I want you to realize that while this might not apply specifically to Greg, there are people who champion themselves as heroes of people like that and they actually fricking hate them. I'm convinced that the people you see int he media championing LGBT rights, even though they already have equal rights here in the US, actually hate them.
It's always been about getting the public to focus their ire on other targets. If they champion blacks, muslims, LGBTs, then they're making those groups the faces of the progressive movements - and thus, the targets of the inevitable backlash. Meanwhile, the "champions" of those causes wash their hands of them and blend right back in.

It's kind of racist that he changed her from being a blonde girl to a brown girl in a hijab and then the first thing he did was write a story where she was part of a terrorist cell who wanted to blow up the government.
