But I actually will get back to it, sometime this week, maybe

      >finally gets a gf and tastes real happiness for the first time
      >suddenly gets bumped, realize what real depression feels like
      >can't use depression as a way to make comics anymore
But then again haven't read the alien comic so i dunno how depressing that is

Ronnie never had a girlfriend, he just talked to some pinay bawd online for a mouth or so, I'm not even sure if they ever met.

From Earth in Peace. Long form science fiction comedy where an alien makes first contact with humans, only to realize that humans have (apparently) genetically engineered themselves to be children forever? It's weird, the writing is fairly dry, and it's not actually all that funny. And Ronnie clearly doesn't have the artistic chops to actually sell anything that isn't a quick gag comic.

I wish the comic had ended here with the beginning of the Oblivion Crisis and the destruction of Kvatch. It'd have been tragic and heart-wrenching, but it'd have been a lot more cathartic than the limbo the comic is in now.

I didn't get that impression at all. It always sounded more to me like it was the other way around: He had a depressive episode and she dumped him because she didn't want to put up with it.

I’m still alive, I swear, things just keep coming up. I definitely have more of an incentive to continue than Ronnie does, since the comic is my job while Ronnie is the CEO of some company involving crabs and matchsticks.

I admit though, the attitude of “I wish the author at least gave it some closure” always kind of confused me? If it’s a quick ending the author creates for the sake of having an ending, it doesn’t seem that much different from just a fan continuation. There are definitely half-finished works that I want to see continue, but it’s because I want to see where they were going, not just for the closure of there being an ending.

While I have no intention of giving up, I feel like it’s not /contentious/ to say that shows and stuff that never get a proper ending are better than ones that try to fit three seasons worth of material into a final episode because their budget got cut? Not naming any names.

      Anonymous

I know, roght? Like, Game of Thrones had 5 great seasons and stopped. We should all appreciate what we had instead of wishing they kept going and got the dumbest guy in the room to make up an ending just to give it closure. That would have been horrendous.

      >If it’s a quick ending the author creates for the sake of having an ending, it doesn’t seem that much different from just a fan continuation.

Typically fan continuations are aversive to that kind of ending. What fan continuation wants to end the series aruptly or quickly?

        Kazerad

        >Typically fan continuations are aversive to that kind of ending. What fan continuation wants to end the series aruptly or quickly?

They wouldn't, fans know better. What I more meant is that I think the canonicity should be considered comparable. The ideal ending is of course the original creator continuing it the way they planned, but an ending forced by external circumstances (budget constraints, managerial meddling, life changes) is basically no different from fanfiction - other than likely being worse.

Like I said, I'm not giving up or anything, but I don't understand why someone would want one a rushed "just to give it closure/because it was mandated" ending from the original creator over regular fanfiction.

I'd have been fired and starved to death if I took as much time off from my job as you do.

        >I'd have been fired and starved to death if I took as much time off from my job as you do.
