He actually doesn't look that bad. My grandfather had a similar look after my grandma died. He used to wear a tie and a Panama hat every day and then just went straight for the haggard "style" for the last 20 years of his life. Like he would say, "once you're old nobody gives a frick about how you look, so why not be comfortable?"
