I produce an energy similar to Sabra that can temporarily activate someone's latent X-Gene or unlock a possible secondary mutation in others. At worst I give people debilitating cancers/mutations as a debuff. If I train with my power it'll become power copying/bestowal as I study Mutant Growth Hormones/Genetics to replicate specific mutations in others temporarily.

I'd give it some limits though. I can't just mutate things wily nily without knowing how the genes work without seeing/studying the mutation IRL without a downside, IE Mutate someone into a Brick/Thing but now they're slow or lose sense of touch/pain from the stoneskin. Sure that's good in combat but can lead to allies straining themselves from not knowing their limits.
To start off I'll only be able to mutate 2 People, Myself & 1 Target I have to touch/inject my power into with tendrils built into my arms/hands similar to Omega Red/Emplate. Probably have a starting shelf life of 1 hour per injection with 10 injections per day based on a pool of energy/chemicals in my arms/mutagenic nodes in my back/spine that lead to my fingers. Afterwards any usage after those 10 mutations causes me to pass out or strain myself which leads to drawbacks like uncontrollable rage, intense pain, ugly motherfricker syndrome a la Deadpool for the duration. If I chose a new target other than myself, tgen the mutations subside and the person goes back to normal within a minute.

Being honest I probably got attacked by Sentinels as an infectious biohazard that turns people into mutants while experimenting with my powers such as making Flying Pigs as a prank or temporarily altering my body safely to lose weight or stop other health issues. Maybe I tried helping someone who was hurt but they had a bad reaction/drawback that soured the moment and they reported me for it.
