          actually
in the 70s/80s they figured this out with hot women and hot female stunt doubles and lighting so if this is seriously the hill you chose to die on to defend le maiden you're fricking moronic.

Only a moronic autist would think that the original costume would work in a live action adaption.

I'm not defending the show, I'm just stating the obvious. The costume is being held up by literal cartoon magic. If you look at it there's pretty much nothing holding it together. Dressing up in such a costume is probably as comfortable and believable as dressing up in wet toilet paper. That's why it doesn't work and has to be modified so that it even stays on which ruins the original aesthetic.

You would need to add buttons and such to make it even barely dressable.

yeah I've seen cosplayers wearing it, and it works, as a cosplay, it would look moronic as a parsons regular outfit on a tv show.

Nope, nothing moronic about it, cosplayers have done a better job than Wokeflix and the reason has nothing to do with stunts, it's called censorship and political correctness, these people hate the source material

I don't mind that they had to change the costume. But I hated how they completely fricked the character up. Faye isn't a dyke, not even a little bit.

In the Anime she has several relationships with men. It's never outright stated that she has feelings for Spike but it's implied. She also tries to stop him from going off to kill himself at the end.
The lesbo thing wasn't even the worst thing they did to the character, but it's a complete waste of time to talk about this dog shit Netflix slop anyway.

OK, point taken. But I think they could have come up with something close to/in the spirit of the original that she could have moved around in without too much discomfort (or no more discomfort than some Star Trek actors, for instance, have had to endure). Instead they went for something totally unappealing - for a character who's meant to be a femme fatale.

absolutely could work, honestly isn't even that far off from what some people DO wear out. also, things might look weird but look fine in context. no way do i look at any costume in fifth element and think "yeah, that's not cringe." but it all works in context of the world. stop being so damn daft.

        Anonymous

It might, they didn't even bother to try, their own words, not ours.
What irked me about the whole thing is that instead of just coming out and saying the costume didn't work for live action, they wanted to pretend they were so progressive for "updating" a fan favorite character for ESG points.
Just treat the fans with the smallest amount of respect, don't go around calling them bitter virgins for having issues with your changes, talk to them like real people.

Faye was literally a space scum scammer
she dressed like that to get men horny so she could scam them
it's a typical noir film archetype of the prostitute who is the only one who knows the "dark underbelly of the city" well enough to help the protag

But Spike is also from the dark underbelly of cities. He was a thief and a killer.

I'm sure you have a source for that.

I don't know where he's getting that from. In the cringey Netflix promotional show they did, the (israeli) showrunner claimed...
          >We started by watching the anime extensively
But whether that's true or not doesn't really matter, because they proceeded to shit all over it - I think deliberately. The actors claimed to have watched the anime too, yet Cho, for instance, was confused by someone mentioning Spike having a fake eye, among other things, so some of them may only have "watched" it in the background. The guy playing Jet may have actually done his homework, but - the race issue aside - the writers turned his character into a sad sack who won't shut up about his daughter, so, yeah.

            Anonymous

See? I think claiming that the people behind poor adaptations didn't care about the source material or deliber tried to sabotage it is letting them off too easily. The problem is laziness and a lack of skill and talent, plain and simple.

              Anonymous

I won't dispute that the show suffered from a shortage of talent (particularly on the writing side) and laziness/complacency, but I disagree that that's all it was. I'll piss off the "buy an ad" guy again, but in my video I did my best to "prove" that the showrunner et al ruined it on purpose. Even though they all claimed to love/respect the source material. It was so *aggressively* shit in so many respects that laziness and incompetence doesn't cover it.

Exactly. Her casting choice was a mistake. Faye uses her feminine charms and sex appeal to get what and where she wants. You don't dress up the hottest chick in the setting as a fat dumpy whatever dressed in dark clothing and layered to mask her sex appeal. I'm not sure it gets much worse than this (though I haven't seen all the shite that's out there), but my guess is they pulled the plug because the viewership was lower than expected and even most normie critics didn't like it.

dark crystal was good, shame not enough normies can into puppet kino to make a second season worthwhile. bebop was just shit though, I made it through one and a half episodes and had to tap out.

I also enjoyed it. I was never married to the anime. Imo it's mid, carried by an incredible soundtrack.
Before you @ me I know portions of it are plagiarized.

no one who watched dark crystal disliked it, though. it's just that a folklore fantasy show with puppets is a hard sell to most audiences, it is a wonder it got made in the first place. bebop live action was shitting on source material while the people who worked on it were pretending that it was the greatest adaptation to exist, respectful and "updated for modern audiences" (code for "your worldview is wrong and deserves to be reprogrammed)

The One Piece show's actually good and respects the source material. They got as close as they could get in 8 episodes.

        >The One Piece show's actually good and respects the source material.
Case in point. You morons have no standards and think that something which couldn't even pull off simple shot composition, or camera work, or even just hiring halfway decent actors, was "actually good".

            >it was good for a LA anime
No, it wasn't. It was about on par with Netflix-produced tive action anime adaptations, and arguably worse in terms of technical accomplishements.
And it was significantly worse than Japanese live action anime adaptations, most of which also aren't good.

    >pastiche neo-noir space detective story with spaghetti western thematic and design elements

anime doesn't translate into live action unless you also translate the thematic elements back into something comprehensible in live action
literally all you have to do is fricking copy noir films and the big three of spaghetti westerns, then set it in space

i wanted to give it a chance, not be too harsh. i knew i was going to be hard on the show because i love the source material so much, so i really tried to push past the things i was hating about the show. but then episode 2 came, made it about a fictionalized ted k, and dismissed him as nothing but crazy. it's material they didn't even need to touch, pretty much the only episode that wasn't a rehash or twist on an existing episode, and it was so fricking tone deaf.

    jet was cool, though.

That episode was a (terrible) rehash of Cowboy Funk, though, which also had the Teddy Bomber character. By my reckoning there were only two Netflix episodes with original (relatively speaking) stories.

The obvious looking down and underestimating the "weird but kinda cool chink cartoon" is the true racism. They can stuff it full of PoCs if they don't give an effort to understand the material. Likewise, the feverish need to "upgrade" decently written female characters is true misogyny. It's also painfully obvious they watched only the US dub.

      Anonymous

The US dub is the better version, weeb. It didn't even change the characters. The voice acting was just better. Even the creator thinks so.

The funniest thing about the whole CB reboot nonsense were the rabbid fans who tried to shill and attack the anime purists. People will really get behind anything these days. Most media these days is trash, but people will only admit something is trash will it reaches crtiical mass levels of terrible whereby they are forced to.
