It was literally established in the beginning of the movie that he can hear Louis's heartbeat or her presense or whatever from a far way off and get to her quickly as hell. He would easily be able to detect his own mother and save her before anyone even knew what is going on. This is superman. He moves faster than flash. It was complete trash and made no sense whatsoever. Suddenly, superman is an idiot with zero rhetoric skill and suddenly he forgot he is superman... makes sense.
Pitting a man against superman has never made sense and there is not a writer on this planet that could make it make sense.
