i cant take vince vaughn seriously. every time he was on screen i expected him to break out into some moronicly unfunny crass comedy bit.

Reddit opinion. Vince did incredible dramatic work here and his frame is nothing to laugh at. Guy's a fricking unit. It fits with him as an infamous mobster. I think he was leagues above McAdams or Kitsch. Him and Farrell were on fire in Season 2. Great work.

TD S2 and Cell Block 99 show me he's easily one of the few actually excellent actors left, along with Mel and some others i can't think of right now. He's great with a really enthralling screen presence and he looks like this co-worker I hanged out with and liked before he left. Seems like his head is in the right place. I like Vince.

I hope they make another TD season with Mel and Vince chasing some diabolical serial killer or a gang. It would be so fricking kino.
            >Passion 2
God, I can't wait for it. I've seen that they're going to start shooting it in 2024. It could be the next Top Gun: Maverick but 1000x better and more based. I trust Mel. He knows that the hundreds of millions of religious people will crave for some based filmmaking and positive affirmation of the faith. I hope they hold nothing back and show everything.

According to Mel, the movie will show the fall of angels and satan, and Christ's descent into hell after the crucifixion prior to His resurrection.
I expect the kino to end all kinos.

It doesn't even do itself justice as the art goes steering off the road like a drunk every chapter or two.

Still a nice setup tho and it had some good character stories. Always struck me as a shame it wasn't a collab between artists & writers.

It's Catholic fanfic that lives on because Christians think it's a powerful image. It is not only that the textual basis for the story is virtually non-existent, but it is also important to remember that these texts were written by culturally israeli writers that of course lacked the Indo-European concept of an underworld.

                Here.
Harrowing of Hell. — This is the Old English and Middle English term for the triumphant descent of Christ into hell (or Hades) between the time of His Crucifixion and His Resurrection, when, according to Christian belief, He brought salvation to the souls held captive there since the beginning of the world. According to the “New English Dictionary” the word Harrowing in the above connection first occurs in Aelfrie’s homilies, about A.D. 1000; but, long before this, the descent into hell had been related in the Old English poems connected with the name of Caedmon and Cynewulf. Writers of Old English prose homilies and lives of saints continually employ the subject, but it is in medieval English literature that it is most fully found, both in prose and verse, and particularly in the drama. Art and literature all through Europe had from early times embodied in many forms the Descent into Hell, and specimens of plays upon this theme in various European literatures still exist, but it is in Middle English dramatic literature that we find the fullest and most dramatic development of the subject. The earliest specimen extant of the English religious drama is upon the Harrowing of Hell, and the four great cycles of English mystery plays each devote to it a separate scene. It is found also in the ancient Cornish plays. These medieval versions of the story, while ultimately based upon the New Testament and the Fathers, have yet, in their details, been found to proceed from the apocryphal Gospel of Nicodemus, the literary form of a part of which is said to date back to the second or third century. In its Latin form this “gospel” was known in England from a very early time; Bede and other Old English writers are said to show intimate acquaintance with it. English translations were made of it in the Middle Ages, and in the long Middle English poem known as “Cursor Mundi” a paraphrase of it is found.

TD s2 threads are always really comfy and informative. Shows the underlying power of Frankposting.

S2 originally had a much stronger emphasis on the connection between human trafficking, politics, and Hollywood but the execs at HBO ordered Pizza to rewrite it because it was hitting too close to home and then Fukunaga left the project. The incoherent mess you got at the end was an unfinished, neutered product and should not be be celebrated for that reason alone. Lots of potential. Wasted.

I'm aware and it still is more emotionally resonating and interesting to watch than most slop as

Yeah it's in the Pauline Epistles so it doesn't get as much attention in pop culture compared to the Gospel narratives, but it (the Harrowing of Hell) was a huge part of Christian iconography and theology

The whole thing is an anti-conspiracy where it's really just a mix of bog-standard capitalism and isolated incidents occurring simultaneously, there is no occult sex trafficking conspiracy and all the girls are just there to make a buck, the murder of Caspare doesn't really have anything to do with what's going on in Vinci, whether in the "legitimate" world or the underworld, the weird hippie commune Rachel McAdams grew up in is just a bunch of bumbling old acidheads that don't look after their kids well enough.

Furthermore, every main character is some aspect of the "cool" character Rust Cohle, except those traits are exaggerated to a comedic degree and they're all also portrayed as terminally uncool incompetent losers that are too strange and inauthentic, even for the self-consciously artificial world of Vinci.

All self-conscious parody, just like the oblique references to Tibetan Buddhism it is thrown in to poke fun at the obsessive fans of S1. The Twin Peaks pastiche do serve a structural purpose though, in highlighting the gangster movie artificiality of the universe of Vinci.

The dynamic of good-hearted mobster and crooked detective is gold. I liked that in the end they were truly friends and Frank cared for Ray. Their back and forth in this is some of the finest acting i've ever seen.

No. It's legit good. It has great and memorable moments, great soundtrack and musical cues, a really nice and fast pace, the atmosphere was good and the characters were far too interesting for how little they got. Yeah the overall plot could have been a lot more hard-hitting than just rich guys running million dollar scams but then again I disagree with that alltogether. It's far more palpable and interesting than le creepy cult and symbolism. I liked it for that reason alone. Plus, the plot felt like more of a backdrop for the character moments and developments which were very well done like Ray and Ani falling in love and Frank's relationship with Jordan.
