Every time in the entertainment industry when you have a product have an awful development with an even worse box office when that product is at the true absolute peak, it signals the societal death of a genre where people want something new knowing there is nowhere else to go with that mainstream genre. The Superhero genre had 7+ massive bombs in one year, now with Aquaman too.
It's safe to say, the Superhero genre is dying as a whole and will return to being a niche for a while.

Brie Larson is a Sacramento Kings fan and she's a trained entertainer who can sing and dance as well as fight. She would really shine if she got a role on Star Trek or some other sci-fi role that's not as constraining as MCU roles.

The genre is not dying, the 2 big franchises are in a rebuilding phase because they already had their big event movies that ended their 2 major story lines.
AKA dying because they built their next phase on a sexual predator who they now need to distance themselves from.
Marvel has plenty of contingency plans. They have a back catalog of comic stories spanning 80 years and the great thing about comics is they already have story boards and character designs.
13 of the top 25 movies this year are Super Hero type movies. The one major exception was Openheimer which benefited from a director who gained most of his fame as a Super Hero movie director and it had RDJ of Iron Man fame.
the length of the Flash movie made the story better. The CGI was not very real looking`, but didn't bother me. I enjoyed the Kevin Smith moments and seeing Michael Keaton and seeing Super Girl.
The Marvels was an extremely short movie. It was filled with comedy, action, a musical scene, and more comedy and action while the last scenes and end credits built towards a tie in to another sequel or another MCU movie. They both are comic book movies so that's the nature of these things, they're created to make you want to see the next episode.

tbh this is the truth. Audiences are absolutely tired of capeshit, especially playing $20 in the theatre (big sfx sequences have done it all before). But it really is fun and enjoyable, and I predict it will be a huge streaming hit.
