Anyone Else Started A Movie Collection?

I’m done with all these streaming services. I started a collection about two months ago. Just buying some of my faves or what I consider an 8/10 and above, I opt for 4K versions if available. Sounds amazing on my 7.1.2 set up.

What do people think of my collection? Anything missing?

>inb4 Drive 4K, that’s on its way.

Nah I haven’t, I don’t mind looking if their hidden gems but if it’s some weird torture fetish in grungy styles then I ain’t into that stuff lol

it sucks, but you actually have to research whether or not they've been fricked with in some way
for example, 4K Jaws looks worse than standard Bluray Jaws; they desaturated the colors and fricked with the levels to bring down the highlights, giving the image a very 'flat' feel by comparison

Yeah I normally check avforums as I know some 4Ks are just a 2K upscale so at that point, if it’s just a drama or something it’s not worth it

Not much that is absolute shit. I more meant a lot of meh films. Just watch them all and you'll find them and weed them out. I actually didn't catch The Thing and ET. If you haven't seen them sit down and watch those first they're both solid films.

Also for God's sake get the og True Grit if you're gonna own the remake.

I vaguely remember watching it on release and enjoying it, maybe upon a rewatch it’s not so good.

Understandable. If The Bounty Hunter gets you puss go ahead and keep it for now, but if I may humbly suggest better from coms:
                >Grease(78)
                >Mean Girls(2004)
                >The Matchmaker(97)

                >50 First Dates(2004)
                >Knocked Up(2007) (only good Seth Rogan movie)
                >Groundhog Day(93)
                >Clueless(95)
                >The Hottie and the Nottie(2008)
                >Management(2008) (much better Jennifer Anniston flick)

I used to have blu rays, I mean I still do but I stopped well over a decade ago. I don't want to haul around a bunch of shit the rest of my life, went full digital and grow my library every month with new movies. When I run low on space I just get 2 new HDDs so I can have storage and a backup.

it's hard to say which was the original. people complained about the HD version of Scooby-Doo Meets the Boo Brothers until someone pointed out that Ted Turner had fricked with the one everyone thought was the original

it's not hard at all, you can compare to VHS or the various DVD editions, all of which look much closer to the standard bluray than to the 4K one. For example, here's the 30th anniversary DVD—the standard bluray is very similar, the big changes being that on the bluray the midtones are brought up in lightness a bit for clarity, the edges are cropped a bit to remove vertical lines, and the vignetting is fixed.

      >bring down the highlights
These screenshots are irrelevant for brightness comparison because 4K HDR can go up to 4000nits while jpg/png are limited to SDR brightness (100nits?) same as blu-ray discs.

I have the Jaws 4K. The screenshot are a bad comparison because the HDR has been converted to SDR and the benefits of 4K have been degraded by downscaling.

I'd say the 4K is more true to life in colour. The DVD and bluray are more vibrant which will look better to some people. Depends on personal preference.

My dad said the 4K looks how he remembers seeing it in cinema.

I don't really have one, it's just a scattering of stuff from childhood, the CRT is more for old shows. With the best will in the world 405-line recordings are never going to look great blown up onto a 65" screen.
