stfu you absolute morons. paying customers subsidize your piracy, so that streaming can continue to make money and the content that you pirate. the content doesn't exist out of thin air and ppl don't work for nothing. at least understand the structure of piracy and what makes it an option instead of trying to convince everyone to torrent.

I stopped watching TV in 2011. I'm not subscribed to any streaming service - never have. I only watch physical media. I own around 300 blurays/dvds. Mainly cult films and b-movies. The most recent movie I own is The Raid 2 (2014). Not been to the cinema since Dredd (2012).

        Anonymous

Based. I don't pay streaming either, and the only things I watch on TV anymore are the channels with old sitcoms from the 60s to have on in the background. For kino I either buy physical, pirate, or watch on free platforms like Pluto and Tubi.

          Anonymous

Surprised someone else here watches Pluto and Tubi, it's great for me since I'm too lazy to pirate and most of the stuff I actually want to watch is old movies I haven't seen before. It's like why bother going out of my way to pirate when there's more than enough for me to watch on these services without getting bored.

            Anonymous

Youtube is the place for old movies. Better quality and no commercials.

              Anonymous

              >Better quality.
That varies. Sometimes the only option on YouTube is 360p. When I want to watch something that's on both YouTube and Tubi, I check both for a few minutes to see which one has the better quality. It's usually something you can tell at a glance.
Pluto quality is admittedly pretty bad and I only use it if there's no other option.

                Anonymous

You'll never see something like this on Tubi, though.

                Anonymous

Not on Tubi, but that movie is on TCM all the time. If you're unfamiliar with TCM that channel airs movies uncut, uncensored, without commercials, and in the highest quality possible. It's great.
In this specific movie's case they even include the 10 minute overture at the start which I just checked and that upload doesn't. Not to say the overture is all that vital, but it just shows the degree to which TCM goes the extra mile.
And not to downplay YouTube, but Lawrence of Arabia is not a particularly obscure movie so it's kind of funny to me that you would confidently imply that YouTube is the only place to find it.

I dunno if this is a thing outside America, but we have a library which is basically Blockbuster but free, you can borrow any movie you want once it's out on DVD. The only downside is it's only DVDs, almost never Blurays. The one time I got a Bluray was when I borrowed The Tree of Life and it turned out to be this weird DVD-Bluray combo box.

            Anonymous

I haven't been to my local library in a while because it's depressingly empty but we have movies for loan, just usually odd/foreign/bad ones.

By the way, where on earth do you get DVDs and Blurays for so cheap? Every time I've looked up a Bluray because I like a movie so much I consider owning it, it's like $15.

those prices are from the neat and clean used media store in my tiny shitkicker town, there's also a hoarder lady with a store that sells DVDs for 1 dollar (really good selection but you have to wipe everything down with alcohol after you get home) and if i go up to the Big Shitty there's a bunch of used DVD stores with more normal prices, anywhere from 1-20 bucks depending on how old and good the movie is.

I found Waterworld on Bluray for 30 and Beyond the Black Rainbow on DVD for 1

My library lets me borrow at least a dozen DVDs at a time, more than I can possibly keep up with, I've never hit the upper limit so I don't know what it actually is, renew them endlessly as long as nobody is waiting for them, there's a bunch of shelves filled with all the DVDs but if you go on their website before you visit you can request stuff and they'll order it from a different library if they don't have it, and they leave it at the "reserved" shelf with your name on it, for you to pick up. You don't even have to talk to anyone, you scan and check out everything yourself at a little computer kiosk. There are very few movies that they don't have. As long as it has a DVD release, it's probably there. It's the best thing that nobody knows about.

Literally just move more. Instead of a 10 minute drive, go for a 60 minute walk. Structure your day around a walking route. Do some pullups, work on your pullups until you can do 10 perfect pullups, its a good guage of fitness and it'll take some time to reach a flawless 10. When i was homeless I walked absolutely everywhere, ate like a pig all the time, worked labour intensive jobs and I got absolutely shredded. Golden tan, felt like a sexual tyranasaurus because i wasnt watching porn, bathed in the ocean, and would soap up in the beach showers. I'm not saying you need to be homeless to be fit, but walking a lot, being in the sun, working out, not watching porn. They honestly do help a lot.

Average lifespan was low due to infant mortality, wars due to soldiers being young, and widespread diseases. If you lived to adulthood you had a decent chance to live to your 50's or higher. However skin cancer is real and generations of less and less UV exposure has made us more susceptible to it.

This is what I did, it worked for me, I don't know if it will work for you.

You don't need to be at much of a caloric excess to gain significant weight over time. The number to know is 3500 kcal = 1 lb fat. Just 100 extra calories/day is 10lbs per year. My strategy is to eat normally for most of the year, then spend 1 or 2 months dieting at a daily deficit of ~750 calories.

The key to this is consistency and data. Weigh yourself at the same time every day and write it down. When dieting also record the calories of everything you eat. Then you will know if your plan is working or needs to be adjusted. Eat primarily lean meat and vegetables since those are the most filling for their calories.

      this is how everything is
in order to attract people, think, the wild west or the internet at large, it starts off wide open, unregulated, shilled as the best thing since sliced bread etc.
once people get invested then they start slowly taxing, regulating, and squashing the life out of what made it cool and desirable.

AnBev is a huge conglomerate. Bud Light is part of it. Bud is down catastrophically for a very long time now. There was no bounce back. No blow over. There’s sustained damage to a brand that tried to do something woke to reach a new “not fratty” audience for marginal improvements in sales.

With Bud being one of their strongest brands prior to this it’s absolutely crushing as a result and marketing people have spoken out on it having a “chilling effect”.

This is clearly a direct result of the writers' strike. The people who run streaming services know they will eventually have to pay writers more and that will eat into their profits. And these people aren't just going to accept a profit loss. Expect every streaming service to inevitably implement ads and higher subscription prices.

I don't even mind commercials as long as I don't have to pay out of pocket to stream what I want on-demand. The problem is that Prime is so shit that you have to pay a fee to "rent" almost anything worth watching on top of the monthly subscription you already pay. I really started to loathe streaming when they started pushing original content. I felt like a hacker when i found out i could get international netflix and watch all the cartoons i wanted that i couldnt get in Canada. Netflix and all those smaller free streaming services with ads were the peak of streaming because i could find old movies i loved like Indiana jones, and new movies I never heard of from other countries, or old films I never got the time to see. Now they push original content, and reprioritize where their money goes which means less money for licensing films i wanna see, and more money put into cheaply made modern bullshit

Prime gets streaming rights to a lot of good theater movies like Top Gun Maverick, it's actually comical to compare Prime and Netflix when you see just how rarely Netflix gets the actual good movies because they all go to Prime. It's no wonder Netflix is so heavily reliant on "Netflix Originals" where with Prime that is just one small facet of their content.

      Anonymous

You can skip them but they're intentionally as annoying as possible about it, the cursor defaults to the "watchlist" button so you press the center button trying to skip and accidentally add it to your watch list. You have to press right and move the cursor to the skip button and then hit skip.

Streaming has never been profitable for Amazon. They've been doing it as a way to increase prime memberships, which is very profitable for them, but the streaming in and of itself doesn't make money. The need to raise prices comes from wanting to actually make streaming profitable, and also to offset any extra costs from whatever deals the unions settle on, plus the general devaluation of the dollar through the evil practice of inflation.

        Anonymous

That's exactly why this is bullshit, they rake in so much money from Prime memberships that they can afford to lose money on streaming and just have it be a nice bonus thing they offer to incentivize Prime memberships. But no, they're greedy.

Amazon itself has never been profitable. Yet it's continually grown to be one of the biggest companies around and Bezos is one of the richest men on the planet. Hmmmm. Could it be that accounting israelites just got up and told lies to the public? No way.

You realize that there's probably a billion more people with phones than a decade ago, right? The costs for streaming are just going up and up with new customers. You could call that unsustainable growth, but it's not a simple as just trying to wring more money out of people.

The same way any other form of advertising generates money, the company pays them to show the ad because the venue has value in the form of exposure.

well no shit, do you think Uber is going to not charge Taxi Cab prices once they run them out of business? The point of these "new techs" is to disrupt the current market and then charge as much or more of it once they're entrenched, tales as old as time, set up shop lower prices to outcompete and kill your competition, gouge.

The only reason Ubers was ever better was cheaper prices, potential less wait times, and the early days of Uber, the drivers actually surprisingly gave a shit.

    >Netflix
Cancelled this month anyways, which I only had for 2 months because of a few shows they put out I wanted to watch, probably won't go back to anymore.
    >Max
Cancelled shortly after dropping HBO from the name, and the end of succession (Last good thing HBO will ever release)
    >Hulu
My ace in the hole for easy, replayable shows I love for background noise like IASIP, is raising their base price to 18 dollars next month.
    Cancelled this month as well.
    >AppleTV+
Still cheap, still has shows I want to support like severance, silo and shows I did support like Ted Lasso that are now over. Will probably drop eventually after severance ends, but as a streaming service it's all 100% original content. and just seems to be prestige content to add to the apple brand name.

surely, certainly we're going to see streaming fall off a cliff right? I used to keep these all running together concurrently, but now they're just asking to much while constantly making the product worse.
I truly don't get their end game.

      Anonymous

      >surely, certainly we're going to see streaming fall off a cliff right?
No. Cable is dying, and streaming is where all content is going. Even sports, the only thing cable really has going for it these days, are now moving to streaming. It's still got a few years, but streaming is the future. They're maturing now and figuring out how to make money rather than operating at a loss to grow subscribers. Even if you pay for all the major services, with their recent price increases, it's still cheaper and more premium than cable. And you obviously don't have to pay for all of them, just the ones you want.

Yeah buit if al lthe content theyre selling is trash certainly zoomzooms will just stick to their influencers.

          Anonymous

That's why you're seeing services cut back on the number of shows they're making. They were previously trying to just pump out endless content to get as many subscribers as possible, but now they're focused on fewer shows and profitability.

Also the library of classic films on Max is worth the price alone, even without any new Max content.

      This.

I know that google can see the sites I visit. I just don't want the porn sites clogging my history. Incognito is good because if I'm typing a website when I'm not using incognito it doesn't suddenly suggest a porn site I've been to. So I use it because I, personally, reap the benefits.

        Anonymous

ok, but you'll still end up getting ads related or semi-related to the sites you're visiting on Incognito

so no, you're not reaping any benefits. Google is reaping benefits by selling your browsing history (including incognito history) to 3rd party companies that can do whatever they want with that information (your IP is forever linked to this data that Google collects, btw)

i dont know who pays for prime video on its own, every one pays for prime for the delivery service.

Next month Tubi's getting The Green Mile, Troy, Jackie Brown, Dune (1984), They Live, and Kikujiro, among other things. All a bunch of old movies I'd like to see but haven't yet. Tubi is great for people like me, I can see all these good movies without having to pirate it and adblock works on it if you watch it on your PC so I don't even have to deal with ads. Occasionally they get some recent but not too recent stuff that's kind of interesting too, I see Sorry To Bother You, Guns Akimbo, and Space Jam 2 are coming as well. I haven't heard very good stuff about Space Jam 2, but it's free and I liked the original Space Jam as a kid so I think I'll check it out. I like trying movies that people say bad things about because I prefer to judge them for myself.

I feel like I should probably try and keep Tubi secret because it's really good right now and I'm sure as more people find out about it, they'll start doing things to ruin it. But I'm just impressed by how many good movies are out there for free if you care to look and don't mind that they're old.
