I thought only mestizos used limewire, chads used kazaa. I only ever downloaded songs, then one of my friends showed me how to torrent in 2004 and I never looked back. Back in those days you didn’t even need a vpn and I never remember getting any dmca violations.

I remember getting internet faster than 56k for the first time. It was 1999 or 2000 and we got DSL which was 768k, it felt extremely fast and it probably was relative to the time. A couple of years later I remember upgrading to 1.5 mbps

I was pretty astonished you could get a movie from the internet especially if your parents were strict religious types that wouldn't let you watch cool shit. Was the only time I used Limewire for a movie I just grabbed songs after that until torrenting and DSL was a thing.
It took too long for full movies and the quality would be shit. You couldn’t get hd over the internet easily until the 2010s

Think all I ever did was use #news for some manga. Never really jumped on the XDCC wagon for most stuff. I was just too used to p2p networks, granted it was often hit or miss with getting what you wanted. This should have made me go for IRC since it would be more curated I assume, get a bad actor and people would talk/ban the bot.
I think the only movie I actually downloaded in full was Shrek 2 and it looked like shit. it really wasn't the best for full movies I think because the files were to big.

I never really messed with Limewire. By that time torrenting morphed into a shit show and you never knew what you would end up with. The Napster days were great though.
