Uninterested in solar opposites or Rick and Morty anymore to be honest. I watched Rick and Morty before and Roiland's voices and humor are why I watched.

It's not even that. If you actually divorce Roiland from the external influences of Rick and Morty and take him at face-value it's just wacky improv humor where you make up zany nonsense words and pretend they have meaning.

Watching the first episode if the season

Surprise surprise there's still Incest jokes between Yumulack and Jesse

At least we know now the incest shit wasn't on Justin

Such jokes seem to be the trend these days. I feel like I keep running into them, the last two unrelated shows I've been keeping up with randomly sprung them on me there too.
It's hot to me but even then it's going kind of far for normies' sakes.

It's unironically because incest porn has been pushed heavily in the past few years by Mindgeek, which has a near-monoppoly on porn. Given that the two industries are somewhat connected (Roiland even brought Riley Reid into the R&M offices) it's no surprise the incest theme has spread there.

I could understand why they broke up the Star Trek pairing considering that's the MC being paired up with a minor side character. Relationships like that never usually last in sitcoms because MC x Side Character ships are generally hard to write without giving the side character too much over exposure at the expense of the actual main characters

It was easy with Solar since both Korvo and Terry are both the MCs

It was easy with Solar because they’re gays who happen to be MCs. The showrunner is obsessed with homosexuality.

Do you have any idea what they did on Star Trek? They fired half of the original writing staff who were setting up a straight romance between the two MCs, and replaced them with nobodies just because McMahan was in the mood for lesbians.

You don't get it either. Fence sitting and those who are willing to mediate are fine in times of peace, but in times that desperately need change all they do is delay the natural process of change and get in the way. You make the mistake of thinking that people 100% believe that no bad things will happen as a cost of extremism. Rather, they see that bad costs as minimal compared to the good that can be achieved. All relevant civilizations have been crafted on this principle and it is the height of arrogance to assume our civilization made of dumb plebs is any better than past ones. Fence setting is just maintaining the status quo, and the status quo is failing in modern times. People that still believe that "democracy = good at all times" and that "everyone, even morons and malicious people, need a voice and power" are idiots.

                Anonymous

Even if you have extreme positions, you should still try to understand the positions you're opposing. Ignoring nuance is just shooting yourself in the foot by choosing to be moronic. You can at least see the wisdom in knowing your enemy.

And the idea that all these people not going along with the extreme sides are "fence sitters" is moronic in the first place. People can have strong beliefs, even if in your mind they're just strongly supporting a status quo.

I'm not going to debate you on Cinemaphile about the worth of democracy or any of that. Maybe that came up earlier in the thread but I wasn't part of that conversation and don't care. I'm talking about how people act, regardless of the particular issue. And how the "fence sitter" insult is usually bullshit.

I do understand the positions I oppose, moron. I can understand the theoretical best scenario they envision and the practical application, and can compare the likelihood between the two compared to my own preferred system.
                >And the idea that all these people not going along with the extreme sides are "fence sitters" is moronic in the first place. People can have strong beliefs, even if in your mind they're just strongly supporting a status quo.
Most people are fence sitters by nature, sure, however most don't but into conversations and make shitty posts on an anonymous image board. Also, pure mob rule means nothing to me.

It depends on the context, and in the case of ridiculing extreme ideologies who want to divert the course of hellish modern society, it is worth calling cowardice.

                >You make the mistake of thinking that people 100% believe that no bad things will happen as a cost of extremism. Rather, they see that bad costs as minimal compared to the good that can be achieved.
Sure, but it's still good to have people pointing out the costs and the bad that can come. By definition an extremist will deem the bad as an acceptable cost, but in truth it might not be. They have a skewed view of it.

People who don't fully understand the costs are no better than plebs. Some plebs can still be extremists, but because they cannot see the other side or misinterpret it, their opinions do not matter when it comes to actual policy unless those plebs somehow get the power to make policy.

The whole point of having a cult of personality which many extreme ideologies have is to prevent this very thing. It's not just to inflate the ego of the guy in charge. Also a focus on youth groups like the Hitler Youth and other similar organizations in extreme ideologies reinforces this. No one claims that this system won't eventually corrupt, the whole point is to try and make a system that is symbiotic and checks itself and make the good times last longer.

Lmaooo what a pointless gesture. Hulu still has to credit Roiland as co-creator regardless, so all this does is bring MORE attention to what ideally should be swept under the rug. I know the cold open directly addresses and lampoons the voice change, but I imagine the rest of the Solar Opposites crew would want the series to continue as normal from there on. Skyler Page and Chris Savino were still credited in their own shows, so what good does this title card change actually do?

I didn't know Justin was fired as a Va, saw that the new season dropped, got excited and then was almost immediately so disappointed. His voice is most of the reason I liked the show. I skipped all the way to the last episode of the season to see if they changed his voice back but nope.

NTA but Roiland's comedic delivery and adlibbing was a major component of the show. Replacing the main VA on a show like this can easily effect the quailty of it's humor. It be like removing Dan Castellaneta and recasting Homer Simpson.

Somebody was after Roiland, man. I remember when bread tubers were all piling on Rick and Morty with the most hackey and brain dead woke culture attack and criticism videos I ever saw. Then it all died down, and a crazy sexual assault allegation comes against him that got him dropped from the show and then almost immediately the charges disappeared.

Nah, Roiland fricked up in one core regard. The Hollywood types are never afraid of what the verdict is, they're scared of a trial. Once it goes to trial, the charge is public information. Why do you think all those #MeToo cases often involved stories of attempts to settle or hush money? They want these things to be silent BEFORE people can have all the details

We'll probably never know. What we DO know:
      >domestic abuse charges were dropped months ago over a lack of evidence
      >he was verifiably messaging 16 year old girls and bragging about inventing Rick and Morty as a way to chase tail
      >while you can't expect people to jump to his defense and put their own careers on the line, the amount of people going "yeah, actually he was awful all the time, here's a weirdly specific personal memory of a time he was awful at the office" outweighed the people being neutral or refusing to comment by a lot, even in situations where their job security entirely hinged on Roiland existing, like Squanch Games
All we can do is speculate. Personally, the most reasonable version is "toxic relationship boils over into false claims of abuse, but Roiland had been a dick in varied and myriad ways to underlings, equals, AND corporate overlords for his entire career, so everyone was happy to use the HE HURTS WOMEN outrage as their one chance at excising him from their lives without fans getting outraged enough to tank all of his projects"

        Anonymous

The projects will tank since he did the majority of the dialog and that'll be either poor impressions or radically different.

Rick and Morty will be the test

          Anonymous

Rick and Morty will be fine, there will be enough people hate watching the next season/curiously watching the fire. So it’ll get enough views that they’ll think it’s fine next season they’ll lose almost all of them than they’ll get a finale season. Same thing happened to the office when Steve Carell left.

          Anonymous

I agree. My point is that firing him for being a shitty coworker/unreliable showrunner at any other time could have easily been taken as "oh, they're trying to steal his show/game/etc" and then you have to deal with a fan revolt (and that could torpedo careers, especially for the game devs, considering when High on Life had to release). Everything is likely to tank without him, but tanking because everyone tries the replacement and agrees the soul was removed at least keeps the projects afloat while everyone finds new jobs, in a way that tanking because Roiland weaponized his cult of personality doesn't. The tanking is almost guaranteed, but the speed of the tanking was controllable.

It really bothers me that she's still untouchable. I was willing to excuse Tiffany Haddish in Haunted Mansion and The Afterparty since those two productions' hands were tied and it was too late to re-film EVERYTHING, but if Solar Opposites was able to redub all of Korvo's lines then they def should've recast AISHA by now. I remember there being complaints when it was announced that Haddish return for Girls Trip 2, but that seems to have died down, as with all celebrity controversies.

              Weren't those charges dropped?

Anyway, the biggest difference is that Haddish likely had people who still want to work with her unlike Roiland, it's the same reason why Harmon still has a job. If Roiland was able to keep actual connections, he would still be on his shows.

But this is factually correct. The animation world is filled with nothing but pure nepotism. As long as you've got connections you can completely get away with anything

It seems like Dan Harmon and Alex Hirsch lost contact with Roiland years ago (likely the same with McMahan), but I'm especially curious about Roiland's present relationship with his most recent collaborators: Michael Cusack and anyone he worked with at Squanch Games or on The Paloni Show. Myke Chilian is a buddy of Roiland's from waaaay back in the day (the reason Rick and Morty looks more constructed than Roiland's shitty doodles, Gweeseek/Meeseeks, etc.). He did a Paloni short too. How awkward is it for him right now?

Rick & Morty yes but it's still unknown how much involvement he had on Solar Opposites

The fact that the new season has a slightly different tone compared to the last 3 seasons (The characters feel a bit lighter and softer) makes me feel like his absence definitely affected it

        >it's still unknown how much involvement he had on Solar Opposites
Seems it quickly became more McMahan's show than Roiland's. This was the writers' room as far back as October 2021. Whatever changes you're feeling from this latest season's writing didn't come from Roiland's firing just a few months back. I'm sure the "lighter tone" was a conscious effort by all the writers that's been a long time coming.

I'm curious if the recast implies they either wanted to move away from Justin's voice or if Justin may own the characterization of the voice? Is that why Korvo has a different voice entirely, rather than an impression?
Is that why nothing's been announced for who will be replacing Justin for R&M?
    Or, I'm completely wrong.

The fact that Red Goobler sounds exactly the same despite being recast tells me that they could've easily found a sound alike for Korvo if they wanted to which implies they probably wanted to move away from Justin's voice
