The problem with TBBT always was that it focused on Leonard and Penny, the most "normal" people on the show, while selling it self as a show about wacky genius nerds.
Focusing on Sheldon while making him more tolerable by making him a child was a smart move, and one that paid off immensely, let's see if the George Jr. series can pull it off too.
