It's bullshit but you do find out a little later his dad is the main bad guy who can choke people with his mind so I guess it makes a little sense that he's naturally talented. Makes more sense then Rey being perfect for 2 movies before finding out her grandfather is literally Satan.

but the movie outright states he isn't the goat and is nowhere near ready hence why he got his ass beaten by vader both physically and mentally, that and through word of god we later learn that luke spent months with yoda its just it wasn't communicated properly in the movies

The most he could do was spook some giant pig men with the force, do a few flips and hold his own in a fight against his dad who wasn't even trying to kill him. The prequels were when we saw what the Jedi were capable of but for some reason people think Luke is some badass in the movies. That stuff just came in the EU.

I know Luke is Jedi Jesus but the timeline seems weird. He spent three years between ANH and ESB not training under a Jedi Master and with no knowledge whatsoever about the Jedi, he trains with Yoda for a little bit - I’ve heard some theories that time in Dagonag works different but even then there’s no way he really trained, if anything the movie shows Luke rejected a lot of the spiritual aspects of the Force which is why he left and got his ass beat by Vader. Luke trains a lot between that and ROTJ but how was it enough to make him a Knight who could defeat Vader? Could ROTJ Luke even defeat any of the Jedi in the prequel era?

    >Luke jumps around with Yoda on his back on dagobah for a couple days and suddenly he's the GOAT.
No he wasn't, he lost his fight against Vader immediately and got his hand cut off. He trained with Yoda for a year and a half and still didn't compare to what the Jedi were in the prequel trilogy. He just happened to be good enough to beat Vader in Return because, y'know, Vader's old and Luke is the son of one of the most powerful Jedi ever.

    >Could ROTJ Luke even defeat any of the Jedi in the prequel era?
Maybe not, but that was never the point. The main thing (and arguably one of the only things) he was taught by Ben and Yoda was to be mindful of and listen to the guidance of the force, which is exactly what he does. This coupled with his own strong belief in doing what's right (even when Yoda himself argues against it) leads him to redeeming Anakin, who in turn destroys Sidious and brings balance to the force. Luke is interesting because he's the quintessential "Jedi Hero". He's not just some space warrior, he's the literal instrument of the light side of the force.

That's why the first 3 Star Wars movies are great on their own.

Perhaps but I don't believe the prequels necessarily lessen the OT at all. The old jedi order failed, precisely due to their own near cult-like dogma that led them to fail Anakin and allow him to be seduced to the darkside. Luke lacked all their fancy training in the force and military expertise but won out in the end simply by doing the one thing the entire old jedi order failed to do, listening to the will of the force and redeeming his father.

How long after the movies did it take for Luke to become more of a warrior then? I know he becomes grandmaster super Saiyan God Luke but how did he get stronger?

A lot longer than most anons here would have you believe. Even during the Thrawn trilogy which is 5 years after ROTJ he's still not really doing any mindblowing feats. Flipping over a few assassins and cutting a few in half maybe, but that's not far off from what he's already doing in ROTJ. No speedrunning to Grand Master Saiyan God nonsense like you're suggesting

In Disney canon he probably trained with Ahsoka which is actually one of the most reasonable arguments I’ve seen for how Luke got so strong quickly

    [...]

The sequels don't lessen anything because they will never be canon to me which has been the case with anything outside of George's 6 movies even before Disney. I just ignored the Vong shit I didn't like and it didn't impact anything. Disney forcing "hard canon" is what fricked everything up.

In my opinion, Luke is probably a high mid-level Jedi in terms of skill and Force power but his purpose was to refuse to turn to the Dark Side, not necessarily kill/beat Darth Vader (even though he clearly wants to beat him and turn him back).
After all, it's his sacrifice in willing to die for the Jedi cause that causes Vader to protect his son and bring balance to the Force.

I'm a moron and this makes no sense because I'm tired but Luke's main ability is his selflessness and that is what ultimately brings Vader back and kills the Emperor.

Luke's ability is his selfishness, doing what his heart truly desires, thus fulfilling the Force's will. Everybody else is nearly a programmed npc following a routine. Replace stormtroopers with androids and nearly nothing changes lol

Luke doesnt get legit strong until ROTJ. He was knight level by then, but after his shitty "training" with Yoda in ESB he can barely touch Vader who was just toying with him

Yoda told him he wasn't a Jedi until he confronted vader. He's below AotC Anakin tier in RotJ

AOTC Anakin would do something stupid and get his ass kicked, but I wonder if Luke would be able to beat anyone higher tier like Obi-Wan, Maul, Grevious, Ventress, or Dooku

Luke's fighting style is just being on the defensive while emotionally challenging his enemy to weaken them if I'm being autistic about it. At least in the movies.
