I don't categorize my media recognition ability based on memes but I'll admit I've watched things before and suddenly recognize a scene from a reaction gif I've seen used frequently all over the internet for years, like pic rel when I watched The Wire a few years back.
It's ok, I'm 40 and I only recognize movies made before 1980 from cartoon parodies

Honestly, the guy I work with has this playlist that's like 90% stuff from old kids movies, like that cringy ass song at the end of Ice Age or OCEAN MAN, rest of the time it's AI covers or gay acoustic versions of Metallica or Green Day.

maybe that's just the way it goes, and maybe that's how our grandparents felt for us growing up, but it really feels like you guys are getting shafted hard. i babysit my younger cousin sometimes and all he watches is absolute bottom of the barrel brainrot from youtube. im talking 10min gta clips of spiderman and the hulk riding motorcycles or the worst 3d animated garbage you've ever seen and because he's too young to really operate youtube it just autoplays this garbage over and over and over again. swear to god if i ever have kids they aren't getting anywhere near the internet. i'll force them to watch old pbs content like the muppets or fricking barney for entertainment

The issue you have it it seems you have far more bad eggs due to the spread of the internet and exposure, plus the internet is smaller now so it's all concentrated in a few places. Years ago it was all over the internet on different forums and communities so it seemed like it wasn't as bad
