I haven't watched a newly released song or film in about 5 years and I've been actively avoiding anything post-2010 for the last 2. All the best stuff came out in the 70s and 80s anyway. Never had much interest in video games, beyond the old arcade classics.
Anyone else completely checked out of current year media?

same. I wont watch anything made these days.
I have been watching all movies.
Movies from the 50s are amazing.
took you this long?
seen the writing on the wall for a while
It was 2017 for me, after the 2016 election any and all western media became insufferable
>after the 2016 election any and all western media became insufferable
After the 2016 election (in the US?) all media totally and completely independent and unaffected by this became awful overnight?
No that was just the point where more people started to notice that things had already been shit for a while.
I’ve always been autistic and always hated current year. I won’t watch anything past 2007.
why anon, what happened in 2008?
>why anon, what happened in 2008?
2007 was the peak of modern cinema, after that things could only get worse.
Manga is supreme
>Manga is supreme
no its not
manga is shut now, all the best ones came out years ago
bro I've been like this since like 2015 probably. Was never able to afford new games growing up, played nes roms and shit when they used to be everywhere. Only streaming services I still use are netflix and hbo really, everything I actually love I have on dvd or vhs already
>Only streaming services I still use are netflix and hbo really
disgusting normalgay, go back tor redit
Why would I torture myself?
>All the best stuff came out in the 70s and 80s
*50s, 60s and 70s
I do want to get into some golden age kino. I just don't know where to start. Any suggestions?
Two on the left.
what a fucking chad John Huston is
John Huston, John Ford, David Lean
Billy Wilder for sure. One of the most consistently good directors.
my parents watch TCM constantly so I'm really sick of 50s movies and can't stand how film at that point was basically just stage plays in the same few upper class mansion movie sets. There's good films for sure but there's a lot of stuff that's just pure slop and I hate hearing these old fucks talk about hollywood like it wasn't a cess pool even back then. The only people who are into golden age hollywood mythology are fags who like garden gnomeelry and women anyway
>fags who like women
eww gross who likes women they have cooties
Occasionally, they play an offbeat 1960's film that you won't find anywhere else,
but way too much B/W boomerslop.
>Forgetting about the 1930s and 1940s
Yup. I did do both seasons of White Lotus this week though.
Same. Culture has been stagnant since 2009
*SIP* AHHH time to post
>goes on /misc/
*SIP* ahhhhhh, they just don't make em like they used to. All that new stuff you young kids are watchin these days? You don't even know how bad it is, you never seen the classics. You ever seen dirty harry, son? The Blues Brothers? You never saw cobra with sylvester stallone? How about the clan of the white lotus? Those kung fu guys are awesome.
*SIP* *crushes monster can*
WELP, son, you got a big day ahead of you. Gotta mow the lawn, i'm gonna go play some quake - not the remake, the classic one. Put that AC DC record on, will you? Nothing beats classic rock
Sure thing, Dad! Can we get the grill out for dinner tonight, the weather's mighty fine for it!
I used to mock boomers for this till I hit 30. As you get older as a man you get to know what you like and what you don't like and know what you want to spend your time on.
Childhood is thinking this post is cringe
Adulthood is realizing this post is based as fuck
he’s literally me and im only 27
Movies and shows were good until 2019
>I haven't watched a newly released song or film in about 5 years
How do you watch a song?
Yep. I don’t watch any new shows that come out, and most movies as well.
There is so much stuff to see, nearly a hundred years of film making, foreign, domestic, animation, everything.
And you're rarely disappointed because when you're going off a recommendation you got yesterday on a forum, you haven't wasted months anticipating, watching trailers, or reading hype. You just saw someone mention it, checked out its IMDB page, then put it on to see what its like.
if you only see garden gnomeflix and crapmazon is normal to feel that way.
As opposed to? Where is all this amazing modern content I'm missing?
watch sci fi and anime
those are as anti mainstream as it gets
You're joking, right? Anime I'll give you, but sci fi is pozzed as fuck the last couple of years. If you have some that aren't though I'd genuinely like to know what they are.
Fuck transanime. And yeah sci fi is ruined.
Remember BSG 2004? The whole "raping Cylons" subplot would've made the feminists rage like a nuke today.
Are you actually only watching them? Netflix is notoriously dogshit.
I'm not watching anything besides stuff that had already started, I just doubt there's any great stuff I'm missing.
Mubi is 2% 10/10s and 98% 3/10 or belows
Avatar and Top Gun are worth watching
I can recommend Tar. Top Gun Maverick was also great
Ford vs Ferrari
10/10 films cone out every year.
Name 5 that came out from the last 3 years.
I still keep up with the MCU and with every new release they seem to be getting worse in quality (rushed scenes and plots, lackluster character and especially villain introductions, horrible CGI)
No, I’m able to enjoy new things just fine.
1997 baby. There's so much shit from the 80's, 90's, and 00's that I missed out on that I don't need to bother with modern media. I just finished The OC and Homicide: Life on the Streets last year. I could watch stuff that doesn't lecture me about how I need to atone for being a straight white cis male and have a bunch of degenerates shoved in.
I don't trust the opinions of anyone born after 1992.
Don't lump me with other retarded zoomers. I grew up watching Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited, etc. on Cartoon Network as well as enjoying films like No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood.
I used to be liberal but I realized that identity politics, socialism, and other leftist crap doesn't work when I went to college. I learned real quick how the real world isn't some hugbox.
Imagine posting something like this as a reason why your opinion is valid.
Hey I admit I was brainwashed as a kid and got out of that shit.
The whole purpose of entertainment is to give your audience an escape from reality. Companies deliberately tricking, lying, and even insulting their audiences is the last straw. Fuck 'em.
And imagine following it up with this.
>Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited, etc. on Cartoon Network as well as enjoying films like No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood.
I mean that's some good stuff but it doesn't really prove you aren't a basic zoomer, those are all super popular and acclaimed.
I don't like most comic book movies. In fact, I prefer the Blade movies over the MCU (though I did enjoy the 1st Iron Man which was Paramount).
I'm glad we're finally having these companies whine and bitch to people who are walking away from their bullshit. Netflix deserves to die in fire for their idiocy and it still baffles me how the fuck Mindy Kaling has a career and greenlit Velma.
I have never read anything that screamed "I'm a teenager who thinks I'm much smarter than I really am" more than these posts.
Same senpai. I was born in 1991 and I've never met anyone younger than me who had anything interesting to say about anything.
>I've never met anyone younger than me who had anything interesting to say about anything.
This but anyone older or younger. What a stupid fucking post this is. Interesting is both vague and subjective so this a completely meaningless statement written by an NPC. Someone reply to this post after the hide because you're all two digit iq shits who don't know how a Cinemaphile X hide works.
I can't believe someone on Cinemaphile is trying to say others aren't interesting. I do nothing but filter threads full of you all day every day because nothing anyone writes is worth reading. Fucking zero self-awareness sub-humans is what you all are. I'm off to filter 10 threads before refreshing and filtering more. That's how interesting this place is.
>actually MY generation is the big smarter than YOUR generation because OUR zogslop was better than YOUR zogslop
Fucking gay lmao
Enjoy your moron culture retard.
2014-2016 is the cuttoff for me. Unless the movie is Chinese.
You sadly run out of content sooner or later.
Lol. Do you have any idea how many films there are? Hollywood alone has been producing 300+ films a year since the 30s.
10-20 of which are worth watching at most.
Way more worth watching than your country. Don't get mad.
Bullshit. Even now there are still a dozen or so and the industry's at the most dire its ever been.
i've watched about 6 movies made post 2018 and no tv shows.
nah i'm just very selective, and it's way easier to find the classics and hidden gems of yesteryear than it is to sift through every new release to find something good.
How are there so many retards with arbitrary cutoffs for what they watch
It's not that arbitrary though. Majority of people seem to agree that the late 2000s to the mid 2010s is when things started to get shitty and continued to up until today. For me anyone who pretends that media post trump didn't take a massive shift in quality for the worse is stupid or lying.
go watch Broker (2022)
I thought it was kinda disappointing. Too contrived and sentimental. And I liked Still Walking and Shoplifters.
2010 is absolutely the cut off year
Let’s keep joggers away from Ariel
Sounds stupid as fuck and sad anon.
It is. It's like living as an Amish, missing out for no reason.
Ohno hell miss out on all the brilliant shows and movies from the last ten years such as.....
Game of Thrones
Went to shit after the red wedding
I started typing out a bunch of things from 2022, I got to a list of 5 and then deleted it. It's honestly not my fucking problem if you miss out.
Kek sounds more like you tried and then realized that your first five were actually shit.
I've seen 55 films released in 2022 and have another 20+ to go that are more interesting than 90% of what I've watched.
I'm not an American.
Holy fuck, anon name some of them of they're so good.
Why? Again, it's not my problem
Why not? You came to the thread, you told op he's wrong, and you refuse to elaborate. If the movies you've seen are so great you should be happy to recommend them
>75 movies were made in 2022 that are better than 90% of everything made before 2022
Do shitposters even read the shit they post before posting it?
Are you retarded?
>I've seen 55 movies from 2022
>I have 20+ movies from 2022 still to watch
>The 20+ movies from 2022 look more interesting than 90% of the 2022 movies I've already seen
Do you not function unless I type 2022 every 8th word
Imagine thinking there were 75 movies worth watching at all in 2022 lmao.
I didn't say there's 75 worth watching, I'd say half of that was irredeemable shit, but that's the same for every year.
He isn't going to watch them. You aren't.
Anon how do you know this? I watch older media more than newer stuff, but I do believe there is a small portion of good media released every year. Sounds like you're an insecure moron. Recommend something good or fuck off.
Ok, I simply don't care if you watch them. You're the one throwing a shitfit baby tantrum claiming you don't watch modern films
And you're the gay coming to this thread to make an argument on the behalf modern stuff. I just told you I watch a small percentage of new things and am open to checking modern things out. Responding to your post and asking to back up your claims is hardly a shit fit. Name some kino or fuck off.
There has never been a year in cinema history where there were 75 movies worth watching. That's more than a movie a week. Are your standards really that low? I can't imagine the shit you must have dug through.
>There has never been a year in cinema history where there were 75 movies worth watching.
What a sad thing to say, why are you even on this board if you don't like movies?
Less sad than being willing to suck the shit out of anything hollywood pushes out of its rotting diseased sphincter.
I live in the UK so literally haven't seen a single Hollywood movie from 22. Fabelmans releases sometime this month here. Avatar released in December but I haven't seen it. I literally couldn't even tell you what other blockbusters came out last year or if they've released here yet. Perhaps you need to watch European films like the rest of the world. Not that you'd know that because you don't watch anything released after x date, just Forrest Gump on VHS on repeat I guess.
You couldn't even name one you retard lmao
I’ve been making threads about old movies, westerns, and samurai films for months.
>I haven't watched a newly released song or film in about 5 years and I've been actively avoiding anything post-2010 for the last 2
yep me too anon.
A good OLED TV and 2nd hand DVDs have kept me sane.
If I watch something made now it's seconds before a bossy woman or smart black man turn up and ruin it. I gave up. Fuk em.
Imagine spending the money on a good OLED tv and still using DvD's. Holy shit get on the Bluray train already.
Well i'm mostly a horror movie guy so whenever something new is released i try to keep up with it and see if it's good i.e The terror tv show, the void, the vvitch
But all other genres and entertainment have become rather shittier and uninspired.
Same here, thought it was just because I'm getting old.
Thank god for Youtube. I saw all of Sharpe thanks to /misc/ threads about this. Also saw all of Hornblower too.
I make a few exceptions for stuff I know I'm gonna like.
the only 2022 film i watched was ambulance by based bay and even that one had the glowmoron and his homosex partner on a couples therapy that went on for few minutes before the emergency call. they also unironically used the ok boomer line. i don't watch new content
I checked out between 2013-2021 but 2022 and 2023 has been amazing for movies. I think I've seen more movies between 2022-2023 than I have between 2013-2021.
/misc/ why didn't you tell me about this movie?
*pozzed score omitted until consideration bait eaten*
you can just leave /misc/ and stop calling anons who discuss recent releases shills you know
Everythings been so low effort and cheap for the past like 5 years. Just this steady decline of optimism and creativity. Diversity quotas and pandering to the insane. They give up their money easy if they think you're on their side.
Movies I've actually liked past 2006
>There Will Be Blood
>Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
>Funny Games (US)
i have a similar list:
> no country
> there will be blood
> phantom thread
> licorice pizza
> the master
> ruby sparks
> the wolf of wall street
i'm sure i'm forgetting something
Oh I forgot Wolf, haven't seen Phantom yet but it's on my list.
Master and Commander and Apocalypto are 2 more I forgot
At this point, I watch almost exclusively old westerns
The only movie from the last 5 years I actually bothered to see was The Lighthouse, which I liked. Everything else looked gay, antiwhite, capeshit, or some kind of reboot/rehash.
In terms of tv I’ll probably watch the new season of Righteous Gemstones this year, that’s about it
Every time I've taken a chance on something new I've been disappointed. Dark, Barbarian ect, tv always claims it's the exception and it never is. I don't believe the west is capable of making anything truly great any longer. Top Gun was the last thing I saw that was mildly interesting and that was only because of the raw thrill of real fighter planes the story and acting aside from cruise was still garbage.
Every now and then my BF makes me check out a new show, he even made me watch Rick and Morty against my will, but aside from what he has me watch I don't feel like I've consumed really any media since like... 2013?
People are gonna give you shit anon and say that you're missing out on good stuff, but disregard that shit. I watch mostly older stuff too and just wait for good word of mouth to check out the 3-5% of entertainment that isn't pozzed garbage.
>The Stranger (2022)
>The Chosen tv show
Don't know your tastes, but these are two newer things I enjoyed a lot.
Lord of the Rings was unironically the last dying gasp of western media. There has never been anything after it made with such love and effort.
All media. No one gives a shit about "eastern" media.
Definitely. Right now I'm watching 70s/80s kung fu movie, before that it was classic Westerns. Fuck just about anything from the last 10 years, although there are exceptions. I no longer look forward to new releases I look forward to new HD scans or remasters of old movies
No, you’re literally the only person. This has never happened to anyone else. Its also everything that sucks now.
Pretty much. It's funny, I once used to greatly dislike nineties media but as it got more distant I started being able to appreciate it for what it was, then the same happened to some 2000's stuff, but the shitshow that cinema has been since the 2010's is something I'll never warm up to.
almost every time i give something new a chance i regret it
Yes. Do not consume gnomish cultural Marxist media poison.
We still have Robert Eggers, and I really liked Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but yeah, haven't been all that interested in new movies the past decade or so. I'm mostly just re-buying and re-watching all the classics in 4K.
I thought severance was decent.
Yeah, reminds me of that Star Trek TOS episode where the planet is doomed and the population escapes into its own past.
Fortunately we are way past the point where a human being could physically watch every movie ever made. I worked it out once and don't remember the exact date, but somewhere like 1970 not counting foreign films or TV shows, and watching 24/7. Probably before that, I really don't recall. It's not all top tier cinema, but at this point you're basically like a mosquito sitting on an Olympic-size swimming pool full of blood wondering if you'll ever run out and starve. You wont.
But you can starve the gays making CURRENT YEAR shit if you avoid paying them for the old stuff.
I do remember working it out was complicated by when you were born. So like someone born in 1900 could have watched every film up to 1970 or something like that before they fell behind. I was trying to work it out for my Dad because he's a big movie buff, so being born in the 40's he wouldn't have even gotten that far, since it's a exponential growth.
Basically if you're a Zoomie, you're so far behind the eight ball, you basically have what is effectively an infinite amount of backlog you could never get through even if you tried. The good news is that's probably still true if you narrowed it down by rating.
I mean I've read a lot of classic books too like 'Moby Dick', (and invariably found there are damn good reasons they are considered classics), but I sure as fuck don't have enough lifetimes to read them all.
>in about 5 years
I liked The death of Stalin
While i do understand what you mean i believe you are not entirely correct. Sure enough contemporary mainstream media seems to be going through a rough patch but if you move away of all those big IPs targeted to the lost generation you are sure to find that good movies and shows and music are still being made.
It`s a good age for independent film makers. Equipment capable of delivering professional results (in the hands of talented and knowledgeable individuals) is cheaper than ever before. There is an unprecedented amount of cheap and open source software too so editing and even visual effects and CGI are not exclusively for Hollywood anymore and there are a number of ways of publishing audio visual work that allows cinematographers to reach out to people wanting alternative movies. And i am not talking about "content" or "film student" tier stuff, sure, there are a lot of those but i mean for example old directors that don`t get the big budgets anymore like Verhoeven or Polanski just to mention that some of those old directors that are still somewhat active. Just because Hollywood has forsake authors does not mean they are gone.
i watch random movies OTA on Movies! TV, Grit, and sometimes Comet
Glad I’m not alone. I think the last time I saw a movie in theaters of my own free will it was in 2019 or 2020. All these new Netflix, Amazon, Hulu shows they make are all kinda the same. Digging up the corpse of some old beloved piece of media and parading it around like a marionette. They sanitize the corpse of anything they don’t approve of. All of these shows and movies feel less like works of art and entertainment and more like the product of a corporate marketing board trying to get the largest piece of the pie chart. Boomers clearly had some shit figured out. I’ll shamefully admit that, by and large, I can’t get into black and white films. Though I very much enjoyed Metropolis.
>ITT we pretend every year the majority of content wasn't 3/10 or worse because we were born in 1997 and don't have first hand experience of anything
Then logically we’d end up with tastes reflective of someone who likes new stuff. Let’s assume that 3/10 is the average every year. And it goes without saying that more and more movies are being produced every year because the cost of making them goes down. So…while 3/10 would be the average every year, you’d have a larger pool of movies with more high-scorers as time goes on. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The pool is higher. You just don’t watch movies outside of your little bubble
That’s pretty presumptuous, although I guess taste in movies is subjective. I’d also add that an ungodly amount of movies today seem to appeal to nostalgia.
I can catch random forgotten old black and white movies on TCM and be entertained. Not classics, not films that are culturally significant or iconic, just any old movie from the 1930s is better than 99% of Hollywood films made today
I concur. Also, much as awards can be bullshit, even back then, it's seems less so the further you go back, or maybe even award-bait simply had merit in the old days.
But a good example of a film that won a tonne of awards that actually deserved them is Amadeus. Sometimes it works in reverse where the awardfags have to rush to begrudgingly praise something with actual merit that people like, lest they look like total morons.
>I watch closely curated movies from a specific TV channel dedicated to showing the best classic movies
>This somehow proves dime a dozen forgettable and today considered obscure movies from the 30s are always better than new movies today
Yeah, sure. Maybe you should try watching movies that have subtitles, Jr.
Try 87 you zoom zoom.
start posting in /film/ threads
A couple of months ago I tried to go to and was saddened to find out it no longer exists after having not posted there for 10 years.
>hard-nosed cop beats surface level disposable criminals
>crime is solved forever lol
why not just accept crime will exist as it has done forever and its really not worth even fighting against?? unless dirty harry has a specific plan to prevent tropical trees from growing cocoa leaves
>crime will exist as it has done forever and its really not worth even fighting against
Mostly. I tried watching the new Game of Thrones show until I got to the blackwashing + miscegenation part and stormed out of the room. Didn't even bother checking on Witcher, Wheel of Time, or the LOTR show. Tried one episode of Star Trek Discovery and it was miserable.
The reality is that whatever good combination of production and talent used to exist is just not there anymore. It's angry activists cargo culting their way to a Blackrock fortune. Why watch any of this?
>Wheel of Time
If only you knew how bad things really are...
dirty harry, pierce brosnan and taking of pelum 123 are proto-woke. we should have freed the nipple rather than unleash the hysteric drama mindset on the working class.
Serious question on the matter, did regulations regarding nudity change at any point? It seems like starting around the 2000s nudity became a lot less common in movies.
This thread is exactly why this board is fucking garbage now
The opinions or realizations?
What is there to look forward to? The capeshit with it’s decrease in quality? The heavily politicized television shows? The boring CGI fests?
The only recent television show I was interested in was Better Call Saul. Look at the various popular topics here. Euphoria is just teenage drama and chud propaganda. We get FOTM movie threads which eventually fizzle out. Some (not-capeshit) movies are decent but most are forgettable. Avatar 2. Top Gun 2. Nope. They quickly become forgotten and have little rewatchability.
Figures. Not enough memes and quips for you zoom zoom?
It's very rare I watch anything new. The odd instance when I do, as soon as any current political meme comes up I immediately turn it off.
This and I would successfully be doing the same for politics if /misc/ wasn't shoving it down my throat.
The only shit I've seen in the last 5-6 years in the theatre:
the last 2 Mission Impossible
that's about it, everything has been absolute trash or I haven't been interested
I haven't gone out of my way but I've been in the car with my sister(s) who played some current songs so technically I have heard current songs
Other than Mel Gibson I don't think I've sat down and actually watched any current movies made post 2010..I'm sure I've seen bits and pieces of some when with friends/family but I didn't pay attention
Generally, but it's because a lot of it just isn't interesting. Reboots, remakes, sequels, prequels. Yay, Magnum PI... reboot. Quantum Leap... reboot. That X Show... reboot. etc. etc.
I'll stick with watching Murder, She Wrote and Columbo re-runs.
