I genuinely think the purpose of this movie was demoralising propaganda, designed to psychologically attack the viewer by linking the concept of male-female adolescent friendship/romance and death. So out of protection the intended targets would forgo making these friendships.

I never understood the point of the movie because my generation had this one be sad over, but it could make sense that you had to be infected with such a bs story as well. I truly does imprint a sense of failure into a young person's brain.

        To extremetize adolescent love.

To anchor the idea that love is real and create a warped illusion around why you personally havent achieved it. To inspire despair and loss and longing, either for the purposes of demoralization (you will never have that again or ever), or potentially inspire (see? love is/was real even though you dont have it)

And on a secondary level, to destroy the idea of love.
To make it seem shallow and saccharine and fake.
To say it only exists here, in your imagination, in a moronic children's movie.

There's nothing special about this one.
It's just the regular periodical occurence of this message (see: ).
It resonates with a specific agegroup that grew up with it in their YA reading list at school.
I think it was a little after me, but I was more devastated by Lord of the Flies at an early age.

I think the untalented author probably set out to do the former. Create a sense of belief in love.
Hollywood in general seems so deliberately evil and malicious, I can't entirely rule out the latter motivation with regards to the movie.

every child will realise that death exists, and they usually do at a much younger age than the movie's traget audience.

Jesus christ conquered death. This is where philosophy and religion become practical tools for better daily living. The ideas presented in this film, that death is absolute and conquers all, are wrong. You are wrong for supporting them. You have a view of reality that is false, you are pushing a wrong falsehood.
This is where you tell me how enlightened you are by your own intelligence with atheism, and that since atheism is the default "real" view, what im saying now is moronic. Go ahead, complete the script youre to play out.

      >this is a sad movie for kids, kids need to be confronted with reality, fairy tales have done this for a long time
      >"I know right? It's a conspiracy! For many years they have demoralised us by showing us that bad things can in fact happen, they are attacking me by not showing me happy things all the time!"

it literally was according to the bible though. Moses never dies cause in the israelitesish canon there's no heaven, so he just keeps living until the israelites invented death and started killing off people. Luckily based christians invented heaven, it was a later patch that fixed the death update israelites added.

      >"I don't know much about God, but I know he's not gonna send that little girl to hell."
That's the thesis of the film itself, it's supposed to inspire doubt in christians as to what the nature of hell is and if God really is the God of the bible. Because how could he let that happen to an (unsaved) innocent girl?

Its one of the biggest themes in storytelling anon. Tons of war stories are about how the soldiers died for nothing. Doctor stories often involve someone just coming in sick and dying, just because that's just something that happens and doctors deal with that shit all the time. There's tons and tons of stories about parents getting over losing a child from an accident or children losing their parents and having to deal with being adopted, etc. There's even family sitcom episodes that's just about the kid's goldfish or hamster dying.

This is all over the place.

And still it hit me out of nowhere because I expected that she would get some illness in the end and we would see him slowly come to terms with it while she puts on a brave face etc. But it happening in 2/3 of the movie off-screen took me by surprise and was really effective.
