>Why do creators even bother with them? >dumped immediately
You kind of answered your own question. Faster cancellation = faster rotation = more opportunities to produce a show. Nick looks at more pitches, and has an open pitch policy. Disney does not.
Nick also provides bigger first season budgets than CN.
>Why do creators even bother with them?
If they're smart, they pitch throwaway ideas to earn a stable paycheck, then put the experience on their resume to build towards their dream show on a better network.
Do we know which show SIR was talking about here? I know he was "in the industry" for a minute, but it's kind of hard to imagine he'd be so willing to torpedo his own career over not liking a trend. I think I remember him saying something about not liking the workplace culture/pipeline, but you can do that without looking like a racist.
SIR wasn't being racist here, he was critiquing how the studios will put an ambiguously brown girl in the title role without any great consideration for her actual culture when it comes to writing her.
Then again, characters like Anne & Molly both have their Thai culture fairly prevalent, be it in Anne's actions (great writing) or Molly's day to day life (passable writing). I can't think of any BAD examples because they come from shows that are Immediately Unremarkable
I said "looking like a racist." I don't think SIR is racist or believes himself to be one though the difference between those two is not to be ignored. I totally get what he's saying about there being a need to appeal to demographics over actually telling stories. But it's a bad look to skewer a whole show based on that impulse.
Take Craig of the Creek, with many "content creators"at the time saying the show's intense use of diverse ethnicities was this cynical attempt to appeal to those communities. If the show had one season, that might've been true, but it repeatedly told stories that relied upon the characters' backgrounds as time went on.
I guess what I'm saying is -- it's a shame SIR didn't seem to like the industry, but it's even more of a shame this stupid vent comic might have been the nail in his coffin.

SIR was a drawgay on here, he posted those new years' comics on Cinemaphile that were full of board memes, before he decided to stop doing that. He had a good reason, I just can't remember it. He mostly sticks to tumblr & twitter these days, but he's also got a gig working on that Satina cartoon about the guy who had a daughter with the devil.
Racist??? The word choice of "acceptably brown" suggests he just doesn't like the ambiguously brown mystery meat characters (pic related) studios use when they're too much of a pussy to put an ethnic girl in the show.
is it cheaper to license to digital stores than streaming at this point? >a number of shows left Paramount+ in June >even more are leaving tomorrow >almost all that left are still on digital stores like AppleTV and Amazon Prime (sadly, not Season 2 of Allegra's Window)
After having watched the first two episodes, I see it as one of the better modern Era Nickelodeon shows in recent years. The colors are fun and vibrant, the family isn't "idiot dad, smart mom", characters are allowed to be buttholes but still get what they deserve in the end, there's an actual seasonal arc to follow, and it was fun just watching Ruby and Zokie just get thrown into different situations. Kinda reminds me more of Home: Adventures with Tip and Oh with a little bit of Molly McGee, but centered around Sci-fi and streaming culture. Definitely not going to be for everyone, but for what it does, it doesn't it well. If it ever does show up on the channel in 2024, I recommend at least giving it a couple episodes worth a shot before judging it.
in some ways it feels like "Nick's answer to Molly McGee", and a little bit of invader zim, the loser alien who is used as a punching bag by the king gets sent to Earth, I'm not even sure who the frick this kid is in this pic but I'm guessing he's the Ollie K-Pop insert... i skipped to the last episode to see if the title means anything and it ends with Ruby and her family stranded on Zokie's planet
I'll never understand how creators/networks can witness the success of simple formulas, straightforward tone, and minimalist character designs like paw patrol, baby shark, miraculous ladybug, and bluey, and then STILL want to make whatever mess this is.
kids don't have standards or taste
they'll literally watch anything you put on like a playlist of a guy dressed like mario shitting all over elsa from frozne on some youtube short
it LITERALLY doesn't matter what it is as long as it has color and is moving
Only applies to literal toddlers who can't read or write yet. The second they start developing theory of mind and thinking up their own coherent stories when they play, they absolutely will not watch "anything" unless they're not given any other choice. They will watch what they specifically are attached to, and nothing else. They will not attach to this mess just like they didn't attach to anything else Nickelodeon has shat out for over a decade now
yes but that only happens when they're like 8

If your kid isn't a moron they develop it earlier. If you're banking on little morons enjoying this, you can't compete with the youtube algo their equally moronic parents condemn them to watch on an ipad anyway
Your type and the comic book industry types are the same breed of stubborn willfully blind people who don't want to learn from the success of others you just want more of the same to please your in-groups. It's no skin off my ass though it won't affect me, I just have a bad habit of trying to speak to brick walls
Yes? Along with the international market that it's popular on as well? Loud House is one of the most heavily focus tested shows, which is why that it went from being about the sisters to mostly being about Lincoln's gang of friends.
Having skimmed through this show, I can see why it was dumped all at once: it feels like a one season watch. The last episode even feels like a conclusion with just an inch of cliffhanger, and not a hanging one.
Only seen the first episode so far but it seems alright. Ruby herself is cute and it seems like there could be something here to enjoy. Not really sold on Zokie the sandwich shitting alien or Earl the talking kleptomaniac squirrel just yet, but maybe they'll surprise.
I am not American and it's exactly the point of the image. The "acceptably brown" is a direct complain of a character not being black/diverse enough, which is why I pointed out how it is funny when white liberals in all those institutions try their hardest to put as many blacks and gays in everything, and yet, for blacks and gays it will always be not enough. No matter how hard you try to please them, they will never be pleased.
I think it's just nickelodeon not realizing they haven't made the episode public since they literally rushed the release of this show as quickly as possible
I guess that checks out. Just seems so strange. I mean, rushed all episodes at once release, some of the credits for the episodes are listed as far back as 2022, and there's an episode that just isn't available? What the heck was happening for it to come out in such a mess? Was there even any information or news about this series before it came out? It almost feels like it came out of nowhere. That it was also all dumped the first day of a new year also makes me wonder if there was more to it as well.

production on the show began at the very end of 2022 so that's not unusual, what is weird is them dumping it online without any formal announcement or marketing at all. I hope they don't plan on not airing the show or something

My guy, you're getting paid 5 cents per post to FUD against a cartoon at 4am in the morning in the only relevant part of the planet inside a thread that has mostly made up its mind already. Time to reevaluate your life choices and/or leave India.
I was hoping for a link in English but then again I doubt they would actually pay me they would give me the run around until I gave up
20 posts shitting on a cartoon is quick and easy work and would probably make me enough to fund my own cartoon
Cool to see these storyboards. Also looking deeper into the creator's account that the post is quoting is interesting. Looks like the show really did just drop all at once without much warning for him as well. Seems like he's just glad the show at least got to see the light of day. I hope this show at least gets to see TV one day.
Yeah, Tweenkle is vile and intent on crushing people she seems even remotely a threat and it turns out letting a character like her run wild is pretty entertaining. Definitely something I had wished they'd have let Andrea get to do beyond that first episode.
The bigger problem I'd think is that the majority of Andrea's redemption seems to have happened off screen and that she was never really as mean as she was that first episode even though nothing in that episode should have made her change from there.
That's what it sounded like. They had some plan for her and had her genuinely mean, but then scrapped it and rewrote her after the first episode had a focus group responses. Or at least that's what it seemed like happened according to how BillBob described it.
Honestly I don't mind the Andrea we got, it's just that her character development was executed terribly. They could've kept around a mean bully archetype like Tammy (who was really just a recolored pilot Andrea) but that was a little too smart for old MotzenRoth.
depends if they renew it, the last episode was literally finished october of this year so if a season 2 was coming it wouldn't be until at least 2025. In a normal situation where this show gets aired periodically that wouldn't be that far away but nickelodeon just dumped all 26 episodes so... the chances feel low.
When was the last time Nick renewed a non-preschool Nelvana production?
That sounds more like something Nick would do. Disappointing. The show is alright and I'd have liked to see how it could have been received had it been given a chance and a more normal release schedule. Like this, it feels like it's effectively already dead at before it got to take off.
That would probably make it a little better at least. But if it was unintentional then it's also a sign of bizarre levels of incompetence on their part.
Is Nick capable of making a show that doesn't get dumped immediately? Why do creators even bother with them?
Amazon > Cable
>Why do creators even bother with them?
>dumped immediately
You kind of answered your own question. Faster cancellation = faster rotation = more opportunities to produce a show. Nick looks at more pitches, and has an open pitch policy. Disney does not.
Nick also provides bigger first season budgets than CN.
Also what happened to the show wasn't Nick's fault this time, it was an Amazon leak.
This is a Nelvana co-production. They care about it even less than usual.
It's a Nelvana-owned production that Nickelodeon happens to be distributing (at least in the US).
>Why do creators even bother with them?
Since C.H. Greenblatt exposed them nobody wants to pitch shit to Nick, the only people still pitching new shows at the studio are the Spongebob crew
Just waiting for the MEGA

That sounds like a set up for a new season if anything. Or maybe just a last joke to go off on. Could go either way really.
There's a cliffhanger? No wonder why it ended up on streaming.
At least it didn't end with the alien turning into a fat old human man
I still don't believe they'll have it in them to go with that ending. That feels like too much, even for them.

The specter and girl show.
Why did they get rid of Happy's blue hair?
So was this series already canceled?
It was a leak, but the final episode is literally titled " the end times ", so better it goes out with a bang than a cliffhanger.
Oh yeah, I'm looking through the list and that does seem like something you'd expect from a finale. Odd. Did this ever get a chance to air on Nick?
Shit's not even officially out yet.
What is this crap?
No idea. May already be dead though depending on what happens.

Canonically an older nicktoons girl than Azula, and the same age as Vicky
They also made her name a piss joke
Someone had fun slipping in this joke.
She's sixteen? Strange. Then how old is the lead girl?
Ruby is ten, so a big age gap.
Thought so. She's so small I had figured she was a younger kid. Odd that she would be dealing with a sixteen year old like this then.

No wonder people are growing numb to this shit
Yeah, Tweenkle is vile and intent on crushing people she seems even remotely a threat and it turns out letting a character like her run wild is pretty entertaining. Definitely something I had wished they'd have let Andrea get to do beyond that first episode.
That is what I thought too, Mr. Mass Replier. Tweenkle is what Andrea could've been if Billybob weren't the most milquetoast showrunners ever.
What went wrong?
She was made sympathetic (she was only a jerkass because she wanted mommy and daddy to hug her more) and then got redeemed by Molly's friendship.
The bigger problem I'd think is that the majority of Andrea's redemption seems to have happened off screen and that she was never really as mean as she was that first episode even though nothing in that episode should have made her change from there.
Wasn’t that exactly what she was supposed to be, but they changed it after they finished with “First Day Frights”?
That's what it sounded like. They had some plan for her and had her genuinely mean, but then scrapped it and rewrote her after the first episode had a focus group responses. Or at least that's what it seemed like happened according to how BillBob described it.
Honestly I don't mind the Andrea we got, it's just that her character development was executed terribly. They could've kept around a mean bully archetype like Tammy (who was really just a recolored pilot Andrea) but that was a little too smart for old MotzenRoth.
>literally Bunsen is a Beast but with a female monster and a black girl as protagonists
kek
>female monster
That's a man, baby.
Yeah but she’s ugly
I don't know, she kind of makes the uncanny look work. Sort of fits with her bizarre and fake personality.
So what are the odds this really is going to be a one season show?
depends if they renew it, the last episode was literally finished october of this year so if a season 2 was coming it wouldn't be until at least 2025. In a normal situation where this show gets aired periodically that wouldn't be that far away but nickelodeon just dumped all 26 episodes so... the chances feel low.
Pretty high, unfortunately. At least with Glitch Techs they divided up the premiere dump to create the illusion it had two seasons.
That sounds more like something Nick would do. Disappointing. The show is alright and I'd have liked to see how it could have been received had it been given a chance and a more normal release schedule. Like this, it feels like it's effectively already dead at before it got to take off.
When was the last time Nick renewed a non-preschool Nelvana production?
Incidentally Ruby was apparently based on the creator's daughter.
Cute design, don't like that that the show will likely be dated
Cute design, don't like that that the show itself will most likely be dated
Dated how so?
Maybe dated was the wrong word to use, but I'm personally not a fan of the whole youtube/influencer aspect.
"We'll find another way for you to show love"
They are asking for it
is very good show
Ruby sure does has a back pack
Has episode seventeen been unlocked yet?
No, but the creator said he told the network about it
That is something at least. I hope he talks about the strange release the show got eventually.
