostility driven by other native tribes, not just against white settlers unprovoked but towards each other. Many of them really WERE savages.
