Neither amazingly. Written and directed by a woman. But it was great. One of the best portrayals of depression I've seen in recent memory, not just in the main guy's performance, which was perfect, but tonally as well. The girl is cute, acts well enough, and has really good chemistry with the guy as her father. It's strong throughout and doesn't cop out at the end.

Looks like it was an autobiographical and very personal movie, so I wouldn't be surprised if the girl that made it doesn't end up making more great movies, but doesn't change the fact that this one is among the best movies I've seen recently. I'd be hard pressed to find real complaints I have with it. The last scene with them together dancing probably could've been way more heavy-hitting if they'd just played it straight instead of going for the recurring metaphor thing, but I understand what the director was going for.

That ending scene got me. I thought it was an average film up until that point. Then all the feels when I realized what was going on.

      Yeah the end was great.

doesnt matter much, imdb is more accurate for kino. The flick is good by itself, it's just hard to watch such accurately portrayed depression. The whole setting isn't depressing and should be more happy, yet mc cannot overcome his depression. The adult daughter scenes are kinda shit though, and could've been shorter.

It's great. My one main complaint, and maybe it's just because the scenes in the past are just so well acted in comparison, but the scenes in the present feel sort of poorly acted IMO. Even with that said, it skill sky rocketed up to near the top of my favorite movie list, I'm a sucker for dad/daughter relationship drama.

You're made about this movie because he smoked in the presence of a child? Not sure I trust the judgment of somebody that calls girls "e-girls," on matters of child abuse. You sound like you're one step removed from being eligible for lifelong registry as a sex offender.

Yes, any moral person would be mad about child abuse. Why are you not mad about it?

Sex within a proper relationship is good.

I also think it's pretty much a masterpiece. It's one of the comfiest and most nostalgic films I've seen in a long time but yea it's very depressing

The cinematography is very good. I was disappointed but not surprised that the director turned out to be a lesbian but most mid women with daddy issues are.

It worked out for her. The movie wouldn't have been nearly as great if her daddy issues weren't genuine. And now she's given the world a movie that goes far beyond the mere experience of a lesbian with daddy issues. Weird how that works out.

Unfortunately it also makes me doubt she'll be able to match this success in the future unless she keeps retreading the same material

Best movie of the 2020s so far. Human in a way few movies manage to be. It's a moving portrait of a man that wants very deeply to fulfill his duties as a father despite crippingly depression and suicidality. I shed tears. You'd be gay if you didn't. This movie should resonate well with most anons.

It's ok but extremely overrated. The whole movie seems to build up to something that never actually happens. The ending is just a cheap trick that comes out of nowhere with almost zero foreshadowing to give it a layer of drama it lacked until then. Iirc it's the director first movie so in that sense it's relatively impressive, but that's it. The Hispanic mc carried it hard.

I didn't get that feeling at all. The whole thing felt like the main character trying to keep it together in front of his daughter. It's done so well too; it's not melodramatic, it's not preachy or too on-the-nose, it's measured and subtle (except maybe for the rave scenes and the adult girl scenes). The "trick" at the end isn't a twist or something that should've been foreshadowed, it's a reveal that does add an extra layer on top of the story.
