There are a set number of multiverses, when one of "you" dies in another multiverse, your power gets spread evenly among the others. Bad Jet Li has killed all the other Jet Lis except one, now Good Jet Li has to fight for his life and the fate of the multiverse to prevent Bad Jet Li from becoming... THE ONE.
I could've sworn they said the power is split equally among the rest when a person kills his other self. Not when the other self just dies on their own. It had to be an intentional act by one to kill the other.
no it's not that because otherwise they would've just killed evil Jet Li. Statham even has him at gunpoint early in the movie, but they can't because that would make good Jet Li "the one". it's literally just whenever they die
yes but I just assumed they'd all die of old age at relatively the same time if not for someone dimension hopping and fricking with stuff.
but evil jet li is fighting for his life at the end of the movie what if he actually loses and dies then the entire thing is fricked
No by the time he gets on the prison planet he's so powerful that nobody can kill him. He'll just be fighting people forever. It's his gift and his curse. Super awesome ending.
how the frick do they know that? what if one of them gets lucky or he gets tired or whatever? why wouldn't they put him in isolation?
You know that nobody on the prison planet will kill him because they already clearly established that the only person who can possibly kill him is the other Law, and since they're both now separated for the rest of their lives, they'll both just live until the universe corrects itself and they both die at the same time.
they didn't establish that. he's the person with the best chance of killing him but it's entirely possible he can get killed. the other cops in the movie hold him at gunpoint and even contemplate killing him but they don't because they're afraid it will make good jet li "the one" so clearly he's not immune to being killed by a normie

But they also showed him moving at superhuman speeds and having strength far beyond the capacity of a normal human so it is very likely that there is no one on the prison planet that can defeat him, unless there's some other dude that tried to kill all of his other versions and is as powerful as him.

That's because both Jet Li's were in the same universe

this happened when they were in a different universe actually
But they also showed him moving at superhuman speeds and having strength far beyond the capacity of a normal human so it is very likely that there is no one on the prison planet that can defeat him, unless there's some other dude that tried to kill all of his other versions and is as powerful as him.
all it would take is one guy out of the hundreds trying to kill him to get lucky and stab him or something. why would they even take such a risk?
the Laws weren't bullet proof, Jason Statham with hair could have shot him at any time with his future gun, they just didn't want to create another one, Jason Statham with hair was also concerned if Good Jet Li was sent back to that terrible universe where George W. Bush became president (god could you imagine yuck) that Good Jet Li would be killed on sight for the crimes of Bad Jet Li
The One is a perfect movie, giant rat testicles, Ohhhhh Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahhhhhhh

The entire premise only makes sense if you assume they're wrong about how it works, and that doubles -have- to kill each other for the power to disseminate among them.
yeah but then that doesn't make sense because even if the characters are wrong they still believe it and then knowingly put evil jet li on the prison planet with a bunch of violent criminals trying to kill him instead of putting him in isolation
You could explain it away that you only get your double's soul power if they die while you're both in the same universe, otherwise it dissipates naturally
Actually they state pretty clearly in the movie that no one knows what would happen if one of the last two died. They're afraid of the worst, but apparently not afraid enough to keep the bad one alive in a controlled environment. Of course, one would assume that, at some point, one of them will die anyway, whether through some accident or just old age.
how is a bunch of interdimensional criminals trying to kill him a "controlled" environment? I assume if they aren't killed by interdimensional shenanigans they would just naturally die at the same time but that doesn't really seem the case here.
and given that the middle aged black cop was able to get a couple of hits on him it's hardly outside the realm of possibility he could die at the end
I don't think it's that if there's only one, the multiverse destroys itself.
I thought it was just that the evil Jet Li would be so powerful, no one would be able to stop him from doing whatever he wants and since he's a bad guy he will do bad things. He'd be a godlike person
that's not true. the cops have the power to kill him in like the first 20 minutes of the movie but they don't because they're afraid it wil make the good jet li "the one", and later the middle aged black cop is able to get in a fist fight with him and get in a few good licks.
Jason statham has plot armour. Makes 0 sense Yu law couldn't kill him. A matter of fact makes even less sense, why is he even running from these guys he can easily dispatch them they have 0 powers.
there are guard towers and shit, its fine.
what actually doesnt make sense is that unless everyone dies of old age at the same time ones will happen inevitably (and no they dont have to be killed by a self because black guy and jason statham wouldnt have had to synchonize their killings of jet li otherwise)
The ending was good but it made no sense narratively. You spent the entire film trying to stop him from becoming a god…only to exile him to a universe where everyone is trying to kill him inadvertently causing the thing you were trying to stop
Not a difficult thing since the very concept of multiverse is extremely idiotic in nature. This one at least doesn't smoke its own farts and just centers on cool fights.
What's it about?
The One
Fair, I should have seen that coming

>multiverse movie
>has an easy to understand premise that drives the plot
Kino . It didn’t need constant dialog explaining the situation.
Every time you need it to the bad jet li beats someone up and screams I WILL BE THE ONE! before walking off. It’s kino
I could've sworn they said the power is split equally among the rest when a person kills his other self. Not when the other self just dies on their own. It had to be an intentional act by one to kill the other.
Yeah. Otherwise people would be powering up out of nowhere when they hit old age and their alternate old selves die from heart attacks.
no it's not that because otherwise they would've just killed evil Jet Li. Statham even has him at gunpoint early in the movie, but they can't because that would make good Jet Li "the one". it's literally just whenever they die
its kind of boring. the ending is great and there are some cool moments but a lot of the movie kinda sucks.
still better than : Everything Everywhere at Reddit, SpiderVerse and the Flash though
Why would you think that?
Should have had him in black face, like there is a universe where he’s black
Or white
Or red head
Or female
this movie really makes no sense. the entire premise is that if one of the last 2 Jet Li's dies then the universe is fricked
but then they put him on a prison planet at the end where a bunch of prisoners are trying to kill him
Wouldn't they all eventually die of old age anyway?
yes but I just assumed they'd all die of old age at relatively the same time if not for someone dimension hopping and fricking with stuff.

yes that sounds very poignant and relateable.

Only his twin has the power to kill him. Hes basically a god on that planet.
that's not true. the cops have the power to kill him in like the first 20 minutes of the movie but they don't because they're afraid it wil make the good jet li "the one", and later the middle aged black cop is able to get in a fist fight with him and get in a few good licks.

>Yulaw: Sure.
I love that movie. One of my favorites of all time.
Would have been funny if he had to team up with SurferBro Li and Effeminategay Li to try and keep them from dying too
Probably would start to get too complicated like modern multiverse films that no one really likes
gaylaw would keep trying to frick himself
i need that black jumpsuit that yulaw was wearing
The ending is kino af.

Not a difficult thing since the very concept of multiverse is extremely idiotic in nature. This one at least doesn't smoke its own farts and just centers on cool fights.
